That just happened...
UPDATE on the "muzzmod".

I find the "jb weld kwik" epoxy not to be reliable to be honest. My adapter quickly came clean off the plastic piece with the jb weld still on the glass once it heated up. I normally dont vape under 390° as I go for effect and the taste is still there (many times better than combusting) and then I raise it to 410° after 3-5 draws.

The jb weld doesn't adhere well to the plastic. I decided to make the surface of my plastic piece more rough to give it more grip. I sanded it down with 80 grit sandpaper instead of using my dremel and then I moved up to 150 grit paper and left it alone after that. There is a semi smooth surface as a result.

As for the epoxy, I decided to use my tried and true loctite epoxy that I use on all my wood work and other diy's.

This stuff is no joke! I mixed some up and applied it to the seam between my adapter and plastic piece while clamped. I had to leave for work so I left the PonG adapter clamped until the morning when it should be fully dried. I will post pics of it when I get home and will put it to the test to see how it holds up. I don't see it coming off now but time will tell....

I also like that the loctite dries clear. Its a cleaner look. And again, this stuff is no joke! I have built dressers with no nails or screws before. Yea, you read that correct and I haven't had a single fail to date. This stuff is amazing. I don't see it letting me down now.

It's funny you feel the need to update my mod with a method you haven't even tested. Please remove the name muzzmod from your post. My method has been tested since last year by several people and has proven to be reliable. Use whatever glue you want but this is hardly an update to my mod.

Crafty Vaper

Ain't easy being green
Welp, my first Crafty is dead on hour 97. Mid session, Crafty turned off and now only communicates in red and orange flashes. This is after a series of overheating issues that began manifesting in the last two weeks.

Not a happy camper. :-(

@Marky - any advice on how to best go about handling this with S & B in an relatively painless way?

I have my third Crafty. Put your Crafty without cooling unit in the original Box, put a copy of the bill and a handwriting description of your problem in the box too. Send it to S&B and wait. After one week ask for your vaporizer per email. I've never got a problem with them.

@skeletor I second Crafty Vaper. If you just follow the steps outlined on their website they will take care of you:

http://www.storz-bickel.com/shop_us/en/repair-info/

That outlines the steps for North American customers. If you are outside of NA, it should redirect you to the EU site where the info involves sending the package to Germany. If you call them first, you may be able to have them send you a prepaid label to cover your shipping costs. I know that they can't do this from Canada but they have been understanding of the fact I paid $20 to ship my unit and they knocked the price down on some accessories. I don't think these last two things are official policy which is why I say you "may be able to"

The official steps are clearly outlined on the website.

Sorry to hear you are having issues, but you'll be back up and running in no time.

Thanks mate, ordered the beauty last night!

You are not going to be disappointed! (unless you intend to use it back to back for 10+ sessions a day.. then you might be a little disappointed in how often you are charging). :D

I e-mailed them, and explicitly asked to BUY another Crafty as collateral and to trade in the (very obviously) not working Crafty with a refund upon receipt.

Got the form letter as a response.

Sent another e-mail. Politely asked again. Politely asked for a shipping label. Pointed out this is the SECOND need to replace faulty items from this unit in two weeks (bad cooling unit was replaced two weeks ago). I even put these parts in bold and begged the rep to read them and consider them.

Got the form letter as a response again.

Asked AGAIN. Got a standard form response for a shipping label, no engagement with the rest of my message.

I will send in my Crafty. Then, I will not buy another Storz & Bickel product again, because I don't have time for back and forth nonsense, and didn't expect I'd have to buy TWO Craftys, just so I could have ONE around to work reliably, and then get no engagement. If the option is a $339 device that breaks every three months with a complete pain in the ass to have a conversation about it vs. a cheaper Pax that is "not as good," but works reliably and receives reasonable customer support, why am I continuing to shop with S & B?

What a bummer. It's sad what's happened to Storz & Bickel customer service from page 1 to page 241 of this thread. The stories have gone from overwhelmingly positive to garbage e-mail communication.

Got the red/yellow lights of disappointment last Friday. Called S&B in Oakland and got a shipping label immediately via email. Shipped it to them on Saturday. They received it on Monday. Got an email saying they sent something out to us this afternoon. Can't complain around the turn around time although it sucked having to send it out. Combusted for the first time in a long, long time. That was not tasty.

We've generally been pretty pleased with the unit. I would certainly consider a gen 2 version if they release one. It really does seem to be one of the most consistently performing portables.

Calling does seem to be more reliable. I think I mentioned it. :)
I know. I tried. Been there, done that, 2 weeks ago when problems began after receiving new cooling unit. No one answered the phone. Voicemails went completely unanswered.

Just inefficiently combusted, because there is no alternative array of backup vapes up in Snake Mountain. It was awful.

Let's hope my outgoing package tomorrow doesn't take forever to come back given the three-day weekend. I'm so disappointed, and wish I'd fought harder two weeks ago. I stopped, frankly, because when I started mentioning how crappy the response from S & B was about this intermittent issue, folks on this forum suggested I was somehow wasting S & B's time/resources to help other forum members. Now I have a $339 brick. :bang:

Damn man, that sucks. I vaguely remember your original posts now that you mention it. Always a shame to see inconsistent service. You hope for either always good or always bad so you can make decisions.

Really hope you are back to vaping soon!

My New replaced crafty and my very new cloud evo(got it the day my org crafty broke)

What a great customer service! They sent me all these! A complete set of crafty with eveything and a dozen spares!

I doubt that vapexhale or any other company out there are generous as SB.
Considering that I had only paid 350 cad for my crafty, less than 280 at the time and it was the old version one with that weak housing, I am extermley satisfied :D
Sold my 1200 overpriced macbook which was more like a toy than a useful computer. Bought a 250 desktop+$150ssd, and invested that 800 in my crafty and evo!
Happy Vaping :D
I'm high as ... :ko:

I would *love* to know what you did differently than I have when dealing with S & B, since I basically got told that I'll be waiting over the three day weekend for anyone to even look at my device, ensuring I'll be down for over 10 days -- 2 weeks after they had to replace a broken cooling unit. :bang:

Back to smoking we go, since I'm not going out to spend a few hundred more bucks on a vaporizer.

It would be really swell if people had similar experiences.

Nothing really. I contacted them before I ship them my unit. They emailed me back with a paper which I had to fill with my personal information and the reasons for returing! I listed a couple like my charger which broke in less than a month. I think I got my replaced crafty in less than 10 days, including 5.6 days which it took to get there from here, Canada.

After 3 craftys I opted to upgrade to the mighty a few months ago. I already owned a mighty so I knew what to expect. I works better for my needs.
I think I will have to think about doing the same. Since pairing the Crafty with a bubbler every time I vape, with a normal session of 3/4/5 pulls I get overheating. There's no doubt all the times it happens I'm pretty baked too, so it's for the better.
With no glass having a full bowl always hurted a bit on my lungs. With that limit removed I can see why many guys here chose to upgrade to the Mighty. I dont cough while on the opposite, the unit "melts" on itself trying to keep the temperature going.

I wonder if the new Prima vapourizer comes close to the crafty in terms of taste and coolness of vapour they say it's in the same league as the mighty. You can pre order it for 339$ CDN. It don't have the bells and whistles of the crafty but a removable stainless steel air path and 5 year warranty.

After owning an I-Inhale, then mflb for many years and being a daily user, I have decided to finally upgrade to what hoped to be the best possible vape. I followed this and the Mighty thread from day one in order to help make an informed decision. Because of stealth and portability and manufacturer customer service, I chose the Crafty. Even though there have been some issues with the unit, I felt that if anything went wrong, I would have no trouble with the warranty service.

So i purchased my crafty early July (version 2.07) and although it has a rather short battery life and the 1 min. shut-off, I absolutely love this vape. Nothing compares and my mflb has been placed into retirement.

After 2 months and 27 hrs of usage, I pressed the button for a temperature boost during a session. I noticed the the unit turned off for some reason, so I pressed the button again and was blessed with the dreaded red/yellow flash.

Even though I would be without my Crafty for a week or more, I was confident that S&B warranty and customer service would pull through. I sent the unit to S&B America in accordance the warranty procedure. I tracked my shipment, and the day after they received it, I sent an E-Mail to ask if the can ship out a new unit before the Labor Day weekend (need it back before the following weekend).

My E-mail was responded to later in the day with the following statement:

Issue: red/orange flashing light

Findings: unit has come in contact with moisture/water and is NOT COVERED under warranty.

The invoice indicated that it would cost me $239 to have it replaced
Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. My Crafty has NEVER seen a drop of moisture/rain or water in any way. I even keep it in a Pelican case!

I will be calling S&B fist thing after the holiday weekend. Any suggestions out there on how to deal with this issue? Has anyone else had this happen?

Thanx!

I don't understand what your saying but it seems like your trashing the crafty and saying the solo is better?

I used to be a hardcore solo user and then got the air when It was released. I still have both units to this day and I can tell you the crafty blows both units out the water, consistently! In fact, I used the solo and air last night with my friends along with my crafty and mighty. The solo and air stayed cold after a while if you know what I mean.

I find it hard to believe you even knew how to use it if you truly feel the solo is better lol. Because you should know then that even though the crafty gets less draws it still gets you higher than the solo. And you say you had premium weed because you were in amsterdam? What does that have anything to do with it? Did you try some real sour diesel? Some real og kush? Or some real headband? You don't need to be in amsterdam to find that.

I was given an Inhalater Xp . Used it once & never again nowhere near as good as my mighty & crafty now it just lives on top of the fridge collecting dust. You can have my Inhalater if you want lol .

I haven't had this happen but I understand how it could happen. There are moisture strips in most electronics so manufacturers can "prove" when water damage has occurred. Their policy would be to deny service if the strips show that there has been moisture.

Do you ever use it in super humid environments or with a water pipe? Neither should trigger one of those strips but I'm curious.

I hope that a patient and polite phone call can help you explain to them that it was not intentional damage and that they will take care of you.

Good luck!

There is already a Vapir Prima thread.

Initial reports seem to be positive but the first reviewer says crafty/mighty have better vapor quality.
These vapes are not released yet.

Thank you BioSector. I reside in northeast US where it might get a bit humid at times, but nothing extreme. Also, I don't own any sort of water pipe attachment. My hand might get a little sweaty while holding it sometimes, however I would find it hard to believe this would cause a moisture strip to become saturated.

The only thing I can think of is that I once used it before I took a shower and left it in the the same room (not IN the shower). I am positive that no actual water was even close to the unit, but it might have been fairly humid. The unit functioned normally for two weeks after this occurrence.

How sensitive are these "moisture strips" ? Do they accumulate moisture over time, or are they designed to indicate sudden saturation?

Could this be related to some of the Crafty failures we have been reading about in the forum? If it is, I'm surprised there havent been more warranty rejections.

Yes the strips are quite sensitive usually. Fwik they are designed to indicate saturation, if I got what you mean.

Crafty owners might need to be EXTREMELY careful so as to not expose the unit to any HINT of humidity or be anywhere NEAR rain or even THINK about moisture in any form or way while near the unit.

I have never been the kind of person to willfully try to scam a company with regard to a warranty situation. My Crafty just died in mid session and I'm confident that water had nothing to do with it. It is just a bit frustrating that so many out there had no problem with the warranty process and I have to cough up $239 (although its nice for them to offer $100 off). I just cant afford this and will have to go back to my mflb.

When I call, I hope CS will believe that my Crafty was used normally and never been a victom of water abuse.

I'll let you all know the results.

I agree with Biosector tries they tell you more about the question of humidity. Ask if it was in electronic or just in the strip moisture.
They refused to guarantee my first crafty, but I was offered 50% discount on a new one.

If anyone still has trouble getting any stains off the crafty bowl, 100% pure Acetone works perfectly.

I wish I could have taken a before shot in order to show the difference. The acetone also renews the screens and removes that dark stain in between the metal and plastic part of the bowl. Due to its strength, there is virtually no scrubbing. Just one wipe with a q-tip is good.

It has to be 100%. Don't use nail polish remover, as it has oils. I found it at a local beauty supply.
