The CouchLog

is a full convection, log style vaporizer with a ceramic beads heater made in Germany.
I simply love building vapes and want to thank the whole FC community for feeding me with inspiration and knowledge.
What started as a DIY project escalated pretty quickly into this high-end product - here you go :)

CL.jpg

Features and numbers:

-Herb chamber can hold up to 0,15g and is cleared in 1 hit.
For microdosing, go as low as you want. There is no insufficient amount.
-Heater has a 14mm fit, so you can attach it to other 14mm components. (custom bowls)
-Low draw resistance.
-Airpath of the CouchLog contains ceramic and stainless steel.
-Mouthpiece can be used with or without glas. (fits 14mm/18mm)
-Herbs are detached from the heating element, to prevent the load from losing potency and keep the heater clean.
-The cooling unit is adjustable and the containing reclaim is easily recyclable.
-Log and temperature control are magnetic to attach them to magnetic surfaces and prevent them from tipping over.
If you don't have a magnetic surface in your dojo, two adhesive metal Pads are included.
-Heat protection sleeve is detachable to work in close conditions and to speed up the cooling process.
-For better handling, the unit can be unplugged while vaping.
-Temperature range is around 160°C-250°C
-The CouchLog needs 15 min to get into thermal equilibrium and can be run all day.
-Power supply needs 12W max.
-Size of the CouchLog Ø40mm x 100mm
-Size of the temperature control Ø44mm x 39mm
-Stirring/Tamp tool
-Funnel for easier loading

Performance shot (glas):

Direct use:

Beta phase with several test devices went very smoothly.

Now I'm looking for interested people to produce a first batch.
Batch size depends on demand.

starting price for the CouchLog is 370€ + shipping
It contains:
-CouchLog (Oak wood)
-temperature control (Oak wood)
-Mouthpiece (Oak wood)
-Power supply (EU/US)
-connecting cable
-Stirring/Tamp tool
-Loading funnel
-2x Metal adhesive pads
-Recycling pads
-Spare parts (O-Ring/screen)
-Manual

The production time depends on several factors, but we're doing our best to get the devices out asap. (the payment needs to be done when your device is ready for shipping)

If you're interested, send me a DM with your contact details (E-Mail/Name/Country) and I will add you to the list.

This looks very interesting. Can you tell us more about the heater? I’m not totally sure what you mean by “ceramic beads.”

How long can the unit hold temperature after being unplugged?

Can you show us what the cooling unit looks like? What do you mean by “adjustable”? Adjustable airflow or something else?

little ceramic balls

ceramic has a high heat capacity, but if you want the exact adjusted temperature, just some seconds.
(the performance video was filmed without cord)

the cooling unit (Recycling pads) is a pressed wire pad. If you want more cooling you put both of them in the mouthpiece. The pads also fits the herb chamber.
This way u use it as a concentrate pad. You can recycle ur reclaim and get ur pads clean at the same time. Simple and effective.
If you use it through glas u dont need them.

hope this makes sense :)

When would you envision the starter units be available?
hard question! Like i said, this depends on several factors. which place u got on the list, batch size, part delivery...
I say from start to shipping max. 4 months.
what kind of power supply? variable voltage?
its a PWM we made our own board to fit in the small wood body.

Congratulations! Cool design mash-up. Vape tech synergy!

Heat transfer using spheres -- long warm up time with this style, but good heat retention for cordless use -- great differentiation feature for CouchLog

Spheres are good little heat stores, and also turbulate air molecules for better transfer. Like Glass Symphony, G43, TerpTorch, HighLighter, HotShot. Non-vape industry calls it a "ball turbulator"

Maybe try a turbulator in the stem, instead of mesh pads? "Twisted tape turbulator" is cheap, easy to remove and reinsert for cleaning. Simrell's stinger uses this design. Or, maybe go symmetric, and use ball turbulation in stem? But that style requires C-clip retaining ring for a screen, need to include c-clip pliers, user needs strainer, ugg, too messy

This page has nice descriptions of turbulators for FC readers interested. I'm sure this is all old news to @Beefcake@420Eng

Thank u very much!!!:)

Im well aware of this design.
The material and the effect is the same.
But the recycling aspect is a really nice feature, i wont miss anymore.
If u dont like it shove it in a j-hook and ur good or put glassballs etc. In the mouthpiece, cause u can close both ends of it. (1extra screen needed)

This page has nice descriptions of turbulators for FC readers interested.
I know the dynamics ;) thank you!

Hi will there be an option to use different mouthpieces?

Also you mention it can be cleared in one, is that how it's designed to be used or can it be taken slower?

What do u mean with different mouthpieces?
Other shapes? Maybe in the future. Depends on the success of the product.

You can go as slow as u want.
I like smaller bowls and clear them in one, but thats me :)

"On paper" the CouchLog sounds great. Some may feel sticker shock, but ya git what ya pay fer

You built a better log vape. Calorific retention with ceramic balls. Temporary freedom from cord during one hits. Better built in power management than somewhat clunky variable voltage bricks

You built a better ball injector vape. It's actually safe to handle and use comfortably, no more "holy shit that burns" injector tattoos. Clever magnetic base concept to avoid tipping accidents

Nice work! I'm sure you will offer custom exotic wood choices down the road, for those eye popping wood porn pics

Can you tell us more about the heater?
Some more infos on the heater:
The surface area of he heater got maximized to get dense vapor pretty instantly.

The ceramic has an excellent heat capacity to get big clouds with an pretty small heater.

Thanks for the kind words!
Im sure there will be wood options in the future and laser engravings on the heat sleeve.

@Saerdna - First post of this thread has many details, including 15 min warmup time

All of the "thermal mass" style heaters require long warmups. For years, many log vape users have plugged in morning, leave on all day. After initial warmup, it's on demand, no waiting anymore. Apparently, the CouchLog requires less current to remain at thermal equilibrium than other designs with variable voltage. I'm guessing the CouchLog "heat shield" is to address safety concerns with it on all day?

So with a base price of €370 the beta units cost $433usd plus shipping.

Consider making a longer video where you show the stem being loaded and use the wooden knob temp thing. It's not clear to me how that part fits. Do the magnets hold the parts together or are they just to keep it from falling over because it's tall?

Thanks for the one hit with the ABV shot afterward.

I caved in, the VAS is strong with this one. Sent PM to be added to list

Our duty and responsibility to support new vape engineers and their creations, right? Or, did I misread the forum rules

Question: What heats the ceramic balls? Is it the tried and true ceramic rod found in so many vapes for decades, surrounded by the balls, like Troy's SSV43? Or a steel wire style heat source?

Another: That wood heat sleeve temp dial seems magical ... how can it control temp/power when it's detachable?

Last one: How can someone like me commit to purchase something I have so many questions about?

where's the power cord?
Watch the first video. Its has a length of 1m. Standard DC cable, so you can buy another length if you need to.
Connecting order:
Powersource - temp control - cord - CouchLog

SS cartridge.
It is detachable for vaping only (better handling). When ur hit is done, plug it in again.

No, this is 100% correct. Thank you so much :)
