The sound of vapor
So thanks to @HerbieVonVapster and @nosmoking's guidance, I've been able to figure out how it worked (pretty simple indeed once you do, but when nothing moves and you're unsure and don't want to force then you find yourself like an idiot just the way I felt :p).

For those wondering the tool should only be pushed inside the silver ring (which unscrews) under the screens in the middle part up to its first o-ring, don't push further else you might mess up the bottom screen like I did.
After soaking everything in iso for hours and then ruining the screen, everything came apart, it is now squeaky clean and can be screwed/unscrewed with ease. I really believe my ESV wasn't that dirty, I had soaked it in iso before, I think that ring was screwed in super tightly hence my difficulties, things should be good from now on on that respect, so thanks again guys, this truly felt like a victory as I've bought this vape when it came out and never really been able to properly enjoy it to the point it's spent the past 2 years in a shoebox! :)
I won a battle but the war is not over yet though as I now have to email their CS and see what can be done about my firmware update and how my ESV is stuck in flash mode and is invisible to my PC.

I truly hope I'll be able to make this one work well for me as it's the vape I've put the most money into (and by far!) and I believe if not combusting it has a lot of advantages I'd like to enjoy.

Unfortunately I don't think you can help me here, but here is the problem in any case.

ESV under 1.22 firmware
Latest app 2.1.1 on win 7

After more than a year not using it (it was stuck in the same state as currently when I left it) I've charged it and to my surprise could use it normally.
Without thinking I've downloaded the latest app (2.1.1) and firmware (1.34) plugged the ESV to my PC and could see it with the regular app.
Using the advanced control ones I could see it was still under the 1.22 firmware, so following the exact steps from their site, I've put the ESV in flash mode. What happened to me a year ago happened again then, the ESV went invisible, when plugged to a pc the light blinks and if I try to use it (unplugged) the lights indicate that I'm drawing on it and stops after 8 sec as usual but it doesn't heat up any longer.

I could switch it back to normal mode using an old advanced control app but I can't remember up to what version it's possible, I've deleted the old versions and installers a while ago (searched everywhere and couldn't find anything in my temp or dl files...) and they're not available for download on their site any more.

Hopefully I'm right in thinking that once the battery is completely down it'll switch back to normal mode after being charged again (I think that's what happened when I left it in a box for a year), not great for the battery though. and that wouldn't solve the firmware issue but at least I could use it.

Now if any of you got an old app installer I'll gladly try it and maybe it'll allow me to update it to 1.34. I'll email their CS on Monday to see what they think, maybe there's a secret reset feature.

Give Joe a call. If he's stateside now, he will definitely help you out. If it's not something that can be solved remotely, send it in. He'll take care of you and get it running right. I had some issues myself, and between the forum here and talking to him, I got mine dialed in and its been smooth sailing ever since. It's a very underrated (and under the radar) vape, but it's not without its warts. No vape is. My coil is actually angled upwards (most are down or level) after I combusted and had to adjust it. You also need to work on your draw speed, at a level that is just enough to keep the light lit. It does take some practice, but I promise you, once you get it down and get the coil positioned right, you will love this thing.

Hi Everyone ,
Thanks again for the kind words and support . @ K, if the charge light on your unit is blinking your unit is bricked it will not correct it self . If you are still on 1.22 firmware, your units boothloader will need to be updated any way. It is fixable, just send me an email to joe@ipuffusa.com I will send you an RMA and have you send it in.
We will take care of it .

Can anyone here compare this to the ff2?
I feel as if they're their own beast. I have both and I love them both.

The difference being that if you like to tinker then you'd probably like the ESV. The same principle applies with the ff2 ... The convention.

The ESV has the heat source form the top of the unit pulling air down and out through your herb. The air path goes through a similar air path (kind?) that cools the vape. The ff2 is reversed somewhat.

They both have heat on demand with IMO the ESV perhaps quicker to respond because of direct draw activation vs having to use buttons and wait 5 secs or so and then vape. There are more things to compare but really they are both great but also have a learning curve. Personally I found the ff2 had less of a curve.

Oh! Also the app interface for the current ESV (I don't know if v2 will change?) is via USB charging and firmware upgrade while the ff2 currently uses an app on your mobile to control the vape.

Bottom line. If you want to vape out of the box then perhaps a ff2 maybe for you.

If you're confident with your tinker skills then perhaps the ESV is for you.

I have both in rotation as the other charges.

If your budget allows consider having both in rotation.

I love both the ESV and the ff2. They both shine in their own ways.

Sorry for rambling (wake and bake) but I hope some of my info helped. I'm sure others who have the FF2 would chime in with comparisons.

ESV compared to FF2.

Taste both very good FF2 a tad better in taste.

Form factor portable wise ESV lot easier to handle well on the move. It's position works well at any angle it's held in hand. Far easier to palm and hide. FF2 more difficult with buttons larger lid etc when comes to stirring handling on the move.

App control toss up more settings on FF2 but requires a phone. ESV 3 settings on unit.

Battery well this is where I feel ESV is hurting, Battery life is good but I wish it had user replaceable batteries. Having said that it does use a mirco usb cable to charge and can charge from a usb power bank on the go.Where FF2 needs a cradle or a external charger to charge. FF2 you can carry extra batteries.

Cleaning FF2 needs more cleaning than the ESV to work correctly. ESV can go more bowls before cleaning. FF2 much easier to clean it's more just a iso paper towel wipe. ESV requires removing bolts to clean.

Honestly both are great units. I feel the ESV is built like a tank. If looking for a rugged vaporizer that would handle some drops and clumsy hands ESV I feel works better. Not saying the FF2 isn't built well cause it is. I just feel ESV can take more of a beating.

FF2 to me is more like a nice pipe where you can sit back enjoy the experience and better flavor well you relax chill. ESV on demand draw much easier to use where you have to be stealth and aware of surroundings.

Value ESV cost less lifetime warranty. FF2 2 years.

Can I add my comparison with the Milaana I got recently...?

Both are great on-demand convection vapes but the ESV is better (imho) cause there is no pre-heat required, inhalation detection (no button), no glassware to break, smaller and taste better.

Where the Milaana is better is mainly for large clouds although the ESV can offer close performances and for its lower pricepoint. I need to confess my Milaana experience is rather short..maybe I'll change my mind but I think it will not happen cause I love so much my ESV!

I was going to be a negative nancy because I worked outside today and was all hot and pissy. Well, I had to retract my original post because Joe from iPuff already contacted me. So happy to be able to post something better. I jumped right in for my 3rd ESV and I got a little nervous. Joe G made sure to reach out in a quick fashion. These folks have a great product and stellar customer support. Lets hope the 2.0 is everything my first 2 were not.

Interesting I order a milaana and was wondering if after a couple weeks your mind has changed?

I do love my ESV don't post here much cause unit just works great no complaints. Had battery changed April of 2015 and it's been a daily driver since then. Seen a lot of lesser vapes fail on me but this things a tank.

Kinda sad never caught on well here. I own a lot vaporizer and honestly still find a use this bad boy a lot well out and about. Might not be first choice at home but on the go it really shines.

After some times using the Mi I need to say it can taste as good as the ESV if properly used.

As for the ESV I use it dry quasi all the time. The ESV is more a no brainer unit, nothing to count, nothing to break.
Both units require stirring in order to get a full brownish abv, no stirring will results with a black and green abv.

EsV is better for micro-dosing. Still in love with this tiny black box!

edit: I can't believe it's still my 2000 post!!!

After reading he last few posts on this thread, and comparisons to Vapes I've owned, including this one, I am hoping there have been improvement and bug fixes over the last year.

If so, I am thinking about selling some stuff and trying this again. I love Milaana, is this for me?

Also, am I missing something? Isn't the esv twice the price of a Milaana at $349 / $169 (see previous comparison)?

I think Joe was offering $50 off for FC members, so really $300 vs. $189 for the Milaana on RBT's site. Different animal, though. It's a great one hitter, which is really it's strength. Much more discreet, as well. I love mine. Also easy to maintain/clean, and it is truly built like a tank. I would expect 2.0 to be all that and hopefully more.

I've had the lamest experience so far with one of the early versions of the ESV, it's now being serviced and updated and I'll make sure to comment on the results here once I get it back.

Yeah love my little black box. Might not always be the first one I grab for around the house but I have been enjoying it thru the magic flight orbiter lately. Fun times.

For out and about it fits perfect in my murse front pocket. If I need to be discreet first one I do grab.

Think somewhere in last few page Joe posted about discount and added a link? Edited for link

Nope, mine is so old that the boot loader needs to be updated.

I had one of those, not to worry, it doesn't hurt a bit. Fast turnaround (sync up by email or PM to be sure he's home......).

The ESV comes back happy and stronger. Mine sure did. You'll like it.

I'm not sure about the fast turn around as mine went to the European CS. It took 3 weeks to get the parcel collection arranged and they didn't even confirmed with me when it'd be collected; luckily I had picked a day I was meant to receive a parcel so I was home when they came to pick up my ESV. As for when it'll be back, we'll see.

Is ESV 2 shipping or is it still in pre-order stage? What has improved from the original?
Does it bother anyone that the battery is not replaceable?
Also wondering if anyone knows where it is being made? Thanks!
