Battery Free Ganz - The Flare Induction heater

I know it's good advice to use an external charger, but I've been using the device's USB-c port instead. Recently, after a few months of doing this, I noticed the batteries will not charge this way any more, but only externally. The animation for charging still plays on the flare. I don't have enough batteries to test if it's the batteries or device yet. Anyone else experience issues with the device charging batteries?
I’ve had issues with mine from the start. It always reads as full (like Flow above) and requires me to plug and unplug a number of times to get it to read less than full and start charging. Only charged via device. Original 3 m28’s batts. Tried various cables and 2 and 1 amp usb chargers.

I really need to buy an external charger. Recommendations? In Canada btw.

I’ve been using a couple of Efest (LUC models) for years. They’re great! Their batteries though, are not. Avoid those ;)
Thanks! I see there is a 6 bay version.

That brings up something I don’t understand (hopefully not requiring a new thread elsewhere) - How to deal with a 3 bay device when one is apparently supposed to charge in pairs? I’ve been charging the 3 Molicel P28’s in the Flare since new, but a 4th has been collecting dust.

You’ll be charging in triplets, using the same 3 batteries at a time in the device , each time. Doesn’t matter when they’re charged (separately if needed). So you’d need 6 batteries to have a backup set.

Is it not behind the battery cover? A small rectangular magnet just above or below where the batteries go? If not I used a flathead screwdriver until I realised the magnet under the cover.

Tempest is now officially not compatible.
"We have discontinued support due to overheating"

No mention if the stunner is affected, but TA is not.

A new version will sort the issues.

My personal view, i brought a device i was hoping would be the only induction heater i needed. I have had to buy a wand for the Tempest. The flare has been disappointing, i hope there is an upgrade program.

I hope it too.
It is great for some vapes like the fusion, armored cap, hyperdyn (even if I dont like it)... But the limitation i get when i try to use the tempest, convector xl or anvil is dispointing. I think a lot of people expected an IH for, almost, every vape.

I don´t think they changed the actual flare firmware to stop working with the TA or tempest, I´m sure they stop recommending it for those devices.

This is not the first time an initial release BFG product has had problems. The Fusion 1 cap click was way out, fixed in 2.0.

The lesson i have learnt, wait till the 2nd version with BFG products.

Perhaps i need to tame my excitement next time.

P.S. I love my fusion 2.0

So this is presumably a HW upgrade, my assumption on purchase was that any changes would come by way of a FW upgrade through the USB port. Device does not work well with tempest, tornado rather disappointing

Yes The Flare is variable with the Tempest. Doesn't produce consistent results, but sometimes it's perfect. But what's wrong with the Flare and the TA. I picked up a TA after learning about the disappointments with the Tempest. The Flare is very consistent with the TA3. 120W and 35 seconds will go right up to that "vestratto" level for me. 31-32 seconds leave just a bit more flavor and is where I like to go with good bud. My TA3 on a Rainbow Glass Revolve Stem is one of my favorite ways to consume...

Disappointed to say that after near daily use since release. My flare not longer heats, the display turns on, and I can use the controller, but the timer never starts and no heat is ever produced. I've contacted BFG, and they told me to go through the seller, waiting on that.
Im having the same issue with mine. Reached out to BFG but no response yet. Did the seller take care of you?

These are back in stock at rec vapes now. I thought this run was done and the next batch would be improved and tested before going up for sale?

Maybe it’s older stock that BFG sent them. Perhaps I’ll give Matt an email and ask what’s up. I want a flare but I’m not sure I want to buy if it’s the older model some have had issues with.

Same. There seem to be a few issues with this version so I’m inclined to wait for v2. One day we’ll have a single induction heater to power them all.

This is the old version.
  • Not compatible with the Tempest or Stunner - a future version will (theoretically) be available some time next year which will be
I asked BFG if the Stunner was compatible on IG. Did not get an answer.

Have used the Stunner in the flare and could not see any issues. Guess i wont risk it anymore.

So TA should work. But what if boro balls are swapped for zirc ones? Could that be an issue for Flare as more power is needed to heat it?

To the folk who's flares have stopped working, were yous using just the fusion 2.0 of were yous using other vapes aswell? The flare was originally designed for bfg products only, I wonder if using other vapes with it has caused some folks devices to get damaged and that's what's maybe causing some of the power issues folk are talking about.

I've almost exclusively used a BFG Fusion for the life of my Flare. I tried the TA3 twice, but decided I liked it better with the Inductor.

So I snagged a Flare in the Black Friday sales from RVS in the uk. It’s smaller than I expected and feels well designed. A few issues though.

My fusion v1 only gets to 65w and doesn’t always recognise when it’s inserted. Don’t know why. Annoying.

It wouldn’t charge batteries from flat. Had to charge them a bit externally before they would charge in the device. The charger might be a weak point.

The poker (little pipe) doesn’t go deep enough to properly heat it. Clicks quickly and I’d be worried about damaging the click disc if I did the full 45 seconds. This is despite their instagram recommending poker with the flare.

Apart from those gripes it works well. Not as well as a big torch but a lot easier. I saw (a little too late) that there’s an updated version on the bfg site and they have a Black Friday deal but no details about what has been updated. Also have no idea what warranty this has - they could really do with including a manual.
