Ordered a factory second in stock 14.11 and shipped 16.11. Looks like some are ready to ship immediately. In case some people are waiting because of the text about 6-8 weeks shipping time

Yes all factory seconds ship right away, that estimate is just for new (made to) orders

I was still holding out hope to be able to get the polished SS version in whatever size with fine plate at some point, or even medium plate maybe, BCG had told me they would send me one free of charge over a year ago since I bought so many aluminum seconds at the time and was chatting with them on Instagram... Well following up there, I don't know if someone else is running it, but they've totally ignored me... I also tried emailing, was just trying to get clarity, because the last time I spoke to them they assured me I was still getting one, but I knew they had all those pre-orders to fulfill... Tried reaching out specifically because I heard the polished was not going to be made anymore, and wanted to be sure that was the one I could get, wondering if I would be better off trying to order it instead? They never replied to anything so I guess they don't care lol Oh well I don't really need it I suppose anyway

yes same, did wait for one whole year and they still dont offer the polished version.. i wonder why they dont delete this option from the website?

I just impulsively purchased a large BCG with medium plate after looking elsewhere at new grinders for months and never finding one that I'm completely happy with so I've carried on using a 6 year old grinder that does need replacing.

The size looks just right so I'm really hoping this BCG is as good as the reviews and comments make out as I really need a good new grinder.

BCG grinders are pretty much universally loved so you're not taking much of a chance. Occasionally someone will suggest they like their OMD or some other great grinder better for some reason (like the grip), but the vast majority have no complaints. Were it not for the cost, I would likely get a SS BCG grinder rather than leave the brand if I thought I needed an upgrade.

Well I'd been wanting one of these for several years, but since I moved to an illegal state hadn't bothered. Now I'm back in a legal state and went ahead and bought one off the seconds page. That doesn't save you all THAT much money but it does seem to get the product in your hands quicker.

I'm older and my hands are not very strong, despite the fact that I'm a potter. Different muscle groups I guess. Anyway. I'd heard a lot about how easy these are to use.

Not so much. I honestly don't see a lick of difference between this and the cheapo grinder I got off Amazon 10 years ago. Not in turning/grinding ease at least. It IS easier to deal with the magnetic closure, but for some reason I have the devil of a time getting the grinder piece off the bottom to actually access the ground flower. Top comes right off the grinder part, but I struggle with the bottom.

At any rate, no easier to turn than my older grinder. In fact it is a little harder to use - getting it started is a real issue. Once it gets going it goes quick but I struggle to get it going. Probably easier to clean, almost certainly, but I haven't used it enough yet to need cleaning.

Also the bottom is too smooth to be able to get a good grip on it when I'm trying to grind. It just slips right through my hands. That's probably the biggest factor in getting it going, not being able to get a good grip on it. Top too, really.

Its pretty. The magnet closures are 50/50 = top works great, struggle with the bottom to get it open.

But its no easier to actually use than my cheapo Amazon probably Chinese grinder, and certainly NOT worth the price. Let alone the wait, if you don't want to go with a factory reject.

OH and BTW, those 3 grades of grinder? Fine, Medium, Coarse? I can't tell a lick of difference between them. If there's much of a difference, its a very subtle one. The medium seems fine to me, the fine seems about the same, and the "coarse" is only very slightly less fine than the medium. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have just got a coarse screen and have done with it.

Actually if I knew then what I know now, I'd not have bought it at all, LOL! Really don't see why this is so popular. They are pretty, but I really wanted something easier to use than what I already had. This isn't it.

My experience is generally different than yours. If I am using very firm buds, and I am what I consider over filling the grinder, I can struggle with getting it to turn. But with only a couple very firm buds or nearly full of regular strength buds (ha), I have a much easier time with my large BCG starting or just grinding than I had with any previous grinder over the last several decades. I was actually so surprised at the difference when I bought my "second quality" grinder that I immediately bought a second one for another old guy buddy of mine because he didn't believe my description, and he was equally amazed.
I can't comment on the different plates because I have only ever had a medium plate, but in terms of the turnability of this grinder I found it better than any of my past grinders including a couple name brands. My best suggestion for a better experience is to only put a few buds in it at a time. My older hands that tend to cramp at times seem to have a much better time with this grinder than all the other grinders I have used, so I am a fan.
While the idea that it never needs to be cleaned which some have promoted doesn't reflect my experience, all the other hype this grinder gets I do agree with. I find it easier to use and more consistent than any of my previous grinders.

There's another popular high end threadless SS grinder from the company Old Mate Designs. It's called the Aroma 3. The top section is a little squared off, which makes it easier to grip, from what I understand, and it also has a bearing to make the turning of the grinder smoother. If my hands continue to get worse over time, this may be an alternative I can try, though it is basically out of my price range for now. Necessity of course makes that price range somewhat fluid.

So my suggestion would be try just a bud or two at a time and see if you have a better experience than a fully covered plate. If you have tried that and it didn't make it easier for you, then I really don't know what to suggest other than the OMD.

SEARCH for the treasure...
The 3-Plates on both my small & large aluminum BCG’s produce exactly what they are drilled for. Bovida 62%.
Super sticky stuff, just don’t overload the grinder. Even when doing smaller amounts, I underload, and do two grind sessions.
Must be your weed….

Agreed, technique can help lessen, but not solve the hard start of a BCG. I prefer the regular size, but the larger is easier to turn, and has some larger “loading zones” between teeth that help to reduce the binding to begin with.

That said, the Old Mate definitely offers a better purchase on the lid to aid in getting started, plus the bearing means there is no friction loss so only buds binding in the teeth will slow it down.

I agree that the plates tend to produce generally similar grinds. This is one of the reasons I recommend against fine plates; you can get any grind size including powdery fine grind with a coarse plate by grinding upside down; a fine or medium cannot physically produce a coarser cut.

Well, they actually can, if you grind a bit then open on the table and brush in, instead of fully grinding... Similar to using another plate and grinding upside down longer than you would, you're grinding shorter this way... Any plate can be versatile, that's why I still don't regret only buying one when I started, of course I ended up buying the other plates with complete other grinders later anyway lol but I only need one, though I do use a few

I had trouble with the bottom part too, but then I realized that if grab the top and middle with one hand, and the bottom with the other, and use the base of my thumbs (the big round bit that connects the thumb to the hand) as leverage and then it's easy.

Sometimes I have pain in my finger joints and if I put too much flower in at one time, the first 2 turns can be harder than I'd like. So in those cases I put the palm of one hand against the very bottom, and the palm of the other hand on the top, and push while twisting. That gets the job done without having to grip it.

I never put in a lot at one time any more and love everything about this grinder, more than every other grinder I've own over the decades of using grinders. That doesn't mean it's for everyone, but I think once you get used to it, I'm sure you will love never (or almost never) having to clean it, or getting messed up threads and not being able to close it because of the gunk in the threads.

One is orienting the unit differently during operation, the other is essentially just using some teeth to tear apart the bud a tiny bit and then adding a bunch of mess.

Like, if you drop a Prius out of an aircraft at 35,000’ it’s going to get going really really fast before it slams into the ground. This test does not confirm that the Prius is a really really fast car.

K, you had said "it physically can't produce a coarser cut" and that is not accurate :2c::peace:

Since it was only an order on a wait-list item, I bet they would let you buy a second instead.
yes but it would be good to know how much the stainless steel costs as a factory second. i bought a new one on cybermonday but these were probably only released afterwards

I believe Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals both gave 20% off.
yes and i know that because i bought one at the time. what i'm interested in now is how much the stainless steel cost as a factory second without the 20% discount and whether it was worth it for me.

Well, if they're internally consistent, the current aluminum seconds are 20% off the retail price so that would make the SS seconds about $176.

Found a terrible way to clean my xl.
Freshly grind a few big nugs
Open the grinder
Let it slip out of your hands and hit a concrete floor from around 4 feet.
Retrieve empty and spotless grinder.
Cry over spilt perfect fluffy grind that is now mixed in with whatever is on my garage floor.
