@beyond6strings I was going with the 12-10 as the extra wall thickness would make it a bit stronger.
Mine has a piece of K&S brass tube which is just under 8mm bore.
The glass has a couple of O ring grooves in it so the brass fits properly and it butts up against the back of the tip.

Did you clean it before use? There is some machine oil residue in the condenser usually.

I took a damp q-tip with water and ran it back and forth through the condenser a few times trying to hit all the sides. It did come back out a tad grey so I figured I got the gunk out.

Is there something else I should try?

Isopropyl Alcohol would be better at removing the oils. Water isn't enough.

That (passing a ISO damp q-tip thru condenser) is really all you should need to do. Some people are more sensitive to the taste of metal, steel in particular. I notice it sometimes, but rarely. I don't notice it with the M.

There really isn't anything to fade assuming you have cleaned off any oil or potential metal dust from construction (none of which I have noticed after quick cleaning when new). More like you will get used to it. If you are ultra sensitive to steel taste you may not.

Don't be stingy on the q-tips and ISO ! Scrub until no residue returns on the cotton. Serious business

But I will add that I do think the M has a slightly more metallic taste than the Ti tip.

After you get rid of the 'gunk', the next time you clean the condenser, don't waste the oils inside it. I use a small nug, just big enough to fit it inside the condenser, and then push it out the other side and load it in the chamber again

The Omni is not better. Just different. Main difference is that the SS tip of the M takes longer to heat up and cool down, which leads to a slightly different experience. More tokes per heating cycle or one larger toke. The Omni furthermore allows you to find your sweet spot concerning air flow and to permanentely keep that setting. You can do this by feathering or partially covering the carbhole on the M, but it will be difficult to always get the same result.

So, in the end, maybe save your money. I had an M first, but would probably not have bought it when I had an Omni as starter. The M is, of course, fantastic if you do not want to take your USD 150+ Omni with you on a trip with the risk of losing it.
