What bad luck I just had. After q-tipping my sapphire insert I noticed some fluff in there and thought it went into the intake. Wanting to get it out quickly I added a bit a reverse pressure to the bubbler to try to puff it out. Apparently I added too much and water started to pour into the bucket and sizzle like mad. I knew exactly what that meant and that there was nothing I could do to stop it. I looked in after and sure enough it looked like someone had struck the insert with a hammer :o. It popped out intact but it's ruined now. Not sure yet if I'll replace it or not. I've got the SiC as well so I'm not dead in the water.

Ugh bro I cringed when I read this! So sorry to read it! Damn! As someone who has had broken sapphire before, you have my commiserations!

I learn from all my tragic lessons and stupid mistakes, just would have been nice to have had more time with it. The insert should withstand a bit more than D-Nail's due to its design but otherwise most of their care instructions should apply.

It should only happen to people once, either because they can't afford to replace it or they're extra careful if they do.

Agreed bro, you know I've said for a very long time that under no circumstances would I allow water to hit my hot sapphire nail (neither the Liger nor D-nail sapphire!). Thermal shock is the main weakness of sapphire compared to other materials. If there is no thermal shock exposure nor just plain old physical impact to the dish, it should be safe.

You could not have more accurately summarized the position we find ourselves in when we break sapphire than you did above lol, man am I fucking careful with anything sapphire after the first one!

I'm about to check out the SiC insert for the first time myself actually, I switched to SiC for moral support bro, I gotcha back lol! ;)

First impressions on SiC insert:

Haven't got temp ideally dialled in yet, I tried a dab of full melt at 610f. Tasty, but nowhere near as nice as sapphire at 620-640f. The insert also seems noticeably smaller than the titanium banger and really rattles about in there when qtipping and applying the dab. It is kind of unnerving hearing the clinking noise when this happens! I have to keep reminding myself that it is not quartz lol.

Taste reminds me of my SiC halo, again I think the differences here are minimal aside from form factor, but I'll keep trying it out for a little while to get a better chance to form an opinion.

Second thoughts: I jacked the temp up a little to around 640f, got one of those huge thick whitewall rips we all know and love from SiC nails. Delicious taste, not as good as sapphire, but better than 610f (go figure!). Definitely enjoying this one, rattling is my only gripe (not a huge one, it isn't exactly fragile lol). Cannot fault anything else about it, tastes every bit as great as the SiC halo but with a much bigger dish for those who want to dab big or really see the hit and get great pictures of it :D

Haha thanks bud! I took a closer look at it and most of the cracks are internal but it's not usable anymore. I'll try to get a pic up later.

There must be some minor variance in the inserts since my SiC is actually a bit tight and the sapphire was looser. As long as the Ti is built to spec you could maybe get a second one and ask him to check the fit first. Mine got a bit stuck but I just needed to rock it a bit and it popped out.

So I'm really starting to milk it now around 640F. I start with a minimal draw and zig-zag my dabber across the surface, then cap it and inhale hard. With use my hurricane now has a bit of a reclaim film which is actually giving me a better seal so there's some incentive not to keep it too clean.

I've also been using my D-Nail fork dabber mainly since it's longer. While it does screw in enough, you need to be careful not to turn it the wrong way since it won't take much for it to fall to the ground.

I'm so sorry! At least Thermal Shock doesn't effect the SiC like it does the sapphire. I wonder if it would still work until it falls apart? I noticed some of the cracked Halo users were able to still dab off of theirs for a short time until it fell apart. Is yours still in 1 piece?

Is there a timeline for the Storm Cell caps?

Umm, kinda? I have them all and I could line them up for you. The Gen 1 is at my sisters, it has the Ghetto font Script CCA on it  (Old Logo) and then while there were only a few production versions after that there were several Betas in between as well.

Here are some of the old guys from Gen 1-Gen 2.5 . No Honey hole cap in the pic since it never went into production, but is was a cool idea.

And Gen 3's here

If it were still perfectly smooth and completely internal I'd try it but it's not so I'm not comfortable using it and possibly risking it getting stuck. I'm also thinking it may affect thermal conductivity too.

I think he meant the timeline for shipping, but it's cool to see them all lined up like that.

I was told to expect my SiC insert somtime next week. Josh said the storm cell might not be finished in time for that to arrive in the same package so I would guess at least 1-2weeks on storm cells

Sapphire Powered Dabstronaut.
Bit the bullet and ordered a new sapphire insert, didn't want to wait as I can see them selling out if I do. I can already see this replacing my D-Nail Halo for everyday use so I should be able to get my use out of it barring another incident.

Since you have another on the way ... did you take a picture of the fallen warrior?

Way to go

Agreed.

I'd do the same bro, can't do without sapphire! Do you still have your sapphire halo in the meantime while you wait for that shipping? I can't remember lol

Still have it but with the SiC insert I don't feel a need to hook it up.

Here they are. Nearly all the cracks are internal but they go almost all the way through.

Holy shit bro, you didn't do a half-assed job breaking that one!

Probably still usable but I would be hesitant too. If it breaks up more, you might be sucking broken bits of sapphire into your rig (which are bio-compatible; as much as razor sharp, harder than glass - also harder than a boro rig, yikes - shards of sapphire can be).

I pointed mine at a light and looked for light seeping through and the single hole for me is the second from the left which seems to be the tightest draw for me. So for those whose draw is loose you may want to double check the exact alignment for you start playing with toothpicks.

Lol im ngl... I thought you were tripping till i tested my flow adjuster with a light and realized the order of holes open for mine is also 4-1-2-3

Liger... why do you make it harder for us to figure you out?!? Lmao I swear its like a little puzzle, with the reward being a nice dab :ko:

my condolences for your insert btw. I would've been devastated lol
