If you want something that will hit like a ball vape then get a ball vape.
I guess im not necessarily sure which type of system I’m trying to find.. I’m really just looking for something that will deliver heavy hits without being too much of a hassle to load/reload. Ideally a one and done situation unlike the back to back bowls I do right now with my fusion which feels tedious.

I like the safety of the DBV but if it doesn’t deliver heavy hits I’d hate to waste money just to shelf it like my Solo II.

But for me, the baller modded DBV and SSV don’t deliver the gob smacking head rush and sublime flavor I get from the PID setup from Cannabis Hardware.
I’ve heard others say similar things and am curious if the Ruby Twist might actually be the right option for me after all.. but the more I look at each individual set up and all the components the DBV seems more versatile in terms of being able to use it on its own and or attach it to a rig.

Versatility/convenience on one hand, and effectiveness on the other. I spotted the release of the Dynavap “Ball vape” cap this morning but at that price point I’d rather invest in a tempest and deal with the manual heating process that I’m trying to avoid with a desktop vape.

Comparing vapes is challenging. The action is very different. They will all take you to a similar destination but the journey will vary.

Man, I wish I could just throw the money at both and call it a day! Hard to say on is better than the other and they both have strong advocates

I get much better results with my DBV than others do, apparently, so I will stick with my recommendation. But you would also be happy with a ball vape, too, I bet. Choose based on what you think looks friendlier to your own use style, but if you go for a ball vape dig in a bit and see what you think. Almost any ballvape will fill a bong right up, but some have attributes that take them up a level or make them a better choice on price, completeness of kit, etc than others.

I have both the DBV and a screwball ball vape. I really like the DBV for it's form factor and convenience. I have the baller mod so by normal standards I can get great rips from it. I have it sitting next to my desk, constantly on, with the aroma top. I haven't turned it off on months.

With that being said, the screwball still gives fatter hits. From personal experience, I don't really like the DBV when using the water pipe adapter. I prefer using it directly with the whip. But as you see in the comments, many others are enjoying it with the adapter so your experience may vary.

IMO the screwball/standard ball vape is the better option for use with a bong. It has that 1 and done roasted experience. The weekend hit when I got nothing to do type of hit lol The DBV I actually use more though as I don't always want that. It's nice to just take out the whip when I need it and get a couple puffs. It's very nice. It does still have the potential for a couch lock experience but that's not what I use mine for.

If I had to choose only 1 I'd choose the DVB. I like the experience. It's less convenient for traveling though as the bag is a lot bigger. I still do like the screwball though. I've brought that to a couple of friends places. But if you really want the bong experience you can't go wrong with a classic ball vape.
I appreciate your thorough response and it definitely helps hearing someones perspective who has both.

Part of the reason I even started looking into ball vapes was because it was one of the first devices I saw that gave heavier hits than my butane vapes, and wasn't a sipper like a volcano or an Arizer.. The DBV seems to stand the test of time from its users while ball vapes seem to be constantly evolving. I would like to see more of them with the heating elements integrated.. I saw someone somewhere else mention that in a handful of years we all might giggle at how absurd the open coils are lol. The DBV also can be used with or without a water piece like you mentioned which is a neat plus in my eyes.. I feel like if I pick up a DBV it would more than likely hold me over for plenty long enough to allow ball vapes to continue to progress more, and my wallet to recoup. If I want a couch lock experience I would probably just use the dab rig, the idea of something that can be on standby without having open heating elements, and deliver heavier hits than what i'm currently using, is really looking like the deciding factor.

I still think you'll be pleased with the DBV baller. It's a straight up beast. 18mm bowl and around 300 rubies of heat battery will hit you pretty hard. Depending on where you like the temp dial, you can clear a 0.25g bowl in about 2-3 monster hits, if your lungs can handle it. On my DBV, I'll combust pretty hard near 3 o'clock on the dial. I actually like keeping it around 11 o'clock. That's a lot of power in reserve and you can just hit it again and again without waiting for the heater to recover.

I like keeping mine on 24/7 so I can hit it whenever. It's the most powerful vape I own by far. The only other vape I might recommend is a Sticky Brick butane vape like the Runt. Might be more powerful overall than the fusion.

So I just did something similar to this with my temp dial set right around noon. This difference this time is that I was able to hook it up to my new Cactus dry cooler (Prophet copy in 14mm) and it really tamed those huge hits!
The Buddha generates so much heat volume that this had been an issue for me in the past when trying to hit it dry for the best flavor. My throat would dry up and I couldn't always take full sized hits.

DBV is still beastly!

You mad lads... Just got it in the mail today. Despite being a "Factory Second" I cant see much other than a small scuff on the right side. Thing works a little too well lol.. Any tips for limiting the amount of particles you get when drawing, or does that just go away as the tube gets used? Not unbearable either way... This thing smacks! I gave FC a shoutout in my order and they showed some love with a handwritten shoutout to you lovely peeps return

Sweet! Congrats on the new addition. I think it'll serve you well 😉.

To reduce any flower coming through maybe the easiest solution if you're going to use the wand, is to use a coarser grind or a finer mesh screen. If you decide to connect it to a dry piece or a water piece then you could use a drop-down or glass with right angles or dimples that could deal with flower that gets through.

You can also turn down slightly and use a rimmed basket screen in the wand. The weed will be almost an inch closer to the heat, hence the reduction in temp. The relatively finer mesh adds an add'l screen, makes a smaller load for quick or micro-roasting, herb can be fine, med, or course. When I use the wand without the basket I grind course, draw in enough to fill the joint to about 1/3 full, tamp it lightly with the ball end of the poker, and then blast away. The course grind helps prevent blockage caused by the increasingly dried herbs breaking down while stirring.

Glad to see you're enjoying it!

Thankfully my grinder has multiple screen options, I switched over from my fine screen to the mid. I could definitely tell that made a difference already. I bought the WPA with my set up and it works well. I personally prefer running my glass pieces dry, but my drop down has a little water reservoir for catching ash so ill try filling that still. However i'm liking just running it through the whip and mouthpiece as is.

Unfortunately the glass end of the poker that was included for me doesn't fit into the wand.. but I have a aluminum chop stick that is doing the trick for now.

The top of a golf tee works well too.

Absolutely loving this thing so far. Been riding it out between 12-1. It fits the needs exactly where I was hoping it would for daily use. I do worry about keeping it on throughout the day, I’ll usually switch it down to almost off until a few minutes before I go to use it, then off at night. Curious if any of you use the aroma top and have any notes about it? Seems like a nice addition to have especially if it’s on all day.

I also use it with the dial around 12-1. Great minds think alike 😝. Also, I keep mine on all day.

There's a good review post of the Buddha baller in this thread that talks a bit about the aroma top.

So I never did get around to performing the mod on my DBV. I may have to dust the DBV and give that a try.
Go for it--it's quick and easy and, man, does it pump vapor! I had mine modded before I got the Baller kit and I feel like it's a definite upgrade in terms of the size of the heat battery and it feels more open to me.

Well, I’ve had mine for a week now and finally had to do a cleaning. Cleaning was easy, a little iso for all the parts. Into the whip tubing and sloshed around a bit. Flavour is top tier again, not that it was bad after a week of heavy use, but a notable difference. Loving the aroma too with wax melts, it’s had me mildly looking into Scent Theory. I might screw around at some point with making my own aromatic combos.

I’ve only used my Fusion once since I got the DBV in the mail, but it could still be a honeymoon phase.. still use my Dyna/wand combo while out and about for micro dosing through the day. Then when I get home there’s big tasty rips off the DBV. For a desktop vape, It fits in exactly where I was hoping. Honestly couldn’t be happier with my choice.. while the Ruby twist still seems like a great piece of hardware and excellent option for anyone looking into ball vapes, I am incredibly happy I stumbled upon the DBV. Maybe one of those injector style BVs will be back on the radar down the road, but I can’t imagine myself needing to fill in gaps for the VAS soon.

I’m also thinking about getting a smart plug to plug my Buddha into.. voice activation for those who don’t want to keep it on all day lol. The idea of an all glass air path is highly enticing as well 🤔 love the tons of options for customization there is!

So today I decided to try a screened basket at the tip of the 18mm male connector instead of a screen further up in the grind like I was using before as a bowl. I turned the dial down a bit to compensate for the inch or so closer the bowl now was, but I was too impatient to wait for things to stabilize 😝so I went ahead and tried a bowl.

Wow! Coffee brown ABV and crazy extraction but a little too roasty for me, as expected lol. I think in half an hour things will be good.

Those 'micro' hits are something, eh? : P
