Cheap High Quality Bubbler

hey all, rec'd my kathy recycler .Im sorry I am a 'tard and suck at computers other than the real dumb ass basics,so anyhow Im not helpful with vids.My impression is its a china learning curve, a year ago they were learning about perc placement, now its recyclers, and for the most part, psuedo, more of a splash guard .All water levels with Solo gong in and also with out to see if vortex could be possible, its a neat little pipe when paired w a Solo.It took various water levels ( I found 1/2 the can for my so so vortexes)and draw speeds to get it to vortex (it does its best job when Solo is in use, rather than clearing it,slight chance of water on clear if too hard) so so but still a neat pipe and trust me, they will get better, just takes a little time and another person who has the skill set and before you know it there's 100 glowers all capable of doing em right.

Now this unit was the bomb for my double buy this rig was literally a hammer,Built HEAVY DUTY(5mm) and worked well, perc straight, all even slits, mouth piece and stem built heavy with ring accent/reinforcements.I bought it for Solo travel for switching off from PNWT use and it worked great, pipe has a nice feel to it due to its weight and construction,Im thinking if her other hammer is built like this one you cant go wrong. She has others one 10 inch (doesnt look as heavy, but still cant say) and a 6 inch almost the same as the 10 in. but both are 4 arm percs and no ring accents/reinforcements on the stem and MP all in the 16-18$ bracket

* so so vortex = in a 20 second draw you may get 2-3 defined vortexes, the rest were meh,but it was recycling water, which supposedly aids in flavor retention ,it is a little pipe ,much smaller than imagined ,if its diffusion wasnt so scattered or erratic i think it would work well, longer stem/MP in this case would allow for a harder draw which would also aid in the effect and no water boarding while trying to get baked :D

Lol @Dangus joda is my go to guy. I have had an order with him since he first joined us. And it seems like I place another order the second I get mine. I am actually waiting on one this very moment. He probably has not shipped yet and I could add to my order but I kind of need to slow my roll. Been buying a lot of glass lately.

If I find a cheap one of these e cig water pipe adapters somewhere and actually like it I am sure that I will commission one from @VaPeD&CoNfUsEd

Also got my Kathy recycler today. Pretty solid and no obvious flaws. Ideal water level for me seems to be right between the perc and the bottom of the joint. It actually recycles and kinda vortexes when clearing, neither of which I really expected when I ordered it. The pull is pretty effortful (not sure if that's characteristic of recyclers in general, or if it's just this particular piece?) and I occasionally get some splash on my lips when clearing. Overall, not bad for the price.

Water test with nano in place and then clear:

Unrestricted "vortex" close-up:

Connection between the can and the funnel part is slightly offset, and I'm pretty sure that's why this thing vortexes at all. I don't think it was intentional, so Chinese QC appears to have worked in my favor this time :)

I am also pretty sure that is why this one has a little vortex action. I can't wait until they figure out how to get a legit vortex on purpose.

@Frederick McGuire if your clean clear glass recycler didn't have a closed off uptake do you think it would have recycled with vortex? I thought it was the most promising and was really disappointed to hear that you received a defective one. Also any luck getting that sorted out?

Today was apparently Kathy recycler day! I got mine as well. It's super clean with only tiny scratches in the downstem and no flaws or bubbles. It does vortex minimally but not as much as @snackmaster video shows. I need to play with the water levels some more. All I can say for the perc is it is violent. It definitely moves the water. And it's loud. No mistaking that sound. The slits in the perc are flame polished and the joint is very straight. All in all I'm pleased so far. I was able to pull harder than I'd normally clear without taking a drink but I see how a hard pull can make it up to your mouth.

Best day for glass I've ever had. I also got a HT in the mail today from @exit from the classifieds that is soooo nice.

Worst timing though...my EVO went back for repairs this morning. Oh well. The cloud+ has made an appearance after taking a break. I'll be alright...

Quick question.....do they even make the Infamous Bubbler anymore? If I accidentally break the mouthpiece, can it be replaced?

Yup, still available.

If you prefer something more customized, I'm sure that Oregon Glass Blower could help

So you got me looking through pipesdaddy's inventory and found this beuty.

I know it's a bit higher than the threads limit ($140), but maybe someone could pass this on to our dhgate friends, lol

Do you guys think this will recycle well? Looks like the intake to the vortex chamber is at an upward angle but still low enough to suck up some bubbles, idk.

@Tweak, I'm no expert, but I've watched a lot of videos and it seems like 3 important recycler features are
  1. a funnel-shaped vortex chamber
  2. a perc that's above the return from vortex chamber
  3. a feed from the can to the vortex chamber that spits water kinda laterally along the side of the vc and not just directly into the middle of it (this really isn't the best way to describe it, but there was some discussion about it in the doughboy thread)
A piece doesn't necessarily need all those to recycle, but all are needed to produce a good vortex. That piece has 1 and kinda 3, but not 2.

++++1 You are correct, good observations, and you couldnt have said it better.:tup::rockon:.Yu da man Snackie. If your good at relaying info and designs,I have 2 invitations from 2 vendors here that are welcoming designs and be it that you do have quite a knack for it,should seek out some designs and parlay the info over to them and get these guys on track.Your description of what needs to be is whats missing on our import recyclers.Of course no pressure to correct the glowers just make em an offer they cant refuse :goon: ...............:D Any how just wanted to give props for a great analogy of the whats needed / and or whats missing in order to get the visual warm & fuzzy from watching an awesome vortex!!......:peace:

No idea tbh.
I was actually kinda proud of myself for figuring wtf was wrong with it so quickly .

A vortex isn't the most important thing for me in a recycler - so long as the water actually recycles I'm happy.

There's a bit of a saga with the ccg purchase, here's a summary:

- I purchased a mini rig that had an interesting perc - kinda a stemline/matrix hybrid, which is kinda a dream perc for me. Turns out the can is just way too small, ad even without the perc fully submerged I get splashback up in the mouthpiece.
- I contacted ccg and told them the piece was very well made, but not functional by design - they offered me free shipping on my next piece, an I thought that was a fair compromise, given I knew it was a 50/50 chance that the piece wouldn't function well.
- the piece I got as a replacement is that recycler we are talking about, which arrived with a blocked uptake tube.
- I contacted ccg and told them about the piece, and basically said
if I could only get a refund on it I'd be upset,
If he sent out a replacement Id be satisfied but unlikely to shop with them or recommend them to anyone else in the future,
If he sent out a replacement along with another piece at a discount id be happy with the outcome.

So I've offered $70 for the quad showerhead rig and the ccg inline to honeycomb (which is basically the list price with no shipping added) and they are going to send out the replacement recycler along with those 2.
I'm just waiting for them to update the ions to honeycomb to allow shipping to Australia before I can place the order.

--------

Oh, and I couldn't help myself, I ordered that ball rig from the Steven seller (can't remember the dhgate store name ATM) and he messaged me straight away apologizing saying the items in stock weren't up to their quality standards, and offered me a double barrel recycler or 42 "sweet puff" (aka crack) pipes as a replacement - I've already got the double barrel and don't need a crack pipe
I'm gonna wait for them to make up some more - he said approx 10 days wait

I've dropped a decent amount of cash on china glass in the last few months, can't actually remember how many rigs I got - gotta be something like 10 - all for the same price as 1 high quality American piece

Thanks for replying!! @Tweak I wish I could afford a nicer piece of glass, but I can't right now.

Do you know if you can buy just the mouthpiece?

Thanks for the response @Frederick McGuire

Sucks that the ball rig was of poor quality but at least they didn't waste your time sending you a janky piece. I really want one of those but have been holding out hoping another member would post a review. Please keep me updated on you getting your replacement recycler and that ball rig, thanks
Yeah, that actually makes me want to check out the store. I can really respect a seller who's willing to lose business to make sure the customer gets the best product.

I've seen them available elsewhere, but for the same price or more as the whole Infamous Bubbler, $40.

I remember Sheldon Black sells them, but @ $50 a pop, ouch.

Ouch is right! I hate that they make the mouthpiece separate, and replaceable, but don't have it more available and for a more reasonable cost. :(

@Vicki I would really consider going with @VaPeD&CoNfUsEd if I were you. It is not going to be as cheap as China glass but I assure you it is still a very good deal. Add in the fact that you have the option to truly customize is hard to pass. Even if you don't want color work you can still get the length, angle, and mouthpiece made exactly how you want. It could bring new life to your beloved bubbler

It sounds nice, but it depends on the price.

Hey thanks

We (ie, followers of this thread) should pool our efforts to describe/illustrate those things in a clear and kinda open-ended way.

Dangus

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I too got the Kathy Ratchet Recycler yesterday. I think I got lucky because I get a pretty decent vortex :whoa:

Perhaps it's the low restriction of the LSV? Anyhow, they pair up very nicely.

Here's a video (Halfway through there is a better closeup)

I also got this mini yesterday - I might like it more than this one now...but it's a bit early to say. I mainly like that the mouthpiece is a bit longer/farther away from the nail, which makes it a bit easier on my eyes.

Cheers
