Discontinued Pax 2

I have owned a crafty for 5 months, and just got the pax 2 yesterday. After one night of using both I prefer my crafty right now. I think there is a bit of a trick to getting consistent hits from the pax 2. Not sure if its how i'm packing it, drawing on it, or something else. I need to spend more time experimenting like I already have with the crafty to really form my opinion with any conclusions. I've gotten a mixture of great results mixed with okay results on the PAX 2 so far.

I found after taking a few draws then stirring the bowl that after I pack it back down that there is much more of a draw resistance...so maybe just a regular grind will work best...guess il just go test a different way!

Yeah, I've found that the medium grind produces a large amount of vapor.

I agree with Vape critics video for the most part, though he did seem a little off in the video, maybe he was just having a bad day...its a great little device that they did upgrade, but I wouldn't be jumping out the window to upgrade from the p1 at all. I am happy with my purchase though, because I lost my pax in December and this fills that void. If I still had my pax1...no need to upgrade right away. I didn't find cleaning the pax 1 a hassle, and the pax 2 is definitely easier to clean so that may factor in for some people

I'd second that... Pax 2 is great.... Pax 1 is great....Is Pax 2 better...yes How much better... I'd say Vape Critic score was pretty accurate... 91/100 (pax 1 is 88/100)

If you have a PAX 1.... stick with it. If you want a Pax...get the Pax 2

I found that odd also. I didn't even find his review that negative. He gives it a 91/100 and it's #7 of 33 on his website, so I'm not sure how people are finding that lukewarm.

I share your opinion of his reviews. While I don't always agree with his conclusions and recommendations, he usually does a thorough job and his criticisms are honest if not always accurate in my opinion.

Honestly, it's stunning how good they are at this when they get their hands on a high demand product. We aspire to be that good here at PAX Labs. It turns out, we are not.

While VW was cranking, we had IT issues and vendor issues all due to the demand being WAY higher than we expected. Emails didn't go out. A few hundred units shipped late. Everyone here was losing their shit, largely because we knew we let down the very enthusiasts we worked so hard to build the PAX 2 for. Epic Fail. Alas.

So now all orders are headed out the door, and we're brainstorming a way to bonus back the folks who had to wait an extra day. It's definitely not the way we wanted this to go, so our apologies.

Perhaps a bit too much behind the curtain for you there, but that's how it went down. Next time, we will be much better. Your PAX 2 should be in hand soon, and we thank you for your patience.

It looks like not all the Pax 2 units are the same in terms of hidden features. Some units don't have Simon, but play Funky Town when shaken vertically.

I would love if a few Pax 2 owners could chime in and let me know what they're seeing when they spin theirs.

I predict that over the next couple of weeks or so we will figure out exactly how the Pax 2 likes to be treated and our already positive thoughts/experiences/reviews will be even better than they are now, perhaps substantially so. Remember with the Pax 1 we figured out the best grind, how to pack the oven, how hard to draw, the screen trick, etc., etc.

I love my PAX 1 and really want the PAX 2. I'll be closely watching other's experiences and probably pull the trigger in the near future, if I can wait that long! lol

I still don't have a tracking number myself, but I was impressed that you guys sent out a mail yesterday alerting us to the tracking number delays. That was a nice touch.

Cool. Not the biggest deal. Maybe I'll just buy from another source for the next Launch. Still like pax products. But I would like to have at least shipping info. It is still processing. A bonus could be faster shipping. That would make me happy

Proud owner of the a new black pax 2. I really like it over my first pax. The only thing that I preferred on my first pax was the ability to turn it off by simply pressing down on the mouth peace until closed. That would make the unit shut off. With my pax 2, and again, I feel it is slightly better the the 1, I still cant fine a way to shut it off manually. Any ideas guys? at this point im just using it and setting it down but takes a min or two to turn off.

Im glad to see the reply from scott. It shows that he understands how customers can be effected by a 1 day wait or seeing a 3rd party vendor filling orders prior to the source. He realizes how business works. You take care of your customers and business grows. Its good to see people who understand and can remedy issues that arise instead of trying to hide under a carpet or silence those who are against the grain. I look forward to my tracking number, my pax 2 and the "bonus", for us having to wait.

As someone new to portable vaporizers, the Pax 2 was easily the obvious option for me. Hugely, it is hands down the most attractive and I think most discrete as a result. As long as it works reasonably well, and I'm sure it works great, I'm going to be really happy with.

It looks like the official vaporization object circa 2017.

This is poor timing given the release yesterday, but last night I tried using a really fine grind for the first time. I used my normal load (.07 g) and didn't pack it. The result was disappointing. Apparently grinding that fine does need some kind of spacer or a full load. Once I realized what was happening,I got it producing well enough by hitting the Pax 2 inverted, so that the load was falling down onto the oven floor. Also, when I popped the screen out, I found as much debris under it after a single load of fine grind as I had after several loads of medium grind. I didn't find any trace of it on the mouthpiece end though. Since a medium grind works well for me, I see no reason to grind that fine, but I'm sure we'll get a lot more feedback on this point over the next few days.

When I used a fine grind in the original Pax I didn't have this issue, and I think the difference is the oven lid. In the original, it's metal and it gets quite hot. The Pax 2 lid doesn't heat up nearly as much and I don't believe it contributes much to making vapour, it at all. Incidentally, I need to clarify something. When I say the new lid can be handled immediately after a long session at high temps, I don't mean you can hold on to it for long. You can take it off and touch it but it's still hot enough that holding it gets uncomfortable.

That is helpful to know... I solo a lot, and with Pax 1 (medium heat) I typically do a firmly packed fine grind of a half-filled oven (after packing!) using a screen spacer. I'll go 3 or 4 sessions (about 6-7 respectable hits) without popping the lid and stirring. I could total about a dozen respectable hits (stirring becoming more frequent) before it's time to make a fresh pot .

Pak, you make a great point about the oven lid on Pax 2 not being a great conductor. And if a fine grind doesn't cut it, I gotta get a new grinder. It seems like you don't even need a grinder, maybe just crumble it up and drop it in the chamber. I guess you gotta break some eggs to make an omelet, so experimentation is the best way out of this rabbit hole.

I've been in sales for 35 years, and if there's one thing you cannot do without, it's communication. No customer likes to perceive they are not worthy of knowing the truth when it affects them getting their goodies. Kudos, Scott. It's obvious we on FC are dealing with savvy well-intentioned folks at Pax.

Thoughts on Pax 2 Vs Crafty. I use my Pax 2 and crafty with about .3g. The crafty I leave at 356F and the Pax 2 on the 2nd temp setting with the flat mouthpiece.
Battery- Pax 2 has a lot more battery. Crafty only gets 4 packs per charge, while my Pax 2 is at 3/4 charge after 4.
Charging- Both take about 2 hours to charge fully from zero.
cleaning/Maintenance- Pax 2 has less parts and is quicker/easier to maintain in pristine shape
Vapor- Crafty produces thick visible clouds constantly. Pax 2 seems to require that I stir up the oven every 6-8 hits to keep the clouds as thick as my crafty.
Flavor- Pax 2 has amazingly flavorful first few drags. Crafty also has great flavor, but the Pax just edges out slightly in terms initial flavor. Both tend to loose that good flavor on the 4th or 5th hit.
Draw resistance- Crafty feels flexible on how hard I can hit it and smooth. The Pax 2 flat mouth piece has a bit more resistance compared to the crafty and just seems to require a specific slow and steady drag.
Heat-Crafty feels cooler after a session and never feels hot on my lips. Pax gets very warm and gets noticeably hot on my lips.
Filling&Emptying- Both are about the same.
Look/Stealth- Pax 2 is the sleekest stealthiest there is.
Durability- Pax 2 is more solid and has less parts that can be damaged easily. Crafty has small plastic parts that break with little force. I'd have no problems bringing my Pax 2 with me somewhere, while I might need to take extra cation when traveling with a crafty.
Warranty- Pax 2's 10 years > Crafty's 2 years
special features - Depends, Crafty has app to view battery and hours of use. Also it vibrates, very useful when multitasking and you forget about it. Pax 2 has the "Easter eggs"

Ordered yesterday and my PAX 2 Came today!!!

I love it!!!

I have owned and used the PAX 1 since it was released and could not resist the temptation to try the PAX 2. The only issue I had with the PAX 1 was the mouth piece design and temp change buttons. I had to send it back for warranty replacement due to connectivity issues and issues with the temp button setting.



PAX 2 - Awesome improvements!!

Mouth Piece - Rubber design is different, but cool - Seal around the top seems very secure and air tight. No more connectivity issues as the mouth piece not longer slide up/down.

Temp Setting Changes - simply press the mouth piece down. No more worrying about getting rubbing alcohol on the temp button causing it to stick and not work.

Oven Depth - material seems to sit better (depth) - seems to help in vapor production (fine grind - .2 g worth of material.

Size - Shockingly smaller than the original. I looked at the dimensions and didn't think it would be that much different. It was surprising how much smaller it is.

4 - Temp Settings - Low setting was a welcomed addition - produces a wonderful taste and thick milky cloud for the first few draws.

Battery - They say it is better......... we shall see.

One bummer that I guess I overlooked........... it only comes with a USB charger and not a wall unit charger. Not a big deal for me seeing the PAX 1 wall charger works. It would be a bigger deal if you did not have a wall charger from the PAX 1 tho....

Also, the "black / Charcoal" is not at all as expected. The color seems to have more of a purple hue to it.... almost a bronze. hard to explain, but not at all black as expected. Looking at the pictures online I though it would have been black like the PAX 1.

Well, first post in this wonderful forum, so I have to of course ask a silly question.

Before I get to that though, I am about to enter the wonderful 'Verse of giving the fuckoff to combustion by going whole hog and getting the PAX 2 in a few weeks. Really miss the choice of the old Blue and Green colors from the OG PAX by the way : .( I also plan on gambling a future Grasshopper purchase to cover my conduction and convection bases, which I am just putting here as a small intro about myself here and not to generate a discussion about that model/company.

My silly question is for Scott or Ojan from Pax. I know the technical specs of USB charging and that any USB charger will work with the PAX 2 dock, but I am just sweating something small and so far overlooked in this thread:

The iPad charger in front of me is 10W/2.3A and just screams at my future P2, "USE ME!!!!" Authentic iPad chargers also happen to be some of the finest wall warts made, component wise from what I know, and seem like a natural fit for the P2. Scott or Ojan, I know I won't be the only person to realize this natural fit and plug their vapes into this charger, but just need a small bit of clarity if this is verboten and will void the sweet ass warranty? (Just worried about pumping too much charge, too quickly, into the battery you chose to go with.)

10W/2.3A is pretty tempting to feed your new little babies and the question has been itching my grape since I decided on your product and finally had to ask it, ya know...

Other than that, thanks to everyone involved with FC who make this such a rare and great forum. I know that fair moderation/rules/culture make a site worth visiting, and from what I've seen, FC stands tall above the rest.

To Ojan and Scott at Pax, thanks in advance for any advice, and also for taking the small amount of shipping day heat and stress, losing ya'll's shit on release day, and still coming out of it with great communication and what appears to be a blockbuster of design and usability. You guys really have a lot to be proud of, so thank you and congratulations!

And just some unsolicited advice for a Future PAX model: Bluetooth LE and an App to customize temps and perhaps programmable temp curves. Hell, I'd pay an extra 150$ for that the way I do for LTE in an iPad. Your Easter Eggs show there is the will, the way, and the desirability to open the PAX models by having an "App Store". Let programmers in to bring extra value AND loyalty for you while they brick em! (Arduino fan here, apologies...)

edit: Goddamnit! Now I want a Dr. Who Screwdriver vape. Bet he does that a lot in the Tardis. Dammit! Now I want a desktop Tardis vape with a whip in the phone cubby...
