Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

Hey guys,
I would like to know if the bottom screen of the heating chamber is user replaceable and if it is clogging up fast?
Can anyone clear this up for me? This is my only concern about the crafty.
When there is no way to clean the bottom screen, its not made for me. This was the main reason i gave my Davinci3 away.
Then i think it will be the Air for christmas.
So its Crafty vs. Air.

The bottom screen comes out easily with a pin or dental pick type instrument. Its just held in place by the counter-bore down there. It doesn't clog fast but its nice to be able to clean under there.

ok, I have warnings for folks. I just sent my Crafty in for repair because half of the part of the case that holds the cooling unit down broke off. The remaining piece is noticeably fatigued and about to break. This is the plastic part, above the filling chamber on the power button side, that the cooling unit attaches to. So putting excess weight on the mouthpiece will be a no-no moving forward. Also, I wont be putting on the cooling unit backwards any more. When you do this you can turn the cooling unit farther than normal which results in more pressure being placed on those points. Also, I will not be securing the filling aid as tightly as before either. Do not clean the filling aid with ISO, it fucks it up. Also, if you wash all of your cooling unit parts together and you lose an o-ring, check inside the mouthpiece. One of my o-rings got washed down in there and I was lucky to not have inhaled it. Sorry no pics of the destruction, I was too bummed, but I will let you guys know what S&B does under warranty and how it all goes.

Edit: Don't put too much weight on the USB plug, it loosens, and if you are cleaning the filling chamber under the lower screen be careful not to damage the little center post thingy.

decided its time to clean my crafty. the mouthpiece wasnt moving smoothly, so i decided to take it apart and saw that there was alot of resin that had gunked up! im wondering what is the best way to reclaim the resin? i used my indica pick to scrap some out, but there is still alot gunked up on the inside. Anyone know what the easiest way to reclaim the gunk?

So I believe I've discovered the zenith of flavor banging this unit. Put half a chamber of your finest. Top with oil pad. Add a precious dab on top of oil pad. Melt it down slightly. Put mouthpirce on. Touch her to turn her on. Let things get hot and suckle the teat of Vishnu! Seriously, we get to experience a purely unque way of interacting with this plant because of vaporizers in general and the crafty in particular

Damn t-dub...it's there anything you didn't fuck up?! I just kept getting sadder and sadder as the post went on. My condolences.

Its ok Sticks, I'm hard on shit. The USB is still fine, although no more heavy, coiled, car adapter cords, and the center post thingy still works, so really I just need the new case. The only thing I didn't fuck up was the battery. I was getting awesome performance from mine. The software calibrates itself when you let the battery run down all the way and your total MaHs will go up when you recharge. Mine was up to like 2900 or something. Don't know how long its going to be so I have a Mighty in my shopping cart right now. I have trips coming up . . . ;)

Sorry to hear about your Crafty, T-dub. At least you have a good "backup" plan. ;)
Yep. Always have a backup plan . . .

I put my ground up herb with like .01 from the oil syringe on top and vape that. No screen or anything. Works perfect and it's completely vaped every time.

Ahhh 13 hours clocked on the Crafty and I'm still amazed by this plastic work of art......

However.... I'm still trying to figure out the most efficient way of using it. I've looked at everyones recommended temps and I've tried leaving it on the default temps but it seems like it's too hot for me and doesn't seem to be as tasty as with lower temps. When I'm in the 163-174c range I feel like I'm getting the most flavor and taste but that I will sacrifice overall number of hits even though I boost by 10c increments until I get to 210c. I feel like if I hit it at 180c and then boost 20-25c afterwards that I will probably maximize my material in terms of the number of hits, is there any truth to that?

Has anyone figured out what's the most efficient amount to use with or without an oil pad to get the most number of hits from your materials? ie. if I filled up my chamber twice with .15 material with the oil pad would that be better then filling up once with .3 without the oil pad. Does anyone feel like the oil pad lowers the amount of hits?

What are everyones thoughts?

I don't think the oil pad has much effect on performance outside of keeping the upper screen maintenance free. I'm sure there are some extra goodies that are being trapped by the oil pad, but I think it's minimal.

Doubling the load doesn't necessarily equal double the hits. Bigger hits to be sure, but I don't think you'll get 2x the number of hits with a double helping of herb in the chamber.

Personal preference wins the day, methinks.

You have about 4 hours on me. As to the effeciency, we've been testing with a lower initial temp 170, then to 180, then finish at max temps. Not entirely sure what method is best. Tried so many combos. I think i am settled in on 185c / 200c. Running each temp until visible vapor is gone.

We do a number of full bowls, 1/4 and 1/2 bowls using the oil pas and the number of big draws seems to be predictable depending on temps.

I'd love to find the best method but I suppose this journey learning is just as fun :leaf:

The Crafty has really changed the way I feel about getting medicated. Water filtration has always been a must for me but its like getting hit in the head with a feather pillow compared to the lambasting I get from my Crafty. I love the effect I get from Crafty so much that I'm completely rethinking the way I medicate on a daily basis. The Mighty will take me further down this road I bet.

Ok especially after reading T-Dubs post I think I'm going to keep using my Solo air bag adapter as my water adapter for my Crafty.

Cut the hosing so that no more than a half inch of tubing sticks out from the glass adapter. ( Mine is more like a quarter inch. ) The size and texture of the clear tubing Arizer supplied with the adapter is perfect. By pinching it just slightly into the shape of the Crafty mouth piece, the tubing slides right in. It fits tightly enough to be secure, but loose enough to make last second adjustments. The smoother clear finish also makes it easier to remove the adapter from the crafty when the job is done. Easier than the more elastic silicone tubing.

The adapter is very light with the shortly cut tubing making this more of a wand style set up. When Crafty is heated and ready, simply pick up Crafty with its already fit adapter, lower it into the 18mm ( in my case ) opening, rip away- Bong in one hand Crafty in the other, then when you want to carb just lift crafty and your good!

I know I'm not the only one doing this, I have read others posts, but I have grown to really like this method. I like that my hand never comes off my 400 dollar vape while I'm using it. It instead becomes the handle to my wand. Now that I have read T-Dubs post I'm pretty sure I'll continue to use this method.

Anyone got some experience with hashes in the crafty yet?

Concentrates work awesome with the oil pad but what about the cheap gunky brown chunks? How do you prevent gunking up the device, maybe putting coarse grinded hash between two oil pads?

@VaporsVaporizer didn't you mentioned that you've tested them in Adam?

Hum! It don't seems to be built like the germans cars standards after to read the T-Dub story, but I think He push it on the limits of testing!

Yes i did. I either put some hash in-between layers of weed or in-between a halved oil pad. Worked really well
