@VGOODIEZ I’m really interested to give it a go. You mention you have an OHV. Do you like it? What does it compare to from your viewpoint? The inhalation of butane was always a concern but I’m beyond that now since it seems apparent that a proper working torch is burning it up before it gets near my lungs. Actually I realize I have used a torch based vape. I own a Lotus! But I’ll still enjoy learning the nuances of this general design. Would you say this, the Sticky Brick, etc all work pretty much the same?

I am going to be honest with you. I have gotten away from a number of torch driven vapes. Not because I don't like them but my eyes have gotten so bad in the past few years that I simply don't have the ability to make them work like I know they can work. There are exceptions but the angle of your vision on the torch and intake makes a big difference. I got one of these when it first came out and only the short mouthpiece was offered. I struggled with that but I know he is making a longer one now so that would probably help a guy like me. The other factor is that I have such a large collection with a number of favorites that I use regularly. It's pretty difficult to break into that rotation, especially with use on a regular basis.

This is going to be a lot more like a Stickybrick with the direct draw as opposed to your Lotus.

So ive been playing w a pretty much gifted micro ohv for a few weeks now and gotta say im enjoying it. Thanks @abracadaver. I hadnt hopped on the wood block convection vapes yet but I did have some experience w a @RogueGuy smokestack which is super fun. The paduk is super bold and the cuts and sanding are super clean and smooth. My favs part is honestly this little stir tool/tamper. It's crazy how much a perfectly tamped bowl will drastically effect your hit. One tiny flaw I mentioned to Jon is I think the intake could be between an 1/8 and a 1/16 longer. (It would still fit in its compartment) and possibly add a flare to it. Its being the micro and meant to be small I get it. Sometimes its just hard to get the flame into the intake perfectly so I did get some toasting around it. Overall I was definitely impressed. I do see myself leaning more toward a wet option as I notice convection dries me out a bit. Other than that solid pocketable easy to learn device. Def spiked my interest In this style vape. Coming in around 2 years solid on the vape train and the VAS got me hard. Big thanks to this community for everything. Even if I dont have it I can still live vicariously through you.

Folks if you are looking into buying a product in the “wood block convection” vape genre, I can wholeheartedly endorse the OHV Micro. I emailed the maker right after my first usage, (it was my first wood block experience) and shared my feelings on it. It really is a simple to use design and a thing of beauty. Handsome is how I described it. I had some struggles lining up my torch flame with the unflared intake initially but after practicing lining things up without a flame going for a bit, I was good to go. As a wood block newbie, in hindsight I should have thought things through a bit more. After an initial wood scorch I fashioned a bib of sorts out of Al foil to protect the wood until I got my aiming technique down. Seemed to do the trick, although I wonder about the safety. I also got a wider sized rubber band to secure the top block for times I carry it in my pocket, since I was concerned it might get dislodged.
This vape and the entire line is a great value in my opinion. By purchasing one it affords us a chance to support an artisan crafter at a really challenging point in their survival, not unlike local eateries. Plus frankly the Micro is really cool looking and functions well. I looked at other wood block websites and saw nothing like it in size and function. I can see this being different enough to warrant consideration by Sticky Brick users. The rest of the line seems similar, but not the Micro. I mentioned to the maker that I felt this vape could become one that ends up with a cult like following. Use the promo code out there in cyberspace to secure one for under $90! Just think of it. Someone, a single person mind you, made something for me by hand that with proper care will last me for years for under $100. That is a bargain for sure! I think I may get another model from the maker so my first one doesn’t get lonely!

Long time lurker , 1st time posting. I've pulled the trigger and ordered a OHVmicro on 4/20. Should be shipping out today and arriving next week. I was choosing between the OHV Micro or SBJR. I came across this vape by accident and decided to try it out. This will be my 1st "wood block convection vape" can't wait to give it a spin. I will def. share my experience once I get mine and spend some time with it.

I have The OHV in Purple Heart and Walnut and I absolutely love it! I did mod mine though, because a while back, I tried multitasking while video chatting with a friend and dropped it, breaking both the intake glass and mouthpiece stem. So, I replaced the glass with a SBJr black intake glass from PiU and a dynavap water bubbler stem from Cream City Vapes, and now, Ive got a flared intake as well as water cooled vapor! It really kicked it up a notch, and now the OHV is my preferred direct butane vape. The flavor is great, the vapor is rich and dense, and its all around a good user experience. The only negative I can find is that it was made for right handed use. I use my torch in my left hand, and the stir stick/bowl locking stick gets in the way. Its not a huge deal, but I know one day I'm going to accidentally torch it lol. All in all though, I highly recommend O'Connell Woodworks vapes!

Great to hear your positive experience with this vape. I am interested in the flared intake mod you did. is it still be protected like the original intake when not in use?

Oh wow! I really like that setup. Really digging walnut/purple heart wood combo as well! If I like the OHV micro... I may have to cop a OHV with those glass pieces as well!

I scorched mine before realizing I needed to protect it from my lack of skills. Plus if you plan to carry it in your pocket with material in the bowl put an elastic or rubber band of sorts around it to hold the intake brick more securely. The magnets are awesome but a nudge while in the pocket can dislodge it. (Herb and pocket lint don’t vape well together.)

Thanks so much for the awesome tips! Very much appreciate it as I am def concerned with torching the wood....i will take your advice and use the foil bib while i am learning to use this vape! Prolly wont be keeping it in my pocket but will def use a band to secure it if I do!

Upon further reflection, it might be better to envision the foil as being like a poncho where the intake goes through the hole for your head. I folded the foil over a couple times and used a single hole paper punch I had sitting around to minimize the tearing and with it wood exposure. It looks kinda silly but works fine. I do think I’m going to get a flared input to use with it at some point, especially if/when I get a full sized model.

It's good to hear that the flared intake from StickyBrick fits this vape, because the absence of a flared intake was one of the largest turn-offs about these vapes for me. I had no interest in buying one if I didn't have a flared intake.

TLDR: The ability to have a flared intake makes these a lot more attractive to me.

The lack of a flare is critical to the compact nature of the OHV Micro. The workaround I am using until my skill set improves, which might be never, is to create an Aluminum foil barrier between the flame and the wood that sits so close to the intake.

I missed it the first time but @khelek41girl said she "did mod" her OHV which makes sense as I just tried my SBJr flared glass on the OHV and it does not fit. I believe the sneaky Pete bubbler won't work natively as well but I don't have one to try out.

Mine isn’t an issue with regards to up and down. I can align the flame fine in this plane. My struggle, due to having 50+ year old eyes that just don’t focus on close up very well, is the fore and aft. A flared intake really doesn’t do me much to address my issue, but I can see how it could be viewed as an advantage partially shielding the wood.

I sometimes aim from the bottom up with my micro. Like flame enters intake at 6 on the clock hits the top of the inside intake and then goes down into the bowl if that makes sense.

I also struggled with aiming my torch at first but then I just got it. Don't worry about scorching the wood it adds character to your vape lol
