Firewood Vaporizer

I’m just not into the stirring or the quick extraction. Yes the potency is there BUT again I’m looking more of a portable vape. I can’t really walk down Chicago streets stirring lol.
the FW7 is like having a mini Mighty in my hand. On demand hybrid.. that can stretch a .15 IF needed into three sessions for me.
My sessions consist of three hits then put it down. So 9 hits off of .15 is great. Plus they are thick vapor with strong effects. I mean you can get thick ass vapor at 350 degrees, amazing.
I literally pack the FW7 and I’ll be good for 2 hours just hitting it every now and then. For my lifestyle, FW7 is fantastic.

Interesting. I didn't consider the need for stirring. I think I was having a bit of a VAS attack when looking at it.

I was surprised by the thick vapor at 350. Fury Edge was the go to for microdosing on the go and there is little to no visible production from my experience. Not only was there better production but a good mouth/throat feel during the hit.

Thanks for expounding on your thoughts here. Gives me something to ponder.

@BrianTL you've piqued my interest here. Where did you get the glass? What has improved here over the "factory" stem it ships with? After using it for the first time I've been contemplating investing in some glass to complement the session.

It’s a j-hook from Oregon Glass Blower @Shit Snacks finally convinced me to get...got another one too that’s a little different.

Basically a longer path adds more cooling, smoother vapor, great experience.

IMO the best way to use these at home

I finally started using my FW7 through a cheap Grav j-hook at home recently, and I’m impressed with even that! If I wanted to really feel the vapor I’d stick with the standard stem (or even the original stem), but I can get a lot of vapor through the j-hook without really feeling it. :)

I don’t love grinding the glass connection when there’s no water to filter out any particles though, so I’m clipping the adapter onto the j-hook and just setting the FW7 WPA down on the male end each time.

I should pick up one or two from OGB too when I have some extra money for it. :)

One thing I really like about using my similar OGB "L-Hook" (?lol) is how you can see the vapor clouding it up as you inhale, and it's that right angle bend that does so much of the cooling, grabbing any plant matter debris (or potential ground glass particles) plus even wider open airflow with the larger diameter vapor path... I may buy more!

I am imagining this 'L' hook with a 14mm male connection. Does away with 14/14 adaptor and would run closer up the side like a parallel mouthpiece. Small spacer at mouth end and rubber band around the middle would make it fixed. That would be sweet...

If it’s a custom piece you could even put arms on it to go part way up the sides of the FW and keep it in place without a rubber band (as long as you didn’t turn it upside down. Even that could be fixed by adding hooks or rings or something to tie a little strap to.

...if you want an upgrade from a rubber band. :)

Yeah that is an awesome idea, see if OGB can do it for you, may cost more money though... I had Phineas glass make me a custom micro j hook for my FW7, 14 mm male with cobalt blue stem that bends at right angle in three places, very compact with comfortable pinched mouthpiece... I got the idea from using my old Lily wpa as a mouthpiece, after using my OGB L hook (this one has a slight upward angle, fewer spikes, shorter length, and narrower diameter aside from being 18 mm female) with male to male adapter in a similar though larger form factor with more pieces...

@Vaporware the more customized the more expensive it will be, working with bends and spikes, with tight tolerances for measurements can be tricky... I'm also not sure what you are saying with the rubber band, all my 14 mm male joints fit very securely in my FW7, tight without being loose wobbly or any risk of falling out, so I'm not sure why anything else would be necessary to keep it in place??

@Shit Snacks Yeah, it wasn’t a cost-saving idea for sure.

I may have misunderstood, but I thought he was talking about attaching the FW to the j-hook with a rubber band to make it a single unit you could hold more easily and safely with 1 hand.

My idea was a little fancier version of that. All of it would be external attachments, basically a little glass rail with holes or hooks to tie a strap around the FW and hold it in place. Just might look/feel nicer than a rubber band. :)

I may have completely misunderstood what he was talking about though...

The 14mm adapter and j hook is pretty secure as long as your careful. I always insert the 14mm adapter first, with a little twist at the end. Then I Keck clip the j hook. The one time my adapter fell out, was cos I was lazy. The adapter was already clipped to the j hook so I just stuck it on the FW. While I was opening my lid after my bowl, the adapter and hook fell about 2 feet onto concrete. No damage though. But now I make sure to always secure the adapter first, then clip the hook. And always open my lid over my lap. 😁

Yeah I still don't know what you're talking about, I didn't see him mention rubber band only you lol Maybe it is me who missed something, but yeah the 14 mm male joint is very secure in the FW7, no reason to hold it or secure it in any other way really!

By the way I don't remember if I mentioned it here, but I was wrong and Lamart still carries the 18mm female many jayhook, very low priced! Also Rogue Wax Works' Etsy shop

I also don't remember if I mentioned that I adjusted the temperatures settings down on my newer FW7 finally, I think we did a while ago, but now I am getting a full temp step range, without any scorch risk, even though the newer ones were tuned down from my original, for some reason mine seemed like it was running hotter so I was only using it on the lowest setting mainly before with stock... Now I am at 310, 340, 370, and very very happy milking tasty clouds for many hits!

No problem, it wasn’t very clear to me either. I just went off of my interpretation of this part of his description:

Small spacer at mouth end and rubber band around the middle would make it fixed.

I may have been totally off, and I agree it’s not necessary (at least for me), but if someone *was* trying to use a rubber band to hold a FW7 onto a custom j-hook, my suggestion might be worth looking at.

For anyone not considering rubber banding a FW7 to a newly designed custom “L-hook”, it doesn’t make much sense.

I hope at least that made sense.

Oh hahaha now I see, must have totally missed that before, thank you, but yes I understand now the idea though I do not think it is necessary! :freak:

Howzit everyone,
I have two stems that I use natively, the green hula from firewood, and the mistvape beaded stem. Both stems are carbless, but I know a lot of people use stems with carbs. Here's a possible solution, using a balloon.
I don't know where the carb would be, so I'm just guessing the placement.
The balloon on the hula stem is a fail. It's too tight. Can't retract MP cos balloon sticks to the wood.
On the mistvape stem, it can be retracted no problem. I ran a few bowls to see if the hot stem would melt the balloon. So far, so good.
Might be worth a shot if you have to cover a carb and don't want to use tape. Just gotta be skinnier than the hula stem.
Hope this helps. 👍

Thanks for the tip! If you don't mind, which of those stems are you liking more and why?
I don't mind at all.
The green stem has a more open airflow, and is thicker, so it fits in the stem channel nice and snug.
The beaded stem might cool the vapor a tad bit better than the green one (not by much), But if you plan on doing back-to-back, long, high temp draws, the beaded stem will get a lot hotter than the green one will.
The beaded stem came with a wooden MP. I like using the MP on both stems cos the glass can get hot after awhile, and I want my throat to burn, not my lips.
I normally like to use the green stem with the wood MP, mainly cos it fits more snugly. The beaded stem will rattle around a bit. You could fix this by adding more felt to the channel, but then the green one would be too tight.
It's good to have an extra stem. If one breaks, you got a spare. If you're ISO soaking one stem, you can use the other, however, you only have one glass connector to use, so just an ISO qtip for that, or buy another connector.
Thanks for reading my stem review. Makes me feel like I'm sneakypete for a bit. 😁
Hope this helps. 👍

Interesting you say the beaded stems retains the heat more. These cooling stems do work best first bowl. Once they start to get hot they obviously can't absorb as much heat from the vapour and the beads hold it longer than dimples so makes sense.
So I guess if you have the discipline you will get cooler hits waiting 5 minutes for the stem to cool between bowls. Not me, sorry throat.

Idk about y'all, but with the obvious popularity of the 7, I hope Marc decides to release a version made from other woods. personally id love to see one made from Purple Heart.

Yeah I told him I would love one in other wood like canarywood if possible, but walnut is much more reliably stable for him to work with, cheaper too of course, so he had no plans to offer exotic woods in the future for this model... But we'll see, who knows how long the FW7 life cycle will be, before FW8!

When I had brought it up to him, he mentioned it may be possible in the future. He also said walnut is one of the more expensive woods to use as well, but definitely also one of the most reliable.

Oh I didn't realize it was expensive, but I guess I'm not so surprised, also great to hear he is still considering it as an option for the future, for now all about the function!

The Firewood 5 was offered in a few different woods at one point (I recall cherry, padauk, etc.). And I know a one-off padauk FW6 was posted here a little while back too. So I guess it’s in the realm of possibility for sure.

Wood species are not all the same to work with*, so from what I understand making the same design in a different wood is not usually as easy as it might seem.

I’m sure he could make it work, but with the high demand for the stock version I doubt alternative wood types are high on his priority list right now.

...but if they were available for the 7 (or the 8 which I’m hoping is a good refinement of the 7‘s design) I’d want one for sure. :)

* Differences related to drying, cutting, sanding, stability, oils, etc. can all make a difference, plus you have to source the right wood in the right condition unless you already have a big stock of it.

Regarding the stem discussion from a couple posts back - thanks for your review/comments @ezpz - I wondering if anyone has come up with a solution to dealing with how the variance in outer diameters makes some stems loose in the channel? I mostly use a Hula stem which the felt grips nicely, but if I switch to the mistvape beaded stem it is too loose. As previously mentioned if I add more felt then the Hula will be too tight. Any thoughts on a squishy, grippy, and heat resistant material to allow easy switching between stems of different ODs?

As suggested by another poster the BB9 works very well if you cut down a piece of the glass straw so it can be used without extending. The ground glass of the BB9 doesn't have the best feel on the lips but it does cool hits very nicely and it's awesome to be able to easily switch from native to water piece when temp stepping up to high heat levels. Using .025g I usually get two long cool flavorful draws on preset 1, one long milky bong hit on preset 2, and one roasty wispy bong hit on preset 3. (Using factory default presets on a late 2020 model). No stirring, ABV is consistent and medium brown.

I'd love to see some different exotic woods offerings as well. But ironically even when I had a choice of woods with SBL and OCW I still picked Walnut!
