Still not working, I jumped the gun.

I didnt touch it, left for a few hours when I came back I started it up. worked for a few seconds, i even seen the heat light show up and then I walked out the room and when I came back it was off.

I still have not attempted to open it. Im just going to order another charger and wait it out.

Did you try this? Why order anything before you try this, only takes 5mins of time to try. Why even open it and risk any damage if you are able to press a few buttons and be on your way?

You may be able to manually reset your Solo.
Please try the following:
  • plug in the Solo unit to charger
  • press and hold both buttons for approximately 4 seconds
  • wait for 10 seconds then unplug from charger
Once you have done this try out the unit again.

Yes I tried that a few times already and no luck.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully its just a charger or something minor. If its the actually vape then have no fear it seems like most things (especially electronics) either will fail right away or will last a reasonable time before dieing. Once you get a good solo then expect it to last a decent amount of time and even in the small case you have a failure it seems arizer has great service, think one member has gone through 3 of them over the years (first one teflon bowl was flaking-old model before they started using stainless steel).

Luckily the authorized dealer is working with me on getting new charger, if that does not solve issue im going send it out under warranty. However im tempted to take it apart like OF suggested.

It's funny that it's barely 3 weeks old and already issues. My classic volcano has been banged up so bad for over 5 years and it's still functioning at 100%. Still IMO the solo has a better bang for your buck and I rather much be using the Solo over the Volcano any day.

Im definitely not going to ditch the Solo. I'm looking forward to have a setup like ataxian.

You know, your shameless repeatedly taunting us with the lovely glass photos reminded me to finally recommend a modest alternative, the smaller cousin of the famous bubbler:
http://www.pipesdaddy.com/Double-Dome-Shower-Head-Bubbler-Black-p/bb-0087.htm

About the same height, half the diameter, works surprisingly well, is lots of fun to watch and it's really hard to argue with the price. Adding one of these to the order:
http://www.pipesdaddy.com/18mm-Vaporizer-Bubbler-Knob-p/as-0035.htm

lets you couple to tube, Omicron carts, Cera and so on.

For those who don't yet know the famous bubbler:
http://www.pipesdaddy.com/product-p/vp-0022.htm

It's pretty neat too, comes with the adapter, and travels well with a couple of appropriately sized rubber stoppers to keep the water in. No PVA (or whatever it's called) is complete without one......

OF
Those are all good links and good products.
I have the adapters for my carts as well.

I use PAYPAL so I buy from www.planetvapes.com I wish www.pipedaddy.com had the PAYPAL option!

The BLACK LEAF BUBBLER is pretty smooth.

I would get a deluxe Water Pipe however the ones in the links you posted will do the job.
There's a LSS (Local Smoke Shop) that carries most of the stuff as PIPE DADDY except the famous BUBBLER they carry. I prefer no LOGOS if I have the option.

Indeed.

How tall is this when fully assembled?

My stubby stems get here this week which would shave an extra 1/4" or so, can't wait to acquire the Pinnacle tube to go with it.

About 11.1". I'm also awaiting my stubby 14mm PVHES. I've decided to add an extra o-ring to my Solo also, as the stems could be more secure, and it'll be more natural to remove the PN WT without holding the stem in place.

I've never actually physically investigated/fiddled with the O-Ring on my Solo. Are you saying you're going to put two O rings in at once?

I think I'm going to have to order myself some O-Rings to play around with. I'm going to search through the thread for the answer, but does anyone know the O-Ring type/a good site to buy them from? I remember McMaster Carr being mentioned earlier...

Also the solo seems to be hyper sensitive to any power problems. Power outage was just my guess though based on what the guy said.

I don't agree with that assessment. Have any Solo's been killed by power supply problems? I know of none. Lots of power supplies delivering the wrong power (for whatever reason) won't work it it seems, but that's a power supply issue not a Solo one as I see it. When a good supply is connected they resume there duties just fine?

On the matter of power failure damage issues, they tend to come in two flavors, overvoltage 'spikes' and 'brown outs' (low voltage). One blows up electronic parts (typically power supply parts so Solo is protected there, the supply takes the beating), the other kills stuff like refrigerators who try to run too long on the weak power and overheat. Again, Cera will stall without damage (and in that case the supply will probably survive fine).

I see a surge protector as 'chicken soup' (can't hurt, might help). But in any case, Solo itself should fare fine?

You put a number 113 ring on top of the heater, under that cap. You need high temperature Silicone, hardware store rings are not right. I've published several sources, M/C being a good one. Another fellow found a place that sells them in smaller bags. There's also a modification I described in some details in the last week you might consider. I bet a search of 'ring' posts by me on this thread will yield lots of useful reading? It should also pick up my response to the other fellow's source as well I'd think? His too was in the last week or two.

Bummer, but it points right back at a charger that's not charging. Letting it sit off a while let the batteries recover just enough to get over the line again for a few seconds before again locking the unit out (to protect them). I'm at the '90% plus confidence level' on the replacement charger making everything right again.

In a way, this is good. "Problems that go away by themselves come back by themselves".

If that's right, opening up and rebooting will not help. I agree, try the charger replacement.

Good luck.

A couple of questions about the orings:
a) Are they useful for all solo models or just older models?
b) Does anyone know of a cheap place to get them in Canada?

Yes they are useful for new models, not sure about Canada. And kingofnull the rings work perfectly for what you want. With the ring I can lift up my solo rather than worrying about lifting from the stem when using it with water.

My solo came today! Yeah!

Im on dry burn number 3 and Im still getting the 'robo fart smell' although it does seem to be getting better. Just about to spark up my last (hopefully) joint then its on with testing this baby out!

One question though.. My unit doesnt seem to be able to maintain heat at 7. By that I mean it heats to 7 and the red light stops flashing but 5-10 seconds on 7 and it reheats again. Is that normal? Surely it should maintain its temp at least until a draw is taken.

Sorry if this has been covered before but theres so much irrelevant (to me) info in the thread that its hard to find an answer.

It's normal, don't worry.

Of course it won't magically maintain temperature without more power input..... Heat loss is a function of insulation values and temperature differences. As you go hotter and hotter in settings the "duty cycle" (percent of time spent on) goes up because of this. Even with the best insulation money can buy the heater in your house comes on, even though you're generating heat (since you're warmer than the room) 'for free'.

Found the Silicone rings on Amazon, .99+7.50 shipping for 5. I also found them on McMC ~20$/100, but I'd rather save the 10$ since there's no way I'll need that many.

Looks right to me. The vendor (O-Rings, Inc) is a top notch outfit, you might even check with them? Last time I bought from them was special rings for high pressure CO2 at a few bucks each but they were the best source.

I know what you mean about having a pile of rings around when you want a few, you can always do what I did, give them away.......

Good luck, I'm sure they're 'the good stuff'.

Hey FC I'm wondering if its normal that the 1-7 LEDs turn on while charging? I'm charging for the first time right now out of the box, it took about an hour for #7 LED to turn on, but the charge light is still been blinking for a half hour. How long does a typical charge take?

You're welcome.

I disagree with you a bit, there are no stupid questions (provided they're honest I guess). There's a few folks asking questions I'm not sure about, and for sure plenty of lame answers going around, but honest but stupid questions....naw.

We all get 'brain locked' from time to time and can't see 'the big picture'.....which is always so obvious looking in from the outside. We're here to keep each other sane.....or save what's left at any rate.

Regards.

Hey poonman thanks, you were right. One last question I'm leaving it on for the initial 12 minutes to get rid of smells am I supposed to leave the cover on the heater or open it up?

Open it up. It's closed loop system, leave the cover on and it'll throttle back on heater power since the losses will be less. One might even argue a fan blowing on the bowl???
