OK, this is just a quick random report on a cooling “stem” for the E-Nano …
I have a
“Dark Scorpion” water cooling glass pipe from
Sneaky Pete's store—I think they are currently out of stock, but he also sells one in clear glass, so perhaps that one is available now.
In any case, it’s a fairly heavy, thick-glassed baffled tube that is intended to take water for cooling, and it has a 14mm female connection (ground glass, the whiter part at the bottom in the picture). If used with water, it would likely have to sit vertically on the Nano, or rather on a GonG/WPA on top of the Nano. And I have tried it a couple of times that way in the past, with a 14mm glass GonG—but I always worried about spillover of water from the Scorpion into the GonG or (worse!) into the Nano. (Sneaky Pete even warns in his listings that it is “spill resistant” but not spill proof.)
Well, I grabbed the Scorpion the other day and thought “Why not use it dry and see how that works?”. In this style, it can be used with the GonG and Nano horizontally, or at an angle. It is
very heavy, so I always try to support it separately from the Nano, so as not to put stress on the GonG or the heater.
Results: disturbingly cool vapor. Like, “Is this thing even on?”-cool vapor. And a bit odd at first not to hear any bubbling.
…
I can start at a relatively high temp (for me) of 5.5 or so and barely feel the vapor coming in, until it gets
thick enough to prompt a cough … but still
cool as all get-out. The glass is thick and cool against the lips all the way through a session (it’s a large, very broadly rounded mouthpiece).
A session is relatively short at these starting temps, so this is good for a “Hot-Shot” situation, where I want effects fairly quickly. The flavor is muted—not sure if that's the starting temp or the device (guess I'll have to experiment more … for, you know, “science”
.) I normally use standard “adjustable” stems with SS screens and start at much lower temps (e.g. 4.4 or 4.7 on the old-school, black plastic, “goes to 11” dial) * . My usual temps & steps get me clearer & fuller flavor, but it’s also a much slower climb.
For me, the muting of the flavor, if it persists, means this will be restricted to effects-desperate occasions; others might find it an option for them as well, depending on their goals.
Anyway, just a quick experience report on another possible cooling option. I assume this would work with other E-Nanos, or even other 14mm-compatible vapes. (Hmm, I
could try it with my Lotus using the 14mm GonG … not sure I would get enough feedback, though, and torch placement would be distressing, toward the face.
)
I’d be curious to hear if anyone else has tried this with their Nano (of whatever stripe).
