Normally my bastard cut needle file is used for marking out ready for the next diameter one.

Today I set about a triple helix open twist which is going to all be done with the needle file.

It came without a handle so I made a Birds Eye Maple one.

Collaboration coming up with a well known turner at some point and although I've turned this species I've never taken a file to it.
Practice piece was needed to see how this ancient wood copes.
Ukrainian Bog Oak, Ali accent and Blackwood MP.
It's soft and requires a more gentle touch.

Apologies to those people waiting on these stems but I'll maybe never again get the chance to capture four of them all together.

I've done a few twin helix open twists but this triple one is a first. There's a bit of flex but not enough to worry about especially when the glass condenser is fitted.

Hopefully this little fella won't inherit his Dad's feet. Because of the lighting can't clearly see his big toe, right foot. But, I'm a little worried for him with that short toenail. Looks familiar.

Had a busy few days getting these finished, not my most favourite of pieces to put together but worth it in the end.
As I've worked on them an idea has came to mind which will, hopefully, mean I can relax a bit while making them. The last one was made a while ago I just didn't like the original glass colour so it's got a new tube fitted.

These kind of stems always remember me on a celtic knot like this - badly - worked on a walking stick.

Perhaps that design is also worth a try?

Had an incredibly busy end to the week and all for the wrong reasons.
Took my mind off it all by putting this trial piece together.
Scottish Yew and Elm Tubox.
Needs a better cable fitting before final assembly.
Had to test it for function and ergonomics of course.

Followed by some Crockett Family Farms Banana Split shatter on cotton.

Finished Tubox, Scottish Yew and Elm.

The triple helix open twist had another visit from the file, I exposed more of the glass and took the twist further along the body.

Also had these cigar tubes turn up, I can cut them down or add extra length to them as I please.
As and when time and funds become available I will be getting a revised drawing of the coupling together for the CNC shop.

This round of orders is coming to an end and while I finish up I'm getting a couple of other things done and working out how to proceed with PPWS.

I'll be posting an explanation as to how I'm going to approach future orders soon.
No idea if it'll work but nothing ventured.

All I know is that after two and a bit years I've gotten busier with stuff outside of the vape world, some of which came to a head over the last week or so.

As for the vape world, well it's busy and a few new avenues have opened up which I'm more than happy to have a bimble down as I build up skills, experience and contacts.

The Tubox got sent out today so it'll be good to hear some feedback when it's landed.
For now here's a bit of Burrwood porn

This is a piece of the Buckeye @Ed's TnT sent over.
Some woods, Bocote being one, don't need a coat of wax to look as they will when finished.
Others do

Not sure on how the base will be finished yet but that's half the fun.
