I too have had lock-up before with my Ligers. Pliers with electrical tape or a cloth over the ends worked great and kept the pliers from marking up the Liger.
I now make sure to barely tighten the parts back together not near as snug as I use to do. I've even had the bottom puck that holds the coil cover cement in place on me too. Crazy!

My Obsidian came today, number sweet 16. The unpolished portion looks very similar to the SiC, the inside is a highly reflective silver/silicon color (like a bright black-chrome). Dabs look like they're glowing on it! I've only used it a few times, but the flavor is amazing!! (I don't have Sapphire to compare)
Mine weighs in at 11.4g compared to 11 for my SiC. Dish temperatures are very similar for both. With my Hex-Nail at 525F(coil) I measure the dish to be at 440-450F, about 0-5°F higher than my SiC insert.

I got #21. Buy it from me for only $300. Buy now because it will be $500 next year.
EDIT: Cleaning done, heating up to 570 now. I normally dab at 580 on SIC.
EDIT 2: Could be placebo and just wanting to enjoy my new toy, but good first impression! Dab vaped fully and perhaps even a bit faster than the sic @580. The surface is definitely better for looking at the dab. (30mm) I feel like I can see way more color in the puddle and bubbles as the dab is first melting for some reason.

I didn't get my liger today (sadface). I hope it's not lost! Last update was at distribution center near my place this morning and today was scheduled delivery date.

So right off it looks and feel almost exactly like a good polished "tier 1" SIC dish, the engraving is clean and cute for sure. Tastewise I'm on dab 6 and Im pretty locked in that its not as clean and dry as sapphire, and truth be told, strictly from taste and mouth feel I don't think i could pick it out vs the "Tier 1" SIC. The polish on it is on point though, better than any example of the SIC dishes Ive seen and that lends to super super SUPER easy clean up. Ive tried 2 types of rosin, a wax, a budder, a shatter and 2 ties of distillates and everything cleaned up with 1.5 qtips, Ive kept temps around what i rocked the SIC at 480-510 for now and it seems to be right inline with the performance of the SIC as far as melting and making nucleate sites of sublimation.
All in all night 1 opinion is it isn't as pure as saph but it has the ease of cleaning and durability of SIC.
It might be an evolution of SIC and is indeed "better" but I can't say an addition $40 better but since the SIC dishes are no longer a thing from CCA Id still say its the goto insert for 95% of dabbers over the quartz or the saph.

How do you know if you have a "Tier one" SiC dish? Mine definitely didn't have that mirror finish where I could see my reflection like some of the other posters reported. Ive seen a picture of how polished those dishes were, and I for sure can't see my ugly mug in mine. Does this mean I have a "lesser" dish? Id think the latest dishes would be the best ones but maybe not?

My original OG SIC looks a lot like the SIC from the Halo, slightly rough and maybe a bit porous looking. It has a milling pattern on the inside of the dish that looks a bit like sacred g or seed of life type stuff, its actually really pretty and i may snap a pic at some point. My newer SICs look like tiny poorly polished mirrors with a very reflective and shiny polished surface, like the pics of the obsidian but not as well done.
Its odd after reading D-nails tech brief on nucleate vaporization and nucleation sites, and how their wik surface was such a game changer (makes jerk off motion), id expect the older, rougher SIC to have a noted better output of clouds but really they are about even and the polished SIC is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH (cannot be overstated enough with rosins) easier to clean then the already easy to clean SIC, and it also tends to splash over the insert into the bucket a lot less if I'm being careless.
TLDR
if your dish looks vitreous, or glass like, then its prolly "tier 1"

I want and will buy a Sapphire dish but was waiting for this obsidian dish reviews to decide if I should buy sapphire or obsidian first. But from your review, sapphire is on deck. Just gotta see if the sapphire will be a halo or insert.

Im gonna give my rig a good rinse and clean the liger itself a little later today and ill give it a real taste test with some live nectars and resins, some terp sauces and some cbd seven star and Ill figure out if its notably "tastier" than SIC.
As far as the saph goes I personally like the Halo better, but ill be honest the visual of chasing your dab with your cap is a lot of the appeal over the Liger insert which IMO does reveal more flavors, even if its at the sake of the Halos much larger vapor volume and close to as much flavor. For your driver though it'll for sure be the Obsidian, the sapphire on both the insert and the dish are slightly porous, I think this is due to the sintering of oxide powder in the manufacturing process, so they both soak up certain materials and get kinda ugly until you heat clean them with a >900 coil for a while. The Halo tends to soak them up much faster and rosins and certain fell melts are really bad, a heat clean does clear it right up though, but the Obsidian is a Honey Badger and don't care, takes it all and wipes clean, plus id have no worry about taking a torch to the Obsidian till it was white hot to bring it back to new condition with zero ill effect due to its no doubt insanely high temp tolerance just like SIC.
Im stoked your kitty is finally close to its new home, Im interested to see it work with that Baby Jesus and Brickstack

After two dabs of the liger. Dammit I'm sold. Duck! Now I have to get both sapphires insert and halo. I was really hoping that this liger wasn't much different than the D-Nail but it seems smoother and tastier than my D-Nail slim base and SiC Halo. Both dabs, I didn't even finish the vape which shocked me. But I may be sucking air to soon. I'll be a veteran at this by tomorrow. Carb cap works great too but it's tough to spin as it feels like it's sucked suction tight on the liger.
The SiC insert was easy to clean. But I totally understand what others said about it spinning while qt'ing.
Also, this thing is heavy as hell. Holy shit batman, this thing tipped my baby Jesus over and over. Took me 3 mins to find a spot to keep it up right. Having the newvape enail handle I'm sure adds to the weight too.
Well. I'm excited for Liger 4.0 and will be on board to order that and will be buying the sapphire insert since their is only about 15 left next week. I'm sure it will still take a month to get even though it's in stock but it's not like the dude has any competition and we just deal with it. At least now, I have the Newvape Flowerpot to turn too and spend my money. They got really nice stuff and I get my order in 3 days which is fantastic. The under promise and over deliver. The D-Nail slim base will be in the draw until I get the sapphire halo.

Following the SiC delays earlier this year leading into the introduction of "Tier 1", I kinda felt rushed out the door after something slightly better than the first acceptable batch of SiC was available. Obsidian might not be worth the upgrade if you have the Tier 1 SiC, but I'm most likely ditching the old fractal patterns.

The SiC i just received is the mirror/glossy finish or what you call tier 1. Nothing like the D-nail SiC Halo surface. They almost look like two different materials minus the color.
Two days with the 30mm Liger with SiC (@500F) and it has been my go to nail over the D-Nail (actually put this in the draw for now) and Flowerpot w/Dnail SiC. I am more of a concentrate man but the flowerpot is pretty awesome and will be getting the Showerpot. I dont know if its just the honeymoon stage im in with this Liger but I am loving it completely that i just ordered the Sapphire insert only after two days.
Compared to the D-Nail SiC, the Liger with SiC is smoother, tastier and makes me cough less. I get pretty big hits but I am having a hard time turning the Tsunami carb cap to get all areas vaped. As i am pulling air, i have to pause, lift cap, turn cap and drop cap back on top and continue until im out of breath. In two days of heavy usage burning through 2 grams of Raw Garden's new Sauce which is so tasty and stoney and at a great price of $35 a gram, but i havent been able to take a full solid rip as i would on the Dnail SiC due to the pauses to rotate the cap and its frustrating. Will the Hurricane or any of the glass mushroom carb caps fix this issue?

They seem to ship all their orders at once. Basically consolidate their shipping to 1 or two shipments a month. When i received my tracking number for my last order last week, so did many others. The weeks before, i did not hear anyone receiving any tracking or deliveries.
I just ordered a Sapphire insert which shouldnt have to be machined and is an off the shelve item. I am curious to see how long this will take to ship.

The Tsunami is like that, super good seal but makes spinning tough, I've started doing a edge rolling motion where i lift it up ever so slightly and roll, not spin, it around the bucket, almost like stirring tea I guess. The only cap that has ever put the Liger in the same volume conversation as the Halos is the Wierdeer mushroom/titty cap, It makes both 20 and 30 give more clouds than anything else I've seen for the Liger, in person or online....still not quite Halo with the V2 levels but pretty close.
Ive ordered just caps and dabbers, silver, from them before and have had actual package movement in less than 5 days, and if the new stock level indicators are to be believed, like you say, it should be off the shelf.
So you're gonna skip Obsidian for now then? Since you have a "tier 1" I can't blame you, esp with a saph on its way.
I don't think it is monthly, there was a delay with the 20mm Obsidian getting the parts in (10/7). Flat coil shipped last week (10/9) and the 20mm Obsidian should be shipping this week.

I guarantee that you will have an easier time using a bubble-style cap. Ever since I ditched the ChadBro (which you have to spin) for my Wierdeer, I haven't looked back.

Do you think if they angled the hole like the d-nail V2, it would fix it? cuz this cap would be awesome if it could get all the material in this very large dish.
No, i will still get the obsidian but i moved it down my to get list as its similar to the SiC insert i received. I am thinking Xmas time for the obsidian. I still need the Sapphire Halo and a bunch of Newvape stuff. Another reason i pulled the trigger for the Sapphire insert was due to CCA showing only 14 left in stock and i didnt want my Liger to spend Xmas alone with SiC.
Good to know that its possible that i can get the sapphire insert in a week. Gives me hope to know i may vape on sapphire by Halloween! My mouth waters just thinking about it.
BTW is there any Liger stands? like if you were to switch nails to a Halo and you Liger is HOT, what do you do with it? I have a metal mininail stand that's basically a bent flat metal with a v-cut on top. It works great for the Dnail Slim base since its light weight but with the Liger, it just drops to the table cuz of the weight.
