I agree that Crafty has a rep for being tempermental (plus, I had 3 of them fail), though I am also willing to accept that there are tens of thousands of good-working Crafty's in the wild, and S&B has continued to make minor improvements to it on the fly. Service is great, so for the frustration of it failing and then mailing it out, you usually get rewarded with a new one (2 year ride on the warranty train). I now have a Mighty; for my use pattern, the Mighty is unquestionably a better fit. It seems if you are going to use the heck outta it, Mighty does that better.

The thing here that caught my attention is,"If you do go for a Crafty I highly suggest buying a backup portable." We must pause and reflect on that. Along with laying out $300+, and, uh, $$ for something to put in it, drop another hundred or three on a backup vape! Sadly, I happen to agree. Some folks just roll with it and get a second Crafty/Mighty. I have a Pax2 that only sees occasional use. It surely is a testament to the terrific performance of both the Crafty and Mighty, that owners are willing to go through a lot to have one.

Oh this is exactly what happened to me. Not a fan of bags too much so even with the Volcano's legendary reliability its out of the question. The Plenty wasn't around, and since people raved about how similar the quality of the vapor between their products are, I went for the Crafty. No regrets, but I've since anticipated its eventual demise and gotten a desktop vape. And pre-ordered a Firefly2 as a backup portable (or it might be the other way around, we'll see).

But really, it's just good excuse to give in to VAS. I don't mind.

Hi Crafty Vapers! My third unit died on Tuesday (200 hours, firmware 2.08) and I sent it to S&B directly the same day. Yesterday I received an email that my unit has arrived S&B repair center.Today I received a 2nd email that my unit has been repaired or replaced.
This is my 4th time sending a unit back for repair/replacement and the only thing I can say is Storz&Bickels customer service rocks!

Thanks. 200 hours is a pretty good run! Oakland once told me 145 hrs (in two months) was 'impressive' as they billed me for battery!, but that was so 'last year'. No worries, I still love them.

Wow 200 & 220 hours are pretty good for earlier units. Great job taking care of the batteries!

I just wish mine lasts that long, I pretty much put at least an hour a day on this thing.

Hopefully it means a more reliable Crafty, since the one I bought two months ago has that format. So far it's holding on well at 35 hours though I think it does miss the odd vibration.

On another note, damn, this is a good vaporizer. I haven't used my Silver Surfer since I bought it--I like that this doesn't dominate my coffee table.

I just added an Anker battery equivalent to (but cheaper than) the official power pack and have been using it as a daily driver. I'm very happy with the performance.

I am out of the O-ring that connects the two main parts of the mouthpiece. The straw has it's o-ring and so does the part that connects to the chamber. So basically, is it okay that I am going to use it this way? Will it affect the way the unit draws? It's not harming anything to use it this way, but it will let extra air in through there, possibly diluting your vape as it passes thru, so, less efficient may be another way of saying it. I bet it still achieves desired effect! You should put a new seal in there for 'optimal' results.

This is my second Crafty and was wondering how hot it should be. It gets hot from the bottom to the top, almost too hot to hold. Seems like when it was new that it only got hot at the top or near the oven. Has anyone else had this problem?

I think you neglected to take into account, how it actually performs with respect to:

• Smoothness of vapor.
• Vapor density.
• Speed of extraction.
• Efficacy.
• Always consistent results.
• Ability to get good results using small amounts (Using only stock parts that came in the box).
• The cooling units ability to capture particulates (as opposed to the straight stems which would otherwise be inhaled)
• Easy reclaim
• The ability to hold good flavour until the last draws.
• Not having glass mouthpieces floating around in you pockets, which also get extremely hot to handle.
• Ability to turn off the LED/vibrate at the users discretion.
• A filling aid that works remarkably well.
• Convection.

It is these areas that the Crafty truly excels by a large margin.

I own both the Arizer solo (larger version of the Air) and the flowermate v5s.
Both don't perform anywhere near as well in the areas mentioned above.

My flowermate failed completely, in a shorter period of time than I've had my Crafty (0 returns on my crafty in 40+ hrs).

The flowermate has several other innovative features, such as:

• The sliding doors breaking (a common problem, seeing as they sell spares).
• The electronics sliding out of the aluminum shell.
• The ceramic in the oven bowl eventually flaking off. Not entirely safe in my opinion.

I've never complained about my flowermate, mainly because of the low price point. It's a good unit for its price... but it's certainly no engineering feat as you've made it out to be and can't be compared to the crafty.

The crafty is also assembled in Germany with people who are paid a fair wage, which I'm also happy to pay slightly more for.
But the performance of the unit alone sold me.

I would happily sell my solo and Flowermate to fund another crafty.

Ive had the Crafty for about 13 months now and have had 3 warranty replacements. Im pretty sure that ill still buy another one if my Crafty dies after warranty even though I have a Mighty as my main b.

"Form follows function" is all I can say.

Some of your points form a valid design critique of the Crafty. I agree it is less than perfect. (Mighty is better! for example). I am annoyed when little plastic parts snap off.

I also agree with all of the counter points made by @Thcgos , most notably that your critique doesn't address quality of output, in my book an over-riding factor. Two Hyundai's do not equal and will never perform like one Mercedes.

There are capsules for the mighty and crafty sold by S&B. Check the fc topic on the mighty or the site vapormed.com (official s&b site). The site is only accessible outside the USA because they promote the use of weed for medical reasons.

Now the real interesting thing is that this is clearly a new initiative with new products that they're going to launch in a short time. They also mailed a fc member that the capsules will be sold on the normal site in a few weeks. Makes me wonder why the crafty isn't on there...

Hey Y'all. So I'm at 97 hours and I've noticed the heat up time has increased substantially. To get to 361F, it is now talking close to 4 minutes! So, is this just a Crafting getting "older" thing or is my battery looking to shit the bed soon? Is there anything that can help shorten the heat up time again?

Older, and everyone has different experiences based on how they treated their battery. I wouldn't say it's going to shit the bed soon though, but I was experiencing about 3:45 heatup to 180 after 35 hours or so. My Crafty was the 1st generation, and constantly overheated.

Is there anything that can help shorten the heat up time again?

Capsules will fit the Crafty but I don't think S & B will ever list the Crafty, at least on their medical site.

They don't feel the Crafty is a heavy duty, daily driver , constant use medical device.
