Can someone explain how "unlocking" the unit would result in temperature variances when they are all running the same software/firmware?

Sounds more like variances among units regarding the resistance of the metal coil heater. If you've ever configured custom TCR curves this should sound familiar.

In the interest of fairness, how about you suspend or make an introductory amendment to your current video until you get your new unit & can reassess? I suggest an intro. mentioning the leaking heat sink which you suspect is causing the ghost hits & overheating.
Yea you have to definitely make sure the sink is flush with the top of the unit. Pulling out the mp too hard may result in the gasket getting a little pushed out of line. Pop it out. Seat that mp gasket flush then pop back in. Kept me goin:tup:

Edit: I just tried it on the first red level. Would that be considered level 4? Wow! Vid tomorrow.

Messages have been sent to the critic and Ghost.

So sad, too bad.

Yup, really had to push the assembly down flush. That was just one of the fixes suggested. Got it down flush, but still problems with production.

I'll give you fish, I'll give you candy, anything for that perfect vape.
Fish should be enough, right?

Wish your experience was better. Thanks for the trip down Alzheimer’s lane. I haven’t heard that song in ages.

Hi Everyone,

I did notice some reviews saying the body of the unit can get warm after extensive use. The biggest concern I have is if the mouth piece also gets hot after extensive use. I currently own a Grasshopper and that issue completely turns me off and my Grasshopper is never used as the unit can easily burn your lips.

Does the MV1 burn your lips after extensive use?

Yeah the grasshopper is like a soldering iron sometimes.
I haven't felt any heat in the mv1 glass whatsoever.

Ok, so here are my first thoughts and criticism, in brief.

To start, I've ordered amongst the first few, from US to EU.
After the second email I paid straight, received the parcel in 4 (!) days by DHL.

If anyone seen some of my previous entries on FC, or my YT channel,
will probably know my main goals when testing. Rather than performance, I focus on build and price/value ratio.

The promise of the marketing (and that niccce, popular guy, who makesss videosss of vapesss :D ) was exactly what I (and most of us) pursue regarding portable, electric vaporizers. On-demand convection with good performance, convenience and - hang on - "laboratory-grade vapor path".

Without initial statements, my first impressions, "first run" test result and some afterthoughts as follows:

My first impression is that this is a Chinese, more specifically a Shenzhen made device.

Having received countless Shenzhen parcels I have a strong memory of many typical materials and their main characteristics used in the Asian vape-industry. As of the packaging:
Receiving an Imag, Fenix, Xmax (etc.) vape is pretty much the same experience. Inside the pretty box there is an industry standard black foam, cut to shape, both aesthetic and protective, same as in here, in the Ghost MV1.
The overall smell is more, than typical, if I can have a bet it has been made in the main YUTO Packaging, like most.

Afterthought:
Not one word of the entire device-package resembles Chinese origin, nor states it otherwise. The only clue is ©Ghost Herbal Concepts Limited. Well thought out.

The power supply, fast charger and battery pack are all Chinese make, in fact, this was the only indication of any manufacturing country - for me, also an indication of price/value ratio.
Regardless to EU order, I received a US power supply, no biggie though, I have an adapter.

Sucking through cold, thin air first time to taste the vaporpath is almost the same, as Fenix. Some sort of very faint though neat, almost "tasty-plasticy" flavour, leaving the impression of nothing but an oddly refreshing brand new electric device.

The glass mouthpiece designed oval in cross-section, making it unique, and not replaceable from Alibaba - monetary inconvenience.

A big flaw in the otherwise clever draw-resistance design, that this piece of glass have made adjustable within a ceramic cylinder, but in a very unfortunate way, and during moving it rubs badly against the ceramic, not only making an icky scratchy noise, but grinding some glass/ceramic dust right in the vaporpath :o I did feel sandy particles on my teeth!

My immediate solution to hack this problem:
The heat exchanger designed to be easily taken out and apart for cleaning. The white ceramic bit serves no other purpose than regulating draw-resistance, and elongate vaporpath (cooling the vapor a bit).
So if you happy to forfeit draw resistance adjustability, and have full, unrestricted (though hotter) flaw, just remove this bit! Assemble without ceramic, and no more scratchy-scratchy. Another hack may be to put a piece of tin foil inside this ceramic tightly, but do not cover the holes on it!

Sidenote: There is a black rubber piece in here too, which IS also included in the vaporpath, along with some silicone above crucible.
Silicone can also be seen in airpath, under the crucible, between the coil's ceramic nest and the crucible, making me more concerned, as in here it is exposed to a glowing coil.
This invalidates marketing claims regarding materials in air- and vaporpath.

Fairly disappointed at this point TBH.

What I call a "first run" test, is simply turning on the device first time empty, and with a help of some backlight I look for visible clues of build flaws, particularly off-gassing.

In the box there is an instruction leaflet designed to be appealingly simple, and pleasant for the touch.
Written in perfect english, though slightly confusing (Shipping Mode, Sleep Mode, Vape Mode, Dry Herb Mode, Concentrate Mode, Mode/Vape Button :S ) is also incomplete, as the handy "LED KEY" have no mention of the one and two RED heat setting.
Here is my short tutorial:

The 3-LED indicator utilizing 3 colours. Green for the battery, orange for herbs and red for concentrate.
-After installing/charging battery, long press (~2 sec) the front button. 1, 2 or 3 green LED will lit up for 2 seconds to indicate charge level. Then goes blank standby.
-While charge level can be seen (for that 2 seconds) release and press same button again for another 2 sec.
Now LEDs will flash either in orange or red, just for a second, and steady for another, indicating temperature setting. Then goes blank standby, right after this 2 sec, if you don't do any more button pressing. But while lit, you can just cycle through settings (1, 2 or 3 orange for herbs, and 1, 2 or 3 red for concentrates) by keep short-pressing the same button.
-When temp is set, and you are back in standby, press the front button three times repeatedly (steady green comes up), you now unlocked the on-demand button on the back!
When pressing down the back button, the coil heats to set temp, and when LED stops the left-right-left "K.I.T.T. scanner", you good to vape laboratory grade.

On paper.

In reality it produces the worst off-gassing I ever came across. For the "first run" I simply removed the crucible and heat exchanger, set it to 1 orange, and fired up the coil to see what comes up from the device. Check my video (or repeat the experiment yourself):

Afterthought:
-While pressing the front button my thumb mostly covers the indicator. Heating is also controlled with PWM, producing an audible, annoying "eeeeeeeeeeeeeee".
Meh.

Once I figured what makes this gun smoking, and got rid of it, I will comment on performance too.

I wont conment too much as i dont have a MV1.

However this vape seems very marmite. (UK saying means u either love it or hate it). Starting to remind me of the FF2 launch.

Once bitten, twice shy for me. Glad i did not jump on the preorder. Hope they sort things out.

With a vape this complicated, and so many parts does it make it harder to work out what is going wrong?

Exactly what I expected with silicone used in so many places. Thanks @Gibarian.

Now I expect a ton of "you"re doing it wrong", "not supposed to run dry / empty", "it's a QA / QC issue, you just got a bad batch" and the ensuing damage control procedure any reputable company of this caliber will undoubtedly perform.

We're not supposed to discuss materials safety in the device threads, and with silicone it's been done to death anyways. I just recommend a quick glance at the "Handbook of Plasticizers" available in digital form with a brief web search, as these additives are the culprit and rarely the "food grade silicone" itself. This is where you find the phtalates, BPA and other horrors etc.

:horse:

But knowing how extremely sensitive to silicone smells I happen to be (I can almost detect a single partly exposed o-ring when it's not a perfectly neutral formulation), I call it quits on this vape. This product is not for me. I prefer to support the independent vape manufacturers and wood workers on FC anyway.

With the strength of this heater it's designed to be heated with the crucible loaded into it thereby blocking all the silicone (which imo is there as a cooling assist) when the crucible is loaded properly the heated air hits the plate, then ceramic bottom of crucible, then top plate of crucible then mp. Which is FFish metal surface, then ceramic then finally glass.
interesting here on FC. This one has me wanting to sell some wood;)

The first time I've reached battery level 1I noticed a drastic loss of power ... then when I've re-checked the charge level the green LED blinked 2 time...???
I've recharged completely and all is returned normal...
Battery problems?

Thats the only thing that concerns me about this device and the reason I haven't put myself on the list so far, the silicone below the crucible, I would want to use this device for on demand single or double hit at a time vaping at 230/235c (for full extraction of sedative effects) which looking at the temp gauge on the app screenshot should be possible to set it to.... but isn't silicone only safe till 450f which is 232c...? When you add in the overheating and heat sink leak issues which have popped up which would affect cooling and that it will be 232c in the crucible so hotter in the path up to it... seems dangerous... though i'm hardly a scientist.

About the app -- why would it reset our levels 1-3 to "normal." Something doesn't add up. The app doesn't control the lower heat settings, right? so why would it affect my levels 1-3?

I thought that they were pretty clear....the one-off utility that they used to unlock temps that should be set by the app (4 & 5), indeed seemed to screw up other default temp settings that should not have been effected.

You might want to glance over this reply from Ghost

===============
This was written and posted to another forum and reposted here (very busy week with family and a lot of other stuff...not a lot of time to play with the MV-1 or write up impressions)

I ran a load of Mr Nice for my bed time sedation/pain session. This was my second load. I would say that this herb was just a bit more damp than the Sour Tangie first load. As a result, the first draw was more wispy but no more so that I have gotten with a Mighty or GH. Second draw was great and third was thick as can be.

However, again, this herb was NOT prepared special for the MV-1 but is my normal fine grind, drying box for a bit then store in Space Case, herb that I use for every other vape. I HATE finicky and am relieved that my regular approach to preparing herb worked just fine.

I got six good draws, three on level 2 and three on level 3 with one last wispy 7th draw. I did have to temp step to level 3 with this dense indica leaning hybrid while the sativa leaning Sour Tangie gave up its vapor all on L2. I do find differences in strain (even batch) and how they vape.

AVB was pretty dang good....extremely small darker spot in the middle, but not charred. I'm with @Sue on this, I know char when I see it and this wasn't charred.

This herb had gone through a NV fine grinder and a bit of drying in a pollen box. I load it the way I load just about anything else....I just use the NV Pax loading tool scoop and drop a scoop in there and use the tool to just settle it a bit, no tamping though at all....just settle it down a bit. Worked fine. I would estimate this load to be .12 or so but I will start weighing crucible loads going forward to verify.

All herb is a bit different to vape. e.g. Blue Dream and the Tangie are both lighter colored herb and give up lots of vapor easily. The Mr Nice is kind of middle of the road. I just finished some Fire OG and this particular herb was very stingy giving up vapor. I cannot explain this, but its been pretty consistent. The Fire OG really would have been better burnt than vaped but....

I will say that after completing a load in a session type way I got no overheating (yeah, Troy) and while the swing arm got pretty warm, the rest of the vape was nice and cool and it was easy to hold without touching the closed swing arm without doing a lot of body English.

Let's talk effects. I do try to take a bit of an objective or scientific approach to some of this stuff. And its a fact that there is just not much in the way of research on vape extraction efficiency and overall cannibinoid delivery.

Here is the only scholarly article that I have found that addresses this.
http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0147286

Its dense, I can't say I read the whole study and looked in detail at all of the charts and data...but the summary or abstract is pretty illuminating.
Recoveries of THCtot and CBDtot in the vapor of 4 electrically-driven vaporizers were 58.4 and 51.4%, 66.8 and 56.1%, 82.7 and 70.0% and 54.6 and 56.7% for Volcano Medic®, Plenty Vaporizer®, Arizer Solo® and DaVinci Vaporizer®, respectively. Decarboxylation efficiency was excellent for THC (≥ 97.3%) and CBD (≥ 94.6%).
So, scientifically and mathematically, its simply not possible to extract three times as much as these other top line vapes. You just can't.

With that said, for some reason or another this vape really hits me hard. I wasn't kidding about that day time Tangie load...it whacked me.

Now I have experienced a couple of things.....one, different vapes definitely do seem to have a different 'signature' in terms of effects. I have always thought my humble glass VapCap OG had some sort of black magic as a it gets me very high on very little (but certainly not as comfortably as the MV-1).

But one of my other experiences is 'new vape excitement'. It often seems that a new vape is sort of like hitting a new strain that gets around your strain lock and hits you like it did when you were 16 (or when I was 16, all others I'm sure waited until they were adults with fully formed brains before imbibing in MJ...right? LOL). But its real. First sessions with my Enano (which I still adore) just blew me away. Same with my GH. My first session with the EVO got me so high that when I tried a second ELB load, I forgot to put the lid on it and promptly filled my HT with ground herb (and I was way too high to do anything about it at the time LOL). I don't know what it is, some sort of variation of the placebo effect or what.

All I'm saying is the MV-1 got me really blasted but I will be interested to see my reactions after a few months with it. But at the moment, Ghost does seem to have some secret sauce.

I do notice a little bit of grinding when extracting the MP from the HS...but it doesn't really bother me, they will have new parts out for free and without prompting or RMA action by owners, and it didn't scratch the glass at all. None issue for me.

We need a crucible loading tool. It does not need to be extravagant or complex...better if it was just simple. But something funnel like or otherwise as it is a bit of a PIA to fill the crucible and not drop herb all over the place. I have a loading tool for my SwiftPro, one from Delta 3D for my GH, certainly the Mighty has a loading tool but the oven is a pretty big target (and not filled to the brim) so not as important to me there. But the crucibles, yeah...that would be nice.

TLDR - Overall, still very, very happy with this purchase.

Oh, P.S. - these crucibles, when used for back to back draws for a session, get hot as f*ck!!

So, the EVO ELBs get hot and I have definitely burned myself with a hot Enano GonG, but the crucible does get very hot and unlike the Mighty's dosing capsules, I can't just turn it over and dump the crucible out....BECAUSE THE LID IS NOT RETAINED!! LOL

I pretty heat sensitive compared to others, but this sucker does really get hot and it does take time to cool off to the point I could extract it for reloading.

In summary, so far (and this is very preliminary due to not enough use yet), I am very happy with the MV-1. I view it as portable and not pocketable and a home portable at that due to crucible lid situation and size/weight. It seems to be very fit for purpose in its use case, but it is not the universal, sell everything else you have, vape. For example, I do so far like my MV-1 very much, but I'm also not selling my Mighty. Two very different, but excellent, vapes and both fit use cases that I desire.

Got to run...will be back later. Good luck, gus

There are definitely wider variances in temperatures in some units that were caused by the unlocking sequence but we are still trying to understand it fully - a ghost in the machine ?.

We are however very confident and do believe that the App will successfully reset all default temps.

If this doesn't work on certain units we will simply change them free of charge immediately.

Overheating is not always down to the heat setting. The MV1 relies on pulling hot air through the system while the cold incoming air cools it down.

If the crucible or lid is blocked this could result in overheating and is usually the reason for the oven door
getting overly hot.

This is why we recommend well cured herbs that are fairly dry.

Sticky or wet herbs increase mass and cut down on air flow.

If the Heat Sink is incorrectly assembled or raised too high this can limit cold airflow through to the heat exchanger and result in overheating.

Please note that the Heat Sink does get hot - it's just doing it's job but never enough to actually burn someone - the inbuilt safety features won't allow it.

We are working on a CGI video showing the entire air flow sequence to help people better understand the device.

Everyone is entitled to the same perfect experience and it is our mission to ensure that every customer is entirely happy.

We will work tirelessly to achieve it.

Hope this helps and thanks again for raising some good points.

Best

always a difficult tradeoff when you are already a bit late to market. Do they delay another 3+ weeks and launch with the app? or get the product into people's hands closer to expectation and work through some known bugs? no right or wrong answer really, just philosophical decisions related to product releases

If God is the answer, then the question is wrong
Now I expect a ton of "you"re doing it wrong", "not supposed to run dry / empty", "it's a QA / QC issue, you just got a bad batch" and the ensuing damage control procedure any reputable company of this caliber will undoubtedly perform.

Have to pick you here: you often play the damage control procedure in rbt threads when some one reports weak performances, also very recently when few new zion customers complained about lack of power (not being able to make dark abv as they wanted, no matter the dial or pushing the button) you replied like this:

But that's precisely the beauty of it! You get tons of vapor and the ABV ends up seemingly lighter in color precisely because the design parameters make it hard to char. Why do you want to char in the first place by the way? The recurring jokes about 10% combustion were really just jokes, we're on FC!

-sorry for the unorthodoxe quote, being banned from rbt threads i cannot quote directly-

This is exactly a damage control statement (as we know a good working zion has the power to char if you want it, even your zion has the power to char, isn't it?), as you seem not to like damage control procedure when performed by big company I dislike even more when played by some fellow FCer that should remain objective and not act as if he was part of the company, misleading other fellows FCers..

Hey guys just wanted you to know on ghosts site you can now add the MV1 to cart and purchase. IDK how the free charger / discounted charger works since your not waiting for them to get in touch. I remember @VCBud saying all his vapelifers would get an opportunity to purchase first so maybe it's just a glitch. For those who don't like waiting:uhoh::uhoh:
