Hey Guys! Got my crafty back from RMA a couple weeks ago (second one Ive sent in) and noticed that the LED light now only lights on one light until the heat has almost reached temperature andthen both light up about 15 seconds before its reached its desired temp. Is this a new feature in v2.10 or is this yet another defect?

I'd say that's a defect. I have 2.10 and both of mine light up while heating.

Oh well, its been working great so definitely not sending this one in any time soon. For sure going to upgrade to a mighty if this fails on me again..

Hey dudes. I have been loving my crafty until this morning when I realized that my Samsung fast charger charged it fast, but killed the unit.

The unit does not charge, but it recognizes when I insert a cable and shows the discharged battery LEDs when I hit the button.

It appears to be working OK, other than the charging circuit. Given that I killed the warranty I'd like to see if I can get the internal battery charged externally OR use a rechargable battery from a different device (like an e-juice vape).

Any idea how I can go about either of these?

Welcome.
Have you tried a reset? I forget exactly how long to hold it, but push and hold the button, maybe as much as 10 seconds (?) to force a factory reset. Some lights will blink upon reset, typically. Worth a shot!

You may not have voided your warranty, though the battery or some circuitry may be shot they might still cover you. Or maybe just a battery fee (considering they'd typically send a new unit, this is not so bad!). I don't think you are obligated to tell them what happened; all you need to know/admit is that it's not working!

I'm simply suggesting that you may have options to exhaust before assuming the worst. The battery replacement involves some careful soldering, but someone here does have this information for you, should it come to that! Sorry I can't recall his name (a little help, here?), but he's the current world record holder for Crafty longevity, also holding the key to a certain other great mod that can be done while you're in there swapping the battery.

So got my warranty back. The invoice slip inside does say I declined battery service but that is all regarding the battery. They did not send me a new box. Inside my box (possibly my old Crafty box) was a bagged Crafty unit with a new cooling unit. The Crafty unit, from outside appearance, looks to be a brand new unit. New housing and new heater. As for whether it has a new battery I am not sure but I still believe they wont bother to unsolder and resolder battery into new housing, just not cost effective since they probably pay around $5 per battery. Doesn't make sense to charge someone $15/hr to do the work.

I guess the only way to test if new battery is charging time. Whats the proper, approximate, charging time for a new Crafty?

Ok, just checked the Crafty app and this gets interesting. Hours of operation says 59. Huh? Lots less than my previous Crafty. Is this an arbitrary number they pulled out of their ass? Firmware v2.08, once again huh? They didn't upgrade it to the latest v2.10? Why?
The battery charge was almost full.

So does this mean they did transfer my old battery and charged it?

Also do I complain about the firmware and ask them why I was not upgraded to the latest v2.10? Or was there an issue with the v2.10 firmware and they are just pushing out v2.08. Anybody else getting v2.08 from warranty return?

Maybe a refurbished unit?

Definitely not refurbished. Heater and housing are very noticeably brand new. Whether the board or battery inside is refurbished or not I have no idea. I sent them an email asking why it was not upgraded to latest firmware.

How's the battery performance? You should notice a difference? Thanks for the report back!

I'm getting 1:55 going from 22C to 190C. So don't know how that compares because I never timed my original. It does seem a little faster but its been so long so it could be just the same.

I suffered through two weeks with an FM Pro and its so nice to be back with the Crafty. Half the herb and at least three times the medication. Whether its my old battery or new(er) I am happy with it.

That seems like a "newish" battery to me. I chart heatup times and here's my current chart:

Congratulations!
The plot thickens. At least you didn't get the cryptic certificate saying this is your old Crafty ... with a new serial number!
What serial number range is this one?
For better or worse, policy seems to be to keep the warranty people happy with working units, while not necessarily being forthcoming with straight answers about pesky details ("is there any part of this new unit that actually came from my old one")?

Maybe they took a return for, say, broken switch button, a 10 cent part. Open 'er up, new button, new battery, housing and bowl --ship it! What else might explain the 57 hours? and the ver. #? So, there are gonna be some differences, apparently. It seems like, had you been willing to pay for the battery, you'd have certainly gotten a new, boxed piece. So, more accessories would have been the main difference?

I think this was very well played! Glad it's already serving you well.
Only thing I'd have tried with Crafty in for warranty would be an upgrade to a Mighty!

Enjoy! And, yes, thanks for posting.

Hi :)

I returned one year old Crafty (CY0114XX) to S&B because of overheating when vaping hash. It tooks 10 days to send it back and get a new one (CY0533XX), thanks S&B after sales service :)

New Crafty did not communicate with Ipad until I instal new app.

And I did not remember Filling Chamber was so shiny !

So got a reply back to the reason why my firmware was upgraded to v2.08 instead of v2.10:

"Thank you for your inquiry.

We do not anticipate any problems with your OS – it is the most current version available for repair services."

First time poster, long time lurker :). I wish we could have met on better circumstances, as i have bad news on my side. After about 185 hours of operation my first crafty is not functioning anymore. I dont get any orange notification lights; it seems to function normally, however after it reaches it temp the lights turn off and it doesn't heat anymore. i turn it back on but again the same thing.Tried factory reset and it didnt do anything.

I contacted S&B and they told me to fill a RTM form. I live in Canada. Anyone have any good pre-shipping tips (cleaning wise)?

I just had mine come back from warranty. Just wiped down heater and housing with ISO and that's it. You won't have any issues.

Thanks Hawk! I've been scraping away at the heater but it's not all coming off. I'll try some iso, thanks!

Doesn't need to be spotless. Mine looked well used. As long as your not shipping herb with it it doesn't matter even if they open it up, they will pass it through.

Perfect! I was just about to ask how well i needed to clean it. i removed the screen in the bottom of the heater and used a lightly dampened iso pad and wiped it out. i got most of it off, it actually looks pretty good lol but here is a bit of residue in the lip where the screen is held. I think it'll do based on what you said :). thanks again!
