I enjoyed my Ascent a lot the last few weeks, the only annoyance I had with it is getting bits of herb into my mouth but that was quickly resolved
I've never been a fan of glass screens and prefer a fine metal one but couldn't get one to properly fit over the bottom of the stem and I didn't want to put one on my load each time.
Apologies if this was already mentioned, I was not able to find a mentioned of this using the search
I've taken the screen from a spare glass lined PnP mouthpiece I had laying around, it's a perfect fit for the top of the Ascent stem.
I will still get some plant matter in the Glass tube so I'll have to clean it so the Airflow doesn't get restricted but I don't think it's a lot more than most vapes with a screen
I imagine this can be made yourself using the correct size screen and doming it, it just seemed impossible for me to get it domed and going in properly, these screens were a perfect fit
And @Ratchett, great work on the docking station, it makes using this vape even better
So I rethought my top screen bowl, and moved right below the glass screen.
Used a 3/4" extra fine mesh screen and cut it out into an oval, about 1/8" bigger than the glass filter's circumference.
Bent it around the edges and stuck it in, and not one bit of finely ground herbs has gotten into either stem.
Interesting idea. I'd be a little concerned closing and more importantly opening the door. If that screen got caught up in the seal area it's gonna win against the rubber?

I hope you have a few spare inner glass stems! Those suckers can fall apart in your hands without any effort.
You might want to consider a set of wood stems from @Ed's TnT - if I'm not mistaken his inner stem can replace the glass filter stem. AND it has a SS screen installed for better filtering of debris
Here is a screen in the upper chamber of the Ascent. I have it wedged inside. Easy enough to get out. It above the door.
I can recall people complaining that they would crumble after an ISO soak... WTF?
That's not entirely accurate. Has nothing to do with the soak (or ISO) per se. In my experience, has more to do with what one does *during* the soak (or any handling).
I agree. When I went to school glass didn't degrade in alcohol. In fact it's stored and shipped in glass for just that reason (to keep it chemically pure).
OTOH, when you're fiddling around with it, outside the protection of the Ascent, that's when the highest risk is I think? In addition to all else, it's likely to be slippery then as well......
Plastics can, of course, be a problem here, but AFAIK glass is inert WRT ISO.

I should retract that statement that I made about glass crumbling.
Done!
Naw, good discussion followed. At least I think it was informative......

Well... I have not been following this thread for a while. I just wanted to let anyone know who may be following, that I received a replacement Ascent today. I was surprised to see the US mail on a Sunday. It has been around 3 weeks (I think) since I sent my unit in for inspection. It appears that DaVinci went all out & sent me a new first quality unit, plus new glass. I was not expecting the glass, so that was a pleasant surprise. I have the unit charging now & have not messed with it other than to plug it in.
Is there any special break in procedures that you guys have discovered?
Or just plug it in for 5 hours & use it?
Thank you DaVinci & everyone who was involved.
Hey Ratchett,Well to be fair, it was an ISO soak for like 3 weeks straight in 91%, but yes, it shouldn't crumble apart simply while rinsing off the ISO in a sink with lukewarm tap water!
