I just got my production unit a couple days ago so I can finally try the settings on the dial (beta units did not have numbers on dial). Unfortunately, having an issue so that will have to wait...

For those of you that have a nano, did you notice any unusual taste and did the steel on the inner wall turn a different color? I had to stop using mine because of an unusual taste and noticed the steel has turned yellow/goldish. My beta unit didn't do this and it ran a lot hotter. Emailed Andy early yesterday and no reply, so hoping somebody else has an idea of what is going on. Starting to get really concerned on what I could have been breathing.

I didnt notice anything like this toros, the SS may change color due to the heat. You may wanna leave it on a while at maybe 5 and see if that helps some.

Definitely not. When I first dry pulled on the E-Nano I did not note any taste. No changes in colour at all on my end.

Thanks, Ed. The only reason I am concerned is because my beta unit didn't do this and the beta unit ran hotter. At first I was just concerned with the taste when I emailed Andy, but now I see the SS is discolored I am a little concerned - especially if mine is the only one doing this. I'd hate to speculate at this point but this is definitely nothing like my excellent beta experience.

BTW - I did let it run for about 24 hours around 6 on the dial in hopes of burning off any "newness".

"please allow 2-3 weeks for shipping" - nano retail website

Is this notice to suggest that shipping, alone, should take between 2-3 weeks? or, rather, that one should expect their product within 2-3 weeks from the date of purchase?

I've allowed over 5 weeks since ordering...and I'm starting to get frustrated

You're not the only one. The top of my port and screen has the color hues from the heated steel (like below).

I'm wondering what grade of steel we are dealing with? We know the usual markup on retail products, and we know the price of this vape, so...Anyone else open theirs up yet?

But you look so happy Mr. Clean? Don't fret, some above have recieved 2 units already ;) You'll get it...when I get the glass replacements from my original order back in December. The highest standards of customer service usually applies in the log vape industry. That's one of the main selling point for me on real log vapes, the personal attention and almost immediate response time to emails/posts.

...that count IMO.

The stainless steel tube and screen discolor when heated up. This is normal. I'm surprised you didn't notice it on your beta, but I can assure you it was. All metal parts are washed in a citrus solution and then all units are heated up for 24 hours at max power. I'm not sure why you noticed a bad taste, but if it persists send it back please.

I have owned 10+ log vapes in my life, 4 different manufacturers, all had SS ports, and I've never seen this before, ever.
Maybe I've been lucky, but this doesn't seem normal to me...

Other log vape makers? Do you see your SS ports discolor due to heat of the resistor? My HI core was most similar in shape (open core) and it never had discoloration. Other HI owners core ever change colors?

Even the SS port on a Solo doesn't discolor like that, and I always assumed my Solos were pretty low(est) cost Chinese parts. But since there was never any off-gassing or discoloration, I never worried much.

But I'm no metallurgist, so I could be completely wrong here...

The type of stainless steel used makes a big difference on heat resistance.
Type (AISI 304) heated in air. Note: Type 304ss is not a medical grade stainless steel, but is almost the same as Type 316ss which is used for medical implants.
Pale yellow 554F
Straw yellow 644F
Blue 1004F

Dose that mean I should start checking the mailbox,
or will we get shipping and tracking info first?

Hey Everyone - I heard from Andy. He explained that he washed the metal parts in a citrus wash and that was probably what I was tasting. Makes sense, it wasn't a foul taste and there was no smell at all. He also said the steel naturally turns yellow from the heat, which I sort of expected after a while but just not so quickly.

Here is a photo of my cherry nano:

Andy did a really nice job on it, plan to get it back in the rotation soon.

Yeah, the rings are cool but I just wanted something plain that wouldn't stand out. Got that one wrong because it still stands out anyway. Really nice piece of wood and the hole for the LED is in the perfect spot to see the nice grain head-on.

The discoloration looks to even to me on the inside of the Nano to be caused by heat. The citrus solution might be reacting with the stainless steel when heat is applied.

My crack got a litte bigger but it still doesn't bother me too much. I think it's pretty much done cracking. I don't want anyone to think that Andy's work isn't up to par or anything. My situation is just a freak accident. And I'm not angry or disappointed, it gives my vape character and when it becomes a problem I'll be hittin up Andy for some help.

Edit: also like to add my SS hasn't changed color or given off any odor.

shredhead,
Wow, I'll be sure to be more careful with my Nano from now on. It's got about four little dings on it, but they've smoothed out over time. I agree with you anyway that the imperfections give it character.

I am not a wood expert but that looks like more than an imperfection to me..

And I don't mean to be so self-centered but I just can't get over how clean your steel is.. I left mine on for no more than 14 hours on 6 and I am looking at something completely different baked into my steel.

I really don't know what to think at this point, I am not particularly happy about GUESSING why all my steel looks different than my beta unit or everyone else's.

Ya I'm not sure why your steel is doing that. I run mine on 7.5 for about 4-5 hours a day. I even cleaned the inside steel with ISO on a qtip and do that regularly to the top of the heater shell.

Andy, what work have done on these vapes in-house?
Do you turn the wood?
Do you make the metal cores?
Do you make the glass accessories?

Ditto again, toros. How many are in circulation right now. You, me, Ed, shred, king...it that it? 5 (mods not included)? And how many "preorders" or orders that just have never been filled? 25? 50? My order has still not been completed (missing/broken glass parts) and it was Dec. 24.

Andy - I am not sure the best way to reach you anymore.. Will you please try to reproduce this issue so we know what happened? Above you state that my beta unit had this issue but I am 100% certain it did NOT. It was shiny silver when I sent it back just like everyone elses looks now.

An impact isn't going to make the wood split like that unless the fault is already there. Every log vape maker has experienced cracks/splits at some point. If the wood isn't in the proper state of dryness it can happen. Kiln dried is what you need, and unless you have one and are drying it yourself (probably not practical), you have to rely on the wood provider to dry it correctly. If the wood is partially air dried (what you mostly see when you shop wood on-line) it takes a lot longer to dry to the right level for successful turning. Cracking/splitting after the vape's been made, tested, shipped, and used, is still going to happen now and then. I don't know if the deep grooves in the nano make it more likely to have cracking issues.

Ya my crack defiantly didn't happen from falling. I suspected the deep grooves as well because they penetrate pretty deep and it is where my crack originated from I THINK. Not 100%. Again, this is no way bashing Andy's work. His vapes are amazing products.
