Here goes with some impressions.
I received a walnut Nano on Thursday and have had a chance to play with it a bit. In appearance, the Nano looks like many of the other log vapes and it does have similarities but is a different kind of beast. I have an AZ, PD, CRZ, UD, and HI. I really appreciate the style of vape.
The use of the nano is similar to the other log vapes in general use and flexibility of stems and adapters. The Nano is compatible with the UD & HI stems. The similarities kind of end there. It is not fair to compare any further due to the AC heating element coupled with integrated volt/heat control on the Nano. Cold start to full vape potential is literally 2-3 minutes. (My definition of full vape potential is when the vape doesn't benefit from any further heat up time.)
I am not much of a direct draw vaporist but I think the Nano will definitely do the trick here, especially in the 5-6 range on the dial. I received two stems, an all glass one and one with a screen. The tip of the all glass stem goes around the outside of the heatport and has a ridge that stops insertion and keeps a consistent distance. Very slick! The stem with a screen mates up the the heatport in a very similar fashion to the “glass nipple” that Alan makes for the HI stems. It is slightly rounded on the end and the glass mates up with the end of the heatport. It takes a little steadier hand to hold it in place but adds flexibility for mixing in air to preference.
A GONG adapter is on its way, can't wait! My favorite way to use a vape is with a water tool. This is where the Nano totally exceeds expectations for me. I rigged up a piece of silicone on the end of the stem with the screen and it mates with a 14.4 reducer. So far I have fogged out everything from an ion matrix to a 3 foot PHX Trinity prototype. (No other vape I have tried has ever milked the Trinity like the Nano although it destroyed an entire ~.2g load in one hit.) The airflow and consistent heat blast are hard to describe. I can inhale as fast as I want and the heat keeps up when I have the dial at about 8. Zero recovery time between hits. A lower setting is better for slower draws. I haven't combusted with the Nano but I have blackened a couple of loads. Once I figured out temp & technique, the roast is as even as I have ever seen from low temp to high temp. No visible unevenness in color. Kind of wonder why I keep stirring when it probably isn't needed.
I see absolutely no need (in my case) to ever leave the Nano powered up except when in use which is a serious standout. The fit & finish is great. IMO, Andy has combined some of the best vape features in a way that really works.
Only complaint is that I wish the heat/voltage control part was about 18 inches from the plug instead of about 18 inches from the body as it is now. This would make keep the heat/voltage control from hanging in mid air while I am ripping my glass.
The above was a mini-review. Here is the full one:
Giant vape in miniature form.
PS-Just read the posts about the aluminum outer ring. I just used it and had it at 8 on the dial for about 10 minutes. When I turned it off I ran my finger around the inside of the ring. It was slightly warm but not uncomfortable to touch. The wood only gets slightly warm. I guess the outer ring could reach 250F if the thing was left on full blast for hours? With the known properties of aluminum and using this vape, I am not concerned – especially the way I have been using it. (Only turned on when immediately vaping.)
Wallpaper- Kingofnull is on the right track. With glass I use it with the dial at 8 and rip away cloudstyle.
