@Bob Loblaw

thats a cool quote dude!

I have an interesting 'feature'(purely cosmetic) from birth that made going to school hell when I was a kid.
When you have people staring at you and those same people whispering, say on the bus, on your way to your school hell.

Throw in being freakishly clever at some things and totally fucking retarded at the things all others found natural. Add to that a massive handful of an abusive homelife.

By the age of seven I was convinced all adults were morons and didnt know anything at all.
The downside of that was, I was convinced I was smarter than everyone else.
At the age of seven, that is a massive call.

But I did quickly formulate a retort that I still use to this day.
People look at my 'feature' and ask/ blurt out 'whats that?'

My answer is always,
'Thats the difference between me and the rest of you mere mortals'
I have worn that statement like a shield for nearly 35 years.

and I might add,
what a mighty shield it was and continues to be.

:2c:

i knew we had stuff in common.
not the exact same, but similar circumstances had me doing the whole "all adults are morons. gotta figure this out myself", thing at 10. you gotta head start ;)
thanks for sharing!

I want to live there.

ditto!

love to you all!

I'm trying to find out if i still have fucking insurance! My plan is through the US government and if that was shut down too I have a few issues on my hand. We need someone to fix this fucking country!

You could always move to Canada, where we don't bankrupt you when you are sick. It's not a perfect system, but it's nice to be able to get medical care when you need it, without a giant bill at the end.

Good morning!!! :D

Well, I had a great morning... how's everyone else doing?

mvapes, I seriously hope you get solid assurance soon that you are covered. "It will straighten out in a few days/weeks" is seriously stressful, I know. Hang in there.

Sure. Rub it in, Tweek.

When I was about 5 or 6, I realized that taking serious questions to my "parents" was NOT going to do me any good at all. In fact, I often had to explain things to them. At ten, I was the only person on a road trip to understand HOW TO READ A MAP. 3,000 mile trip, and we'd still be somewhere in Kansas...

My hubby and I have now got our shiny new degrees, hanging on the wall, flanking the fireplace (that sounds so very grand, doesn't it?). Coming from a background/culture where higher education was NOT considered "appropriate" for females, and rarely for males ("if you're called to be a doctor, sure, otherwise, just be an apprentice to the work you want to do"), I have spent the last 16 years totally reinventing myself, and being "college educated" was part of the goal. :)

I can feel the layers of stress starting to peel off of me. :)

 not trying to rub it in...we definitely have our problems, here in Canada, but there are some things that this Country got right, and I am grateful that my loved ones do not have to pick and choose what ailment gets proper care.

That being said, sometimes a private system can mean better care (if you have the cash). Oftentimes, it takes months to see a specialist or to get an MRI. Finding a doc can be challenging as well, as they are swamped.

I am in that position right now. I desperately need foot surgery, but cannot get it because our deductible is outrageous! We pay around $400.00 a month in health insurance premiums so that we can pay thousands out of our pocket before our health insurance will pay a dime. Fuck for profit healthcare and god bless the ACA!!

It's nice when the system works though. I've just finished a course of dental treatment that took place over the last few months. It would have cost me £1200(almost $2000) but luckily the NHS footed the bill so I'm definitely an advocate for free healthcare.

Of course there are the downsides like higher taxes especially for the higher earners (unless of course you're a really big earner with one of those "creative accountants") but overall I feel it's a good system.

I always took your system as a gift to the people for protecting crown and country in WW2. We in the U.S. got the biggest economy in the world out of the war, but still it's mainly sink or swim navigating those choppy waters. Social Darwinism concepts held strongly in the right wing, or just plain greed and elitism probably many times.

I think it's time for payback to the less fortunate families that have worked hard to build and protect this country. The rich folk and business leaders like to take the credit, but it's always a combination of effort.

This ACA should help provide a higher basic standard of living, but I'm sure there will be plenty of private options for people with money to short circuit the bureaucracy.
