You have an excellent door stop. With proper connector it could charge Ascent or the big FMs but it will at best partially charge current Solos. Sorry, but that feature is gone.

You can decide how to use the 'charge while using' feature. My advice is to not. It's hard on the battery (the battery has to supply the missing power so it is constantly charged and discharged. And, for some strange reason, folks use them and forget to unplug......go figure. Habitually charging to 100% is probably the worst thing you can do to the battery.

OF
Yes, the idea of charging while using sounded very sketchy to me, in that i am not a fan of having the battery rapidly switch between charging and discharging. It is a shame this feature has gone. I wonder why? I guess it makes more sense for the average user to just have one charger do everything but i'm an EE who has battery charging habits left over from the day of dual Li-ion battery packs in laptops.

"Asked and answered" as they say......well done, tops in efficiency.

The customer asked for it is I think the answer. Always right you know. Silly customer if you asked me. The PA idea is epic I think, or was, in that the battery was involved for practical purposes. You could really have both a corded and portable in one.

Since I was never bothered by restricted draw with the originals, I personally prefer the originals.

I picked up a couple old styles from PIU at an average of maybe $75 each? A couple needed new batteries, but that's easy since I have the parts. I kept a backup for my original, and another in 'loaner cycle' and gave the rest to friends (one of whom insisted on giving me some of he crop.......which good manners compelled me to accept....... I think I'm covered for a while.

just curious if anyone knows the screw size off the top of their head. if not, i can find out myself! thanks

It's not the size that's the problem, but the threads. It's a thread forming screw, not a machine screw.

Most of the Members are doing what I first suggested, small pattern SS washers under the existing screws.

After several tried I found a workable screw from M/C, OO pan head sheet metal screws IIRC.

I suggest you contact Pipes, he can fix you up with the right parts and pad (so the exposed metal won't scratch stuff).

I just found the posts about cracking bottom plates and wanted to be prepared. I didn't see what size screws are recommended if you replace it with new screws + washers, just curious if anyone knows the screw size off the top of their head. if not, i can find out myself! thanks
I like the @Pipes stand, it protects the bottom and you can charge the Solo standing up that way too. Awesome product.

I love how versatile this thing is. I don't have to do anything fancy to go from vaping flower to vaping hash. I almost exclusively use the two screen sandwich method (one screen under and one over the load), I just crumbled the hash up and put it in the stem, and then sandwich screen on top, select temperature, and off we go! Spicy earthy pine, when it's done it's dry and comes out easily. No worries about ruining anything with hash except maybe the screens. I also wanted to share another benefit of the sandwich screen method which helps when doing flower and oil in the Solo and Air. I apply my flower as normal and then get my desired amount of oil on my dabber. I then take the top sandwich screen and apply the oil to that, spreading and centering as desired. Apply to herb, poking down with the tool to ensure even contact with the flower. I always take the first hit flipped upside down, and usually it's on one of my water tools which allows for it to sit inverted while it heats up and for the hits, melting the concentrate into the flower and using the airflow to pull it that way. Much easier to stick it on a screen and then on top of the flower than trying to ball it up and off my finger or getting a lighter out or whatever. I've tried doing hash oil by itself, so it's just a thin film of the oil squished between two screens pretty much dead center of the stem, to some success. Cotton or flower seems to be a better substrate than the two screens. If you load too much it runs down the screen and around the walls of the stem. A very small amount seems to work but the hit is not exactly substantial and not really worth the effort for me.

Stupid question perhaps, but is it OK to leave the Solo charger plugged into the device and the wall if the power on the plug socket is switched off?
im confused, do you have a lightswitch that controls power to certain outlets? if its properly implemented flipping it off will be the same as disconnecting it in theory but who knows about power trickling thru or what have you.

No I mean a normal plug socket in the wall (house ring main), most in UK have on/off switches.

I wasn't sure if the step down transformer in the solo plug / charger might leach power away from the battery, there is definitely no power coming though to the unit while the plug socket is switched off (unless you have a dodgy plug socket)

It should be fine. If not I believe you can check the plug with a multimeter to verify. The whole battery care thing applies to a ton of battery-powered devices, not just this vaporizer. You ever see a laptop that spends a ton of its time stationary plugged in all the time being used? And as soon as you take it off the charger the battery drains way faster than normal? The same "100% battery while being used and charging it at the same time" thing happens with the new charge-and-use Solos, only the extent of the "damage" depends on how often that is used. Some people noticed batteries dying within or around 1 year of this kind of use. I know I've wrecked a laptop and phone battery this way before, so I'm a bit more cautious about how I treat my batteries nowadays :) By the way, you don't need to know how to solder to replace the battery! The tabs are on the body and they go out to a connection that hooks up to the Solo. If you can deal with screws, a mindful sliding out of the main body, and pulling/inserting plugs, then sliding it back and putting the screws back on, you're golden!

Good thought. The charger is not really a transformer (it's a switching power supply) and presents no load if plugged into the Solo but is not powered. The switch on UK sockets should make it the same as not attached from an electrical POV.

If there is no power going to the socket, what could be a problem?

In some (few) cases this can be a problem, but not with this class of battery/device/charger. I have such a cordless trimmer.

Amen. But then again who cares about non vape batteries? Cell Phones and laptops? Come on......tools of the Devil you know.......

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
FYI

I brought my Mum the easyflow water bubbler for her Solo and she loves it.

She likes that it is almost the same size as the original stem. She can crank it up to 6 without harshness and is getting whopping clouds with the same amount of herb.

Amazing what 2 drops of water can do.

Thanks guys.

What the, I haven't heard of this at all... you're telling me I can have water filtration built into a solo stem?!
How does it do against leaks and such? could i travel with it in a travel case and not be terribly worried water will be everywhere when i want to use it?
It looks like its from a german site so is it european import only or can you get these in the usa too???
This could be a major game changer...

lol yes pal, I shit you not.

It took a little getting used to as it literally takes 2 drops of water and will leak if you over fill.
It has a cool design that prevents leaking at the bottom and you can just blow the water out to clear the chamber so you wouldn't need to travel wet.

I'd image its a doddle to clean, couple of drops of ISO and two shakes of a badgers tail and you're good.

I brought mine from vapefiend.co.uk who will deliver to the US but perhaps someone else here could recommend a US store that stocks them.

thats incredible. man, i sure hope there is a US retailer but they seem to have a lot of weird custom stuff so i'm afraid i might have to import it... if i do i'll buy like 5 to offset shipping!

is it difficult to fill with a water bottle or something? and is it ok sitting sideways for any amount of time?

It's not really tricky to fill, just tricky to not over fill as it just takes two drops.

A dropper/pipette might work better I think.

As long as it's filled under the white line on the side of the stem it will not leak at all. Even on it's side.

Thanks for this knowledge, i think i will re-appropriate a dripper i have around for this, i'll most likely order a couple of these bad boys tonight!

Okay, so since they're equivalent to about $40 a piece maybe I won't be buying several.... I feel like I should buy more than one but all that money!!!

I am torn between dropping the $ on a set of them now and waiting to see if someone else makes one, or they update their design.

Edit: While searching for details on the Easy Flow if anyone else had one I came across @CarolKing 's post where she mentions a vortex stem. Two of my friends who I gave past solos to bought normal PVHES stems and i like them. from the pictures on the site i couldn't tell how the vortex was different than the usual PVHES. what's the difference?

Ah Grasshopper, it's so cool when people appreciate the finer things in life.

Filling and cleaning isn't as bad as it looks. Once the water is in, pretty much spill proof. Fill till it no longer comes out when turned in all directions. Can only drain by blowing.
Cleaning needs soak in PBW. You will want to and can, leave the water in longer than a few bowls.

I have a DIY version but never really use anymore. You can search previous posts for it.
There is also another type out there which is slightly larger and you use tubing to connect. @OF has pics of this method. A search would find as well.

So many options with this thing. You are now an official Soloist!

I'm about to place an order with Pipes, an order with Eds TnT, and going to see what those Easy Flows are all about, i'm getting back into this Solo thing full swing!!!

Although I feel like i'm doing something wrong as I have two perfectly good PA's I won't be able to use with my shiny new Silver solo... which is supposed to arrive tomorrow!!!

I cant help but think its funny that after being mighty only for so long i'm going back to the good old solo... i'll probably be in a nursing home one day grumbling while hitting my solo.

@Hot Dog Day 187 I have the Easy Flow WT Adapter and long mouthpiece, very happy with them. I also have @Pipes stand, which should come as standard with the Solo IMO, it's that good!

All I need now is my 18mm F/F GonG delivery from DHGate and I'll be rocking my Solo with the D020-K , soooooo excited :)

Does DHgate sell Solo GonGs now? no more having to go thru PV?
This.
do you have the link?
And this. Never seen that WT, hopefully we can find it available in US.

What's you guys preferred method of vaping kief in the solo? Should I even bother or save it up for a concentrate?

I'm getting along with my solo much better now, I like to start around 4 and get a tasty hit or two and bump it up to 5-6. Occasionally finishing on 7, I prefer the higher temps buzz. I've bought some screens and domed the one in my strait stem, my abv comes out more even and It seems to be more efficient. Thanks again for the thread to all those who have participated in this thread, the information here has already helped me get more out of my solo.
