Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

This thing gives nothing (practically nothing, tufts of tiny farts even when shotgunned out the reverse side)all the way to 430F, that's not a good sign, but I wanted to try several ways of getting the vape to work before making a stink about it.

i don't believe this is an accurate way to tell if this works and here is my reasoning for thinking that. after many test of my own, i know if the puck (packed herb in the bowl) raises off the bottom of the bowl up to the glass screen vapor production diminishes till non existent. once pushed back down to the bottom of the bowl, vapor production returns.

SOOOOO..... if you are blowing through the grill it will push the puck to top of the bowl and vapor production will stop and nothing will blow out the other end. and believe me.... it does not take too much force (or suction from the mouthpiece) to raise the puck off the bottom of the bowl.

Another reason the oil jar with holes in the bottom works so well as a spacer.

Yeah, and I love my deep hits, so I want to be sure. I'll give it one more run with super light inhale on a decent puck. I really appreciate the help. I've been following this since Feb and reading all you guys silently not making an account here yet till now.

I let it go after some months as I just couldn't wait. I needed it for medical use mainly, not just fun. I bought a Volcano and just decided when Davinci has an opening I'll give them a shot all the same.

Then got an email from Davinci that my turn to purchase was finally available, bought it asap the moment the time slot opened that they told me I was up for, and here I am.

I had to find something I could use for emergencies while traveling and when needed at work, and this device seemed perfect. If it will actually work, and work right. lol

If you can, just run to a kraft store or hobby lobby and buy some glass beads. Cost is a few bucks. Tightly pack your bowl and drop some beads in on top. This will keep the load down. Sometimes even a tight pack and a very light draw will still pull the load up. Good luck.

Yeah, blowing down into it, it vapes clearly at least somewhat out the grill, nothing but jack and shit when I pull, even slow just after a few actual first slow puffs that did give some fair feel, then as it got further into the temp and after a few draws it fades into the same nothing before, this is quite frustrating, and again another bowl pretty much gone, but this time got a little more than nothing before it refused to hit anymore, again...

See I run it from 334-430 as I know it vapes best on a sliding scale between a few tokes, I would be using the timed trio settings if this was functional. However, if this is what the issue is this needs to have something like that or the glass container idea available or just implemented into the next update, and I may have a bowl eating paperweight until I can get to a craft shop, if that is indeed the issue entirely.

Hmm, I better send mine back then, it cooks the hell out of everything, small packed bowls, loose bowls, fresh, previously vaped stuff, I've been trying everything I can think of to get it to give an actual vape and all I get is piss poor farts of vape and my stuff burnt to almost black at 430F. Not happy so far at all, paid for overnight priority, and just had it one day and a half so far.

If your load is "burnt to almost black" then the Ascent is heating up adequately. The vapour must have gone somewhere. From what you've described, it seems that the problem is your technique.

I hooked up with mvapes last night and we ran a load through this thing. I put a decent dose in between layers of hemp. At 195C I don't see much vapor, but at 205 it kicks in good. We finished at the top end of 221. I finish all my loads on high with this thing and it cooks it more completely than the preproduction model. The bottom gets a little hotter than the other one as well. But the seals are tighter and I think my sweet spot with this vape will be between 205 and 215. It feels like it gets hotter at the upper end than before, so an improvement for you upper temp vapers.

I'm gonna get some glass beads, because I think the hemp changes the flavor, which is a shame with a vape that tastes as good as this one. We were getting Solo type bellows out of the Ascent last night. Hitting it is a little different. You need to pace your draw...slower is better. And it needs about ten to fifteen seconds between big hits to get clouds.

I have also been finishing my loads at max temp. All of my spent loads are a very consistent dark brown. No signs of charring at all. Much darker than the Iolite or MFLB ever produced for me.

Has anyone figured out a good "speed (re)loading" method for this yet?

HAHAHA!!! i wish!!! between the inability of the unit to stand on it's own, the tiny glass flowers i use as spacers, and my big fingers trying to get the glass flowers in the right way...... it takes me FOREVER to load a bowl. this thing could use some sort of ELB/Bullet (sorry TRVB and VXL for using your products as a refrence) to make loading/reloading easier. Heck..... if the there was a way i could just load a lil bit and i had a simpler spacer/reducer that i could just plop on top (without trying to be precise like i do with the tiny glass flowers) it would be 10x quicker/easier to load.

B.T.W.... the tiny glass flowers with the pointy stems do work very well (better than my experiment with cotton and way better than no spacer/reducer at all), but i have noticed that the straight "stem" my glass flowers had is bending some... so the Ascent bowl is getting the load hot enough to make the glass stem soft and can be bent.

I just ordered my ascent and it should be coming in a few days I hope. Quick question though. Is there any way to use the balloon method with this vape? Always wanted to try that.

The quickest way I reload is with pre loaded oil jars. Just pack the hell out of it, dump it in (use the tool) after I dump out the bad and good to go again. That is, I don't use the glass flowers. I'm already extremely happy with how it works on its own. IMO if you need to use something that didn't come with the vape to get vapor, send it back. This thing IS possible to get great production without paying out of pocket to get it to work properly. Send it back until they get you one that works how its supposed to. Don't settle

This is what I envision as the ideal purpose-made Ascent bowl spacer. It would both reduce the bowl capacity and make use of the diffused heat retention capabilities that OF discovered with the glass flowers, while being quicker to insert and remove than those.

Please excuse the kindergarten-quality illustration; I made it on my smartphone... I think it gets the idea across, though. The poorly drawn circles in the top-view are holes for airflow. The ideal material would of course be ceramic or glass, but I do imagine it being difficult to manufacture...

Ah, I'm missing a vertical line in the top view. Oh well.

If you want something that you don't have to worry makin ur load time slower, a flat piece of glass with a thick stem in the middle and ground edges so it'll stick ish... to the bottom. Of course it would need holes as well as it would essentially be replacing the units current bottom. The bowl would be smaller with the thickness of the middle spike and you would have better heat management and hell, it might even save battery juice.

-does the device itself produce a strong smell?
-does the battery really last as long as they say it does?

I played with it for about an hour. This was the most recent production model and aside getting warm on the lower parts I didn't see much of a downside.

Hi! I've been following this thread since it's beginning but never made an account. So, firstly thanks everyone for the invaluable advice!

My ascent arrived today, couldn't be more excited!

My question is: I'm too scared to try and drill the holes people have been talking about into the oil jars to use as a spacer (don't trust myself not to just destroy the oil jar...), so I was wondering why you couldn't just load a small bowl by putting your herbs directly into the oil jar and vaping that way to prevent pulling it up the stem?

I am forming an opinion based on the varied reports here of vapor production & performance that technique is not the prevailing variant as much as an inconsistency in design tolerances (passed on to the end user) and in the manufacturing process. Now, anyone can take exception to my position (please feel free to do so), but it is just as conjectural to jump to the conclusion that a member's technique is at fault. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the basics of a workable pack and draw technique. C'mon ...levitating pucks, elusive vapor, McGyver glass bandages, drilling jars, anemic battery? Maybe Davinci needs to study their Ascent a good deal longer and stop relying on the consumer to figure out the fixes and settle for less than advertised. This is still in Beta as far as I'm concerned. I'm happy for those who have satisfactory units, and sorry for those who don't.

EDIT: If these are batch issues, folks may want to know from DV that the persisting issues are on the mend.

I came across some hashish for the 1st time in years (20? 30? really- it's been that long!).

Just dump a chunk in the bowl? Or crush it up first?
Lay it on, or between, cotton pads?
And how about the temp? I'm thinking a higher temperature is probably better.

I dont know about the ascent, but i use the original da vinci to vape moroccan hash in the oil can. Dont grind them up into dust. I usually heat it up a bit and use a metal grinder. It usually doesnt stick, but do it quickly before the hash cools down inside the grinder.
Just put the bigger pieces (not too big) at the bottom. As far as temp i used 205 c. Atleast start it out hot and if it gets too harsh lower the temp a bit. That being said im not an expert and i only vaped hash a few times. Maybe different hash will need diff temp.
Yiu should try it out. I hope u got good tasting hash, because moroccan hash tastes heavenlywhen vaporized.

My battery died it won't even stay on while plugged in and won't come on at all when not. When plugged in, it gets to the ''current temp'' screen then shuts off. Email sent already. I was having such good sessions with it too. Hope the next one is as good. On a side note, only hash I ever tried was Afghani and it taste like goat ass mixed with gas. Whatever you can get while there tho eh?
