[...] IH Apollo 2 from Dynatec [...]
If i remember correctly, the Apollo 2 is a fairly tame IH and needs a lot of fiddling (going past the click, pulsing etc.) in order to create more potent hits. I recommend using a torch until you come along a hotter / faster IH – learning via torch will give you a fallback method in case electrical solutions are not at hand too.

@condition Thanks compatriot, thanks @Momor and @Hippie for your input... really appreciate it.
Cheers...
edit. .. must be captive cap, for pairing with FMJ?.... I'was not a big fan of DV, although it was my first vaporizer I bought, I recently appreciated its potential and convenience ..

The captive cap helps keep the cap from falling off due to the extra weight of the FMJ. Or at least so it has been described. I don't have one myself.

The weight, yes, and because the wrap has to fit snugly and to do so it forces the cap to a round shape; without the oval-shape, the non-captive cap won't stay on the tip but the captive mostly will.

Hey man. I also have the IH Orion v. 2. Although it is not customizable at all (like yours) it is considered more aggressive. It takes approximately half or 40% of the Apollo' time. But I read in the past that it is better to slow heating with IHs for a more even roast. How is yours set for 5 seconds or 15 seconds' click?

I will not buy another IH (soon) but I am awaiting for the FMJ and then I will get a single flame torch.

@condition – Yo! :-)

It's complicated because heating time is just one parameter in the whole process. But you're right, a slower heat up time *in general* is considered to produce a more even roast and very fast heat up times *in general* are considered to produce charring or uneven results. It's just that the Apollo is often described as being way too slow /weak; I guess it's a nice device when you're looking for low temp hits and are trying to avoid combustion at any cost, but when you want to have some more serious hits... well, that needs a lot of work (I haven't tried the Apollos myself, though).

The one I use is indeed very fast (~6 seconds to click) and still gives an even abv, but I'm not sure how that works exactly; as I said, the heat up times are just one parameter and it seems to me that other parameters of my IHs (coil placement? heating curves? I'm totally guessing here) are very very finetuned. It also allows me to prolong the heating time because it hovers around the set temp, so it's very easy to get a thorough, yet even roast at pretty much any temp I set it too.

Unfortunately these temp controlled devices are rare and hard to get, I really hope they become more mainstream soon.

Good luck with the FMJ!

The YLL Induction Heater has temperature control and is easily obtainable in the U.S. Not sure about other regions.

@fogbank – The YllVape IH is available in Europe too (rebranded as „Cuboo Heater Pro“), but it doesn't seem to be a huge hit; the bit of user feedback in the →YllVape thread suggests that the device allows to regulate the temp somewhat, but not in a very precise and reliable way. I might be wrong of course, I haven't tested it yet. This comment makes it look like yet another hack that still needs workarounds to get what we want:

- Big learning curve: you need to practice WITH herb in the bowl. You can't really go by the click with temperatre control mode. Watt mode is similiar in that regard. Really, the best way to learn it, is to just use it, experiment, and you'll figure it out. I'm getting REALLY impressive and tasty hits now but it took a few days of experimenting and wasting herb lol.

That's very far away from what I would call temperature control. There shouldn't be any learning curve at all.

Well I think it's finally time to retire the 21M for good, even with the new seemingly hotter cap and a better IH it just underperforms in every way for me. I might use the stem and put a new tip on it but honestly, it's not even worth that since the upgrades are all cosmetic anyway. Really had high hopes for it since it seemed like a true upgrade to the 2019 but Dynavap has ruined their SS tips if they think this is as good as it gets.

Might have to finally spring for the Omni to have a decent native experience again.

I've had reliable success with the '21 M caps/tips and use them all the time, usually with a Wand or Flite for a full, even roast. However, I have had a couple incidents torching them outdoors where the click was so delayed that it was like one-hit and carbony; don't recall this happening with other combos.

Wouldn't dissuade you from the Omni, though, cuz that's a great vape. Hope you get the results you are looking for!

I appreciate it, and I don't what the issue is but my 21 M has been an awful experience and I really don't know if I'll ever buy another M. I love the VonG but also like to use these natively so I think the Omni is the best bet.

If you get good results from the Vong you should enjoy the Omni. It heats more evenly and maybe less aggressively than the Vong tip, and really does flavor better than any other DV, imho.

I don't know what the heck the overheating (outdoors, torch, 21M) has been about, but it's a weird enough outlier for me that I'm gonna have to investigate and work it out, if possible.

This sounds like when I bought a 20m was so underwhelmed especially coming from 18m couldn't compare, so I didnt bother with the 21 but I jumped on the omni and I can say I love it and out of all its my favroite but haven't gotten my hands on a revolve.

Howzit everyone. I've been experimenting with my fmj lately, using a bunch of tips from users here (thanks btw).

I'm currently using a glass beaded stem (no carb) and wooden mouthpiece (both are from highartisan). 18M SS tip with a recently purchased captive cap. Single flame Aomai torch. MTL inhales.

So.......... I set the fmj a little lower on the cap. The edge of the fmj sits a little lower than the edge of the cap (digger side). I changed my aomai from the lowest sustainable setting to the high setting. Spotlight the "S" with the shiny circle just covering it. After the first click, I move my torch up a little (halfway between the top and bottom of fmj) and much closer. I heat this way for about 5 seconds after the second click. The theory being to slow roast the beginning, then superheat the copper at the end, for a higher temp heat retention.

And here's my result......

Using 2 heat-ups gives me better flavor, but single heat extraction gives me more time to squeeze in one more bowl (hehe). I choose 2 bowls.

Edit: Not the same bowl as in the vid, I was just wondering if I qualify for DRC membership (Dark Roast Club).
