Phattpiggies Wood Shed

@SloJimFizz I keep coming back to your picture and zooming in and out. The Koa I got looks fine against you Uke.
Thank you for posting it, puts things into context for me.

To everyone who has any wood stem treat them with respect.

Regular wax to keep the wood conditioned, no excuses you all get a pot of wax from me.

Woods also change colour when exposed to direct sunlight.

As an example my Padauk stems started out bright red with orange streaks over time they have changed to a rich deep burgundy colour.
Some woods eventually will turn brown.

Keep them away from heat sources the wood will shrink.

Also be careful if you live in the sweatier regions of the world.
I know @M0J0 has said wood can go mouldy over on Peurto Rico.

Woods will change shape and temperature and humidiy play their parts.

I've seen Boveda packs used to keep string instruments in good condition.
I'll look into it a bit more.

I've repaired a stem recently that was fine at mine but split after being sent out and used.
The picture I was sent looked bad.
By the time it arrived back for repair the crack had closed up.

It turns out the stem had been kept in a cupboard next to an oven and had shrank and cracked.
The 3 days out and about with the postal system allowed it to stabilise again and return to shape.
It was a wood I used in the beginning so I was never sure if it would work.

Lesson learned and as it was in the UK so I could do the repair. It now has Blackwood ends.
The MP was fine but it got replaced at the same time.

It's been bitter here today so the Lava Explosion 14mm pieces got a polish while the shed warmed thru.
One of them is spoken for
This stem started out looking like this and I had other ideas for it which went in the bin when I saw how good the grain looked.
I managed to get it all to line back up and flow thru the stem after it was cut.

It is a sad day. I seem to have lost one of my first Phattpiggie stems; a beautiful beloved Blackwood Square. I'm crushed.

At first I thought that I had misplaced it, but I just can't find it anywhere.

I'm pretty sure the dratted cat in my avatar took it. He's stolen it before and I eventually found it in his basket of toys. He's had an obsession with it for some time. He ignores my other stems, but he loves that Blackwood. Only that Blackwood. He's not interested in my Dynavap Blackwood body at all, just my Phattpiggie Square. Anytime I've put it down, he would jump up, push off the edge of the table and play with it until I retrieved it.

I began keeping in a burl box when not in use, but I got lazy and left it out. Now it's gone.

I've checked all his hiding places, his basket of toys, the favorite spot in the basement where he discards bits of dead mice, frogs and other unidentifiable creatures. I've looked under the human beds and the cat beds. No Blackwood stem nowhere, nada. I checked his food dish, under the counters, under rugs. Nothing but crumbs and hair fluff. Could this crime be his way of bringing my lack of housekeeping skills to my attention?

I feel like this has placed a wedge between us. Sure, he still cuddles up with me and bares his tummy for rubs. He purrs and looks longingly with feigned innocence into my eyes. But I know and he knows he took it. Is this the beginning of a trend? Will other stems mysteriously disappear? If he brings it back all will be forgiven. Just bring it back.... dammit! I LOVE that stem.

Bummer, can't you offer up some some top shelf catnip "reward" for return of your treasured Blackwood Square? ;)

Well, I tried taliking to him, but he's not budging. Maybe I'll try the old catnip I have stashed in the cupboard. Stuff it in my Blackwood Twist Vapcap and blow vapor at him. Maybe that will loosen up his resolve.

So sorry to hear, @Squiby! I'll stay optimistic for you that it will magically reappear.

I have to tell you that I got a pp burl square because of your Blackwood.

Fingers crossed for you!

@Squiby our cat is 18, she has feline dementia and arthritic shoulders for which she takes opioids so she's not into stealing and hiding stuff. Even if she did she would have no idea what she had taken or where it had been stashed.

All these pieces are for sale.

thehedonistclub.co.uk will have the stems that match some of these vongs on their site on Thursday.

Thank you @stardustsailor come the New Year we will have to work out something together.
Your turning out some lovely stuff and all on your modded pillar drill, can't wait until you get that lathe.

Gotta love the Postman, look what mine dropped off for me.
Red coral, blue and orange magnesite all destined to be pulverised and used for inlay work.
There should be a couple of happy folk out there seeing these.

I just love how you keep raising the bar and your work just keeps evolving. Each piece more stunning than the last, until you look back and realize that they are all stunning.

You make it very difficult for your fans, you know. But we love it!

The creatures we live with are as individual and unique as we are. My other cat, Pickles, is a charming and affectionate stray that came to live with us almost two years ago. My living room is open to the second story. Whenever I am sitting downstairs with Caleb, the Bengal on my lap, Pickles runs upstairs, empties the toy basket and proceeds to push the toys onto my head one after the other as he pokes his head through the railings to peer at his progress.

My last dog Max, a Chow Chow lived a couple months short of 20 years. It's hard to watch them grow old. All we can do is to love them and keep them comfortable in their old age.

@stardustsailor That abalone looks stunning it's something I've been looking to try.

Currently looking into buying a piece of equipment that will help with any future inlay work I do.

Unfortunately insulation is more important and for the wrong reasons.

I'd far rather be putting it up to keep the hear out.

@Summer I had to do a double take when I saw they had all sold.

I'd hinted a few times what I was up to and before they were properly finished one of THC's customers reserved 2, THC had one and Ganjagorgon on IG took the Bocote.
11 went to 7 very quickly, it'll be interesting to see how the other stems and these vongs sell.

It's amazing what you can do on your phone these days.
The Cobaltium and Lava was a play with shape and not for sale.
All the others are between 72-75mm, 2.8-2.95". They do not fit the DV stashes.

Fiddleback Catalpa, Figured Walnut, Lacewood, Rippled Ash, Bog Oak, Tiger Rengas, Sumac(sold), Hawaiian Koa and Zebrano.
