Arizer Solo

Hmmm, maybe I will contact Arizer....it's supposed to power the Solo without regard for the charge. It's nearly 2016, i'm sure by now they could have added a disclaimer that it's for older Solo's only.
You have had more vaporizers than King Solo man had wives.

However me personally believes the SOLO is the best unit hands down!

Simple and so easy to use!

Plus it's cheap and delivers the best medication (efficiency citY)

Great points @ataxian ! Although I would trade the vapes for wives, unfortunately my wife doesn't see eye to eye with for vapes or wives!

Just doing another vape line-up "shake up"...and starting from scratch, and the Solo always ends up on top! For many of the reasons you mentioned! The Solo and (extreme-q) will be my top 2 vapes until the next "shake up" which i'm hoping won't happen for a loooong while.

Overall though, it was the airflow improvement in the newer models that makes me adore this vape.

I would be curious what Arizer says. If you email them they will email back.

Email sent. I'll let you know! Since the PA does not charge, i'm guessing this would be the best way to use the Solo for battery health? I know it will use a bit of the battery, but at least it's not charging at the same time.

Even the older Solo models would have a tiny bit of battery charge used when mated with the PA. On a full charge, using the PA eventually would drop the battery one light.

Just shows to go ya how these things can work out, I prefer the more restricted flow in the original.......

As the saying goes, 'that's what makes horse races'??

The PA is basically useless on the new models. They can't run 'true PA' even when supplied by a PA that works normally with the older style. The old version 'switched gears', a feature not included with the new version. Instead it can 'use while charging', but since the charger can't supply but about half the total power needed the battery supplies the rest during heating. It discharges then only to start charging again making no real headway but working all the time. This is not good for battery life, and can actually damage it in some cases (near bottom of the charge). For this reason ESV took this feature out (current software won't heat while charging) since it was causing unit failures.

'Use while charging' also opens the door for setting it down (still plugged in) when the session is done leaving it plugged in 'so it'll be ready to go'. This too kills batteries early, I'm sure we all know of cell phones or laptops that were 'always ready' this way that now have pathetic battery life? This is why, simply storing this class fully charged will wear it out without using it! That's why the unit comes to you about 3/4 charged (so it doesn't die in the box, on the shelf, waiting for that 'forever home'........

I advise charging or using, but not together. If possible, for longest battery life, unplug it while the charge light is still flashing but with the step 7 light lit. This can double your battery life over letting it 'go all the way to the top'. Don't leave it plugged in.

Thanks @OF. I know you know your battery stuff well. I just have a few questions/comments that I can't get my finger around. Perhaps Arizer will shed some light in their reply to my email.

Why would Arizer allow/implement the charge and use feature? Surely they wouldn't want their batteries dying much more prematurily? I guess it appeals to the consumer more to have the feature even at the cost of the batteries dying quicker.

Something also doesn't add up...I understand your points on extended battery life, but for some reason it appears that the rules don't always apply. For example, I have an iphone 5 that is now 3 years old. It's the longest running phone i've ever had, i've paid no attention to battery conservation practices, and kept it on the charger whenever I could. I use it in the sauna (have had the heat warning come on), and generally treat it like crap - and....it continues to go strong! The same for a now 3 year old macbook.... the battery is awesome, I keep it plugged in most of the time even with a full battery, so I think that whatever "protection mechanisms" these companies use, work pretty damn well.

The protection mechanisms are supposed to be designed so that an "overcharge" is not possible, so I guess the rules only apply if that mechanism fails?

Both my S&B Mighty's arrived with a completely full battery FWIW.

I'm sure the reason the Engineers changed it is because the suits (sales) told them to because 'customers are demanding it'. And since they sell replacement batteries to those (no doubt the majority) who just just buy a replacement a few years out when the first dies I can easily understand why that 'works' for some segments of the maker?

A better question to ask yourself is why the PA happened in the first place? Engineers decided it was a good idea, and supported the extra costs of supplying that function. Engineers, generally, are trying to make the best product they can, not making as much money as possible.

Battery management is a complex deal. Charging to a higher voltage, for instance, gives more 'hits per charge' a guaranteed selling plus. Here's an inight for you, commercial products (driven by profit) typically push it as high as they can (4.2 Volts per cell typically), while the military demands a lower cutoff (typically a tiny bit under 4.0) being willing to take 'less hours per charge' in exchange for batteries they don't have to replace a few years later. IMO they are not dumb, at least on this point.

If you want to do some fun reading (at least to me....) on the matter you might start here:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

Notice is a 'slippery slope' deal. Tradeoffs both ways. I suggest that some owners might prefer longer battery life (less replacement). You'll also note that BU (an independent) says shipping to you fully charged is s looser? Order some loose 'batteries' (actually cells, FWIW) from makers who have to stand behind them, they 'never' come 'topped up'........ As the BU info states 100% charged batteries degrade with time and no use at all.

These guys aren't really magic, they follow predictable rules. Nor are they immortal, like you and I, their lifespan is limited and how they 'live day to day' impacts that a LOT. Live it like Bob Hope (100) or James Dean (24), your call.

Regards to all.

As you know I respect the HOLY GRAIL!!

The Grail is CANNABIS and it's more HOLY than vaporizers!

For me , I used the PA with the newer Solo , strictly to conserve maximum
battery power for portability usage . Since it's hard for me to re-charge at work .
After being fully charged overnight , I would attach the PA and use the PA power for the 1st hour . Then I would notice the green charge light start to flicker , as to begin charging . Just in time for me to un-plug and leave for work . I'm wary about using and charging as mentioned by others .

I don't have to worry about that anymore , I got a 3rd one .
Notice even with @CentiZen replacement battery , I couldn't revive the
dead blue idle light on my oldest one .

After getting my herbie checked out, my mighty is getting sent in, and my minivap not heating, I go to mr. reliable: the arizer solo. I forgot how little you need to get a nice session. This thing is a tank.
The Solo is Mr. Reliable always ready to get the job done. I refer to it as the work horse of portable vaporizers. When everything else fails the Solo is still working.

Yes, PA but not battery bypass adapter correct? I'm trying to determine what the battery bypass adapter does on newer model solo's.

It will give a partial charge. Basically useless with the new models.

On the old style it directly replaced the 8.4 Volt battery with a 8.4 Volt external power supply. The 'rub' is the external supply has to provide about 2.5 Amps (not the one available from the charger), that doesn't change with the 'use while charging' option, when the heater comes on most of that 2.5 Amps comes from the battery (which discharges during heating) only to be charged again a few seconds later. Better for the battery I think to recharge it when it's not working so hard so it'll be cooler?

Just want to confirm that our own @OF is once again bang on - Arizer basically said the same thing, the Battery Bypass adapter is useless for the newer model Solo's that can be used/charged at the same time. I think this should be a disclaimer for unsuspecting customers that aren't even able to get a refund.

Back to your regular programming... just received my regular (non PVHES) gong from PV! Will be getting my new Solo next week and I can't wait to pair the two with my newly fixed Weedstar water tool! (today is new Arizer EQ day lol). For anyone in Canada (or US) this is where I picked up my Solo for a bargain:

www.agracan.com $159cdn (120USD) with free shipping (black colour only) and what looks like a half decent medium sized 4 piece zinc coated grinder (i'll be receiving one with my EQ today). This place had an insane 420 sale with the Solo only being 129cdn, but I can't wait that long!

I agree but think that Dealers with stock on the PA aren't interested in discouraging sales? Arizer has no control there, of course, and standing stock costs real money.

If I were king, on 'day one' Arizer would buy back all standing stock and disclaimers or other such disclosures would prevent new owners from being distracted from enjoying their Solos......
