Agreed bro, you know I've said for a very long time that under no circumstances would I allow water to hit my hot sapphire nail (neither the Liger nor D-nail sapphire!). Thermal shock is the main weakness of sapphire compared to other materials. If there is no thermal shock exposure nor just plain old physical impact to the dish, it should be safe.
You could not have more accurately summarized the position we find ourselves in when we break sapphire than you did above lol, man am I fucking careful with anything sapphire after the first one!
I'm about to check out the SiC insert for the first time myself actually, I switched to SiC for moral support bro, I gotcha back lol!
First impressions on SiC insert:
Haven't got temp ideally dialled in yet, I tried a dab of full melt at 610f. Tasty, but nowhere near as nice as sapphire at 620-640f. The insert also seems noticeably smaller than the titanium banger and really rattles about in there when qtipping and applying the dab. It is kind of unnerving hearing the clinking noise when this happens! I have to keep reminding myself that it is not quartz lol.
Taste reminds me of my SiC halo, again I think the differences here are minimal aside from form factor, but I'll keep trying it out for a little while to get a better chance to form an opinion.
Second thoughts: I jacked the temp up a little to around 640f, got one of those huge thick whitewall rips we all know and love from SiC nails. Delicious taste, not as good as sapphire, but better than 610f (go figure!). Definitely enjoying this one, rattling is my only gripe (not a huge one, it isn't exactly fragile lol). Cannot fault anything else about it, tastes every bit as great as the SiC halo but with a much bigger dish for those who want to dab big or really see the hit and get great pictures of it
