I'm not sure that the leather tarnishes the cap, but it does tarnish with use. It's easily cleaned with silver polishing pads. Wesley provides some with orders, and they can be purchased on his site—they are also available on Amazon.Mine arrived today looking forward to giving it a go. Been reading mixed opinions when I've looked online.
It looks a quality product it's a shame the leather tarnishes the cap.
Hello, also UK, Barkeepers FriendCheers I'm in the UK so no Westley.. and if you check a few posts back I thought it was confirmed about the leather.
But thanks I'll pick up some silver polishing pads.

Of you can't put it in alcohol it's not worth the money. I soak my anvil all the time. You're making me not wanna buy this! Thanks for the replies. I burned it off a couple of times and it still doesn't click. It should be all dry by now. I will wait until the evening and try it again. But what you guys wrote sounds like I have to get a new cap . After just 3 weeks. I think it was my own fault because I put it in isopropyl. An expensive beginners mistake I guess...
The only thing you can't put in alcohol is the cap (which doesn't need much cleaning anyway), and if you have a wood stem, you probably shouldn't soak that, either.Of you can't put it in alcohol it's not worth the money. I soak my anvil all the time. You're making me not wanna buy this!

The heat-sensitive disc inside (which is what makes the click) is affected by moisture.I just don't understand how soaking it would make it stop clicking.
moisture with iso 99 ? explain me furthermore please… i was thinking this stuff (iso99) makes a good sterilisation ?The heat-sensitive disc inside (which is what makes the click) is affected by moisture.
I don't think anyone really knows why but there have been multiple users who have soaked the cap in iso and it stopped clicking. I don't see any need to clean the cap at all.moisture with iso 99 ? explain me furthermore please… i was thinking this stuff (iso99) makes a good sterilisation ?
