@zomger: well with that, I totally agree - I prefer the DV to the Solo in "stealth" or walkabout situations. Doesn't completely make the solo irrelevant though, they are both great vapes imo!

For example, i dropped my car off at the dealership today and walked the 3-4 miles back to work. Brought both the davinci, and solo to try.

- it was a cold day, strangely. the DV was awesome as a handwarmer.
- out in windy/grey outdoor situations, DV blew out vape that was thin and hard to see, even at 390F. The arizer solo was afflicted similarly, but not quite as badly.
- Walking around with the unit in hand?
Solo) Keep unit upright, or, use finger to hold stem into the unit while walking around. not good. also, sipping from it can look like sipping from a red bull can (at least since I have a silver one), but up close, people will ask questions when they see the honey residue and plant matter buildup in the glass stem.
DaVinci) Hold it however the f*ck you want it, puff on it when you want, pocket it, whatever!
- One bad thing though - with the solo I had my stems preloaded, so I popped the cap and plugged in the body. In the DaVinci, reloading herb on the windy day was a little hard to do.. and scary too, didnt' want all the precious stuff flying out in the wind!

for me, personally, the davinci is my walkabout vape. if i need a portable vape in the "portable" sense as in taking it to a friend's house, using it in my car, taking it on vacation or to my parents' house, or if the house power is out, the solo is it. The davinci is it when i'm outdoors and around people, say, walking on a street, sitting in a movie theatre, etc. The two vapes complement each other very well, but by no means do you need both to have an enjoyable experience.

And with that I leave you with photo 1 from my "travels with davinci" series.... :D

And the taste?

both taste pretty good but i've always said the solo tastes much better. Both will have flavors last about 2-3 bowls, then it gets stale/old fast and the ABV taste starts to creep in slowly. However the solo tastes like 100% herb and abv, whereas the DV tastes like 95% herb and 5% silicon whip to me. both are very enjoyable tastes, however, don't let that fool you into thinking the DV doesn't taste good at all. It does :) and it's a lot easier to draw from than the solo, way less drag and effort.

Thanks Kertong - it seems like the solo probably has the same drag issues that I get from my No2 but much better flavor. I can deal with a little drag but im looking for a decent cloud producer with good flavor. The No2 two gets me where I need to be for sure - but it lacks in flavor a bit - IMO

I definitely wanted portability when I was looking. Of course if a vaporizer doesn't have to be plugged into the wall then it is portable, but I am not one who only wants to use it where I feel I have to hide it. I use the "herb" for my panic attacks and sometimes I can't just leave and go to my car in the middle of it. With the DV I can whip it out anywhere and use it and no one thinks anything of it.

I just sent an email to melbarnhart@karmaclassic.com about my device (literally gets hot enough to cause burns). I'm starting to hope that my device is just defective.
I would say it is. I mean when I'm running mine 400F+ it gets warm around the vents, but it's far from being able to burn you. I think any pocket portable is going to suffer from heat up around the vents, shouldn't be THAT hot though.

Edit: My Iolite (gen 1) got much hotter around it's vents, for a comparison.

I've never had an Iolite, but your experience gives me hope Zomger. Lance (the person I emailed) directed me to call their office. The female on the phone instructed me to ship my device out first and send them the tracking. Only then would my replacement be sent out.

Kind of bummed that I'll have to combust for a few days, but no biggie. I'm excited to get the replacement.

I have been getting massive monster vapor hits off the davinci at the default 375F. I just take long slow deep pulls but not so much I feel the need to gasp for air. It is amazing that this little vape can produce thick vapor draw after draw. ;)

I do this too, i used to do it in my LB but i had to be much more aware of scorching because of the high temperature rise but with the DV it maintains temp and it delivers some thick hits. :)

Like the iolite (or any small vape with an enclosed bowl), this is going to get hot after it's heated up. There's no way around it. But like the iolite you just hold it where it's not hot. And like the iolite, the vents will the #1 area to avoid.

400 is a really high setting on this model. I've found no need to set a higher temp than about 385, and my ABV is plenty dark there. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual temp is higher than what's displayed.

 Anyone complaining about thin hits with the DV is loading light, or doing something wrong. OTOH if you want to load a small amount, for just a slight attitude adjustment, that works very well too. You just have to expect that you're going to feel the effects, rather than the hits.

We had been pretty liberal about shipping replacements out quickly, but found a growing number of people were slow at returning or not returning defective units at all. We want all of our DaVinci owners to be happy, but as we grow, we have to make sure some aren't getting freebie units (this is not indicating at all that you are amongst them, I'm speaking in generalities).

Fingers crossed that it will solve my problem.:)

Thank you Da Vinci for sending my replacement parts so fast! I have hardly ever seen such great customer service in anything that I have bought before.

@xivyx420: I don't throw astroturfing accusations around lightly, but I've seen you on grasscity, stonerforums, marijuana.com, blogger.com, twitter.com, etc.

In all of these accounts, you created them on May 2012 or June 2012. No presence before that date.

Not a single one of your 420-related posts mentions any other product aside from the davinci. for somebody who frequents GC, stonerforums, marijauna, blogger, it seems weird that i don't see you mention any other vape, in fact, anything else aside from the fact that you love your davinci. you popped up on the scene just 2 months ago across several big forums with nothing to say other than how great the davinci is. The pictures don't match the words - you have the account presence and activities of a seasoned vaporist/enthusiast, yet your words indicate otherwise. i don't usually see many "first time vapers" suddenly sign up to the top 3 420 forums and make 100+ posts in a month about their first and only vape.

now, i don't think you're actually a davinci affiliate (well, maybe you are but nothing I see is sending red flags up..).. but when i see your post history on FC, GC, twitter etc, and everything is about the davinci, and nothing else, i'm a bit suspicious. Of course, you did say that this is your first vape so you probably don't have much to contribute outside of davinci related comments, so there's that. But same thing on GC, etc - you've been a member for less than 2 months but you've already made over 100 posts on each board. about 95% of all posts made mention the davinci and how great it is. When you *do* post in a non-davinci specific thread, you make sure to mention the davinci. Lot of volume for very little signal.

have you tried other vapes? or is the davinci your first? Apologies if I'm speaking out of line here. please be aware that FC has had some problems in the past with fake reps coming in and promoting and talking up their product, so a lot of us here have our radar set to be pretty sensitive. :)

I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't just about to ask this question myself. Things just aren't adding up.

yeah... i hate throwing accusations out there because right now I am wading in pool of self hate from it - i feel like such an asshole for calling out xivyx420 and I'm debating on just editing and deleting that post or not. But I just can't shake that weird feeling that something is wrong... and I tend to be very protective about FC and having REAL reviews on it, without astroturfing.. but the SMALL chance that she *is* indeed a young girl who is new to vaporizing, got her first portable davinci and is so excited about it that she cannot help but sing its gospel from the heavens, is what makes me second guess myself. If that really is the case, we really should not be taking up this attitude to newcomers who are excited about vapes and cannot wait to share it with their friends.

I have posted on many other things, I am just now getting into vaping. I have tried other vapes from friends, as I have mentioned if you were paying attention such as the iolite and a couple others, but am a big fan of my choice. I have not been on forums before and am just now getting into them. I answer other questions when I can about lifestyle and other things.

I have said that I just got my vaporizer around that time. I have been smoking for a while and just made the switch over and am happy that I did. I don't work for anyone related to them. I used Google to find these forums and these were the top ones that popped up and I decided to start. I have never claimed to be "seasoned", and I thought this was an area that I could learn about the terms and such. I posted in my introduction I am not wise to the lingo or such, and I am learning my way around. I am not sure what is not adding up, a new blogger and forum poster that is happy about their product and thrilled to have found something they are truly a fan of. I thought that is what these sites are for? And if I can share my happiness and help other people find a really good vaporizer then I am going to do so. I thought that is my right when I signed up. It is not 95% of my posts, however, I look in forums and see that people want an opinion on what to get then I would definitely recommend something I have been so happy with. I see so much criticizing on here and thought that maybe some happy words could dissolve some of that. My apologies. I didn't think that coming on to forums and posting about the topics at hand would be such a red flag. If you actually looked into stuff you would see that I post on much more. I really don't appreciate having a finger pointed at me for my lack of using these terms that I should know or for the fact that I am just now getting into forums and blogging.

I know this is a free forum and people can come in "under cover" and push their company but I never had that agenda, just to talk to others that enjoy this lifestyle as I do.

I agree that you should not have pointed or singled me out, especially on here. If you see me on so many boards, would it have not been a bit more tasteful to message me? I am not happy about this at all and now forums posting is starting to give me a bad taste in my mouth. I see so many people criticizing others on here about their questions or comments and now one has come upon me. All because I am enthusiastic about my experience. I am shocked. I thought this was a supporting area and since I had found these, I thought that I could find like minded people that enjoy the same things. Seems that maybe I was wrong.

I have started to sign up in other forums too about my hobbies, such as cake decorating (which you would know if you were not so busy just looking at this one thing), and I am a fan of certain products I have found to work great for me and "push" those products when people are interested, I thought that was the point, when someone asks about recommendations such as on GC. When I find a product that I am thrilled with, why would I not share that with others?

Not cool.

don't take it personally. :) if you read my followup i acknowledged everything was suspicion and not evidence. i explained why i perceived your messages a certain way, and it isn't just me who noticed, so believe me when i say it isn't personal.

either way, thanks for your response, it clears things up a bit. if you're local, hit me up (though i guess it says youre from vegas so i guess if youre in town), i will smoke you out to bury thehatchet and show there are no hard or personal feelings behind this.

sorry to derail the thread, everyone.

Sorry Kertong, but I have to take offense to this as well. My first post on this forum was barely 3 weeks ago and it helped me decide on getting a Da Vinci. Since I got the DV, I have been back on the GC forums (been away from it for years!!) and on FC like everyday. All my FC posts are in this thread minus like 2! And most of my post on GC since I returned are advocating the Da Vinci. I have no agenda, I am only recommending a product I have fallen in love with. I know you mean no harm, but there are people like us out there! We really love our Da Vincis!

@Xivyx420
Please don't leave us! DV needs supporters like us! They really didn't mean anything by it, these guys are just super protective of their home(FC!). But, honestly they do have somewhat of a point. I mean, when I got my Iolite I wasn't all over forums promoting it.. It's just the DV is different. It really is just an incredible device. I might just love it so much because I don't have a proper desktop vape to get lit off of. I've only ever had pocket portable devices and I have to say... I think the DV has gotten this category won.

FUCK COMBUSTION! -- All that matters is we got vaporizers and off of combustion.

Wow that sucks. This hasn't happened to me and I'm glad I see it CAN happen so I may prevent it... Any idea how it happened? My guess is the brush had some on it's end and fell off when you put it up. Is it loose in there? If only there were such a thing as an herb magnate!
