I think those of you who are experiencing hot units might want to experiment with what you are laying them down on. The granite table top made all the difference.

I've found that it doesn't really matter what surface I put mine on, it'll always heat up after a while. With the exception of having the top half cover off. Then it can be used for a lot longer and the bottom half stays a lot cooler. I think many units have some problems with the top half conducting a lot of heat and transferring it to the bottom of the unit.

My unit (snigger) can get to the temp of what seems like brimstone if it's left on full blast for say half an hour or so, but that rarely happens. I actually keep it on the glass part of my coffee table because I worry about it marking and it also heats up quicker on the wood.

As Grokit has pointed out Marble/Granite would be the perfect resting material, a nice carved Granite sword holder. :mmmm:

Black leaf 14/18 MM with an ELB and an F-Bomb? Yes please, now to butter up the wife.

Klipsch that idea for the washers... Genius. :science:

After receiving my LSV and using it for a while, I've made a couple easy modifications that enhance the entire experience.

a. I've added a headband around the body that my girl so graciously gave to me. This acts as a nice heat buffer between the LSV and my skin. It also tightens up the knob quite a bit, so no accidental temperature changes (although this has never happened, it was still a concern of mine). Holds the poker tool too!

b. Bought 3 stainless steel washers at the local hardware store to lift the heater cover so it sits firmly in the top ring. I had to mix and match until the combined thickness was perfect, but I found the right combination. All 3 pieces of the LSV screw together tightly, and the heater cover sits firmly in place. No more wobbling!

It seems I am having very similar problems with my LSV. I received it about 3 weeks ago. Really like it.

When I first received it i thought the heater cover was nice and snug and straight. However after the first full day of multiple sessions, i seen that the heater cover was crooked.

I thought that maybe the heater cover had warped. So i rotated the heater cover a full 360 degrees and the "crookedness" did not move with it, so the cover was not warped.

I then checked the element itself and confirmed that it is straight not crooked.

The problem is related to the metal cover or tube that houses the element and the shim that goes over it.

I noticed that the metal tube housing the element was not completely smooth and rounded. Where the two halves of the metal meet, there was slight bump in the middle on one side. Where it looked like the edge was pulled up a bit to create the bump. Placing the metal shim over this caused it to be pushed more to one side, thus causing the heater cover to not be centered over the element.

I thought i could simply smooth the bump down to fix it. However if i smooth down the bump in the element housing, the metal shim isnt snug over the housing (even if i rotate it around) and the heater cover was way too loose and would fall off. I then assumed this bump was intentional to increase the thickness and help the shim widen to allow for a snug fit once the heater cover is put on.

So i countered that by creating a wrinkle in the metal shim to offset the crookedness caused by the bump in the element housing.

That allowed the heater cover to sit over the element straight without being crooked. But, like i assumed, the heater cover is not as snug as it used to be and wiggles a bit. The airflow still seems good and i dont notice a loss of draw strength but i hate the wiggle.

I am thinking of smoothing out the element housing again and creating 2 metal shims so that there would be sufficient thickness to get a snug fit for the heater cover without wiggling.

I like the washers and that looks like a good idea. Does anyone else have any other recommendations to make this centered and snug?

Waddya think about maybe wrapping the element cover with a layer of some thin steel wire and them placing the shim over that? Hopefully that should thicken it enough to make the cover fit nice and snug. Hmmmm

You probably already know this but pinnacle are selling the showerhead water tool that's normally $130 for $50 at the moment when you use the code pnwt50. Just a thought.

No need to return it. Mine is crooked and works great!! All you gotta do is shape the shim so it's tight. There is a post from Vitolo a few pages back that explains the best way to do it. You can get it snug and straight it just takes a little work.

Oh boy! What a sale.

I'm about to purchase one. For $50, it's hard to pass down. I'll need a 14mm male to male adapter to use it with my LSV, right?

I forgot to mention that an Extreme Q domed screen would be needed to be placed in the lower end of the adapter after it's been loaded to stop the material falling back down onto the heater screen. Sorry.

You can do it that way, or put herb on top of the dome screen in the adapter. Just make sure you have a few screens in the maria to block material from shooting into pnwt. The 14mm wpa works great too, with the cap screwed over top! I pack the wpa then put a 3/4" screen over that, place it on the sgg joint, screw cap, attach pnwt and voila instant bliss!

We're here to fuck shit up.
I jam a screen into the 19mm male end at the bottom of the joint, fill the GonG with herb, cap the whole thing with the EQ screen. Now your bud is encapsulated within the adapter. Enjoy!

So then do you not stir the load? Does your herb get vaped evenly?
