Hey OF,

I wasn't comparing in that sense, I just meant people complained about the Ascent, but I don't see that as an issue, but with the Solo, trying to do the burn offs on my desk, ensuring the chamber is pointing up and not lying down facing anything while plugged in has been a serious and dangerous balancing act.

Personally when I have finished taking a hit and the stem is too hot to handle, I'd want to stand the Solo up, which is going to be neigh impossible while plugged in.

If they have moved it to the side on the Air (which I didn't realise) I guess , the design team and perhaps feedback from users, came to the same conclusion when designing the newer Air. Interesting, which people think is better.

Anyhoo, I have PM'd Pipes, so thanks for the heads up

@1DMF i make custom wood Solo stands and I'm adding a way to make it a dock for the solo. The cord will feed thru the bottom and stay in one spot so you can just set the solo straight down onto the plug. I have the stands pictured on my store but didn't have a solo at the time to show how the cord will work. I will get new pics with the Solo and cord this weekend or early next week. I'm at www.jojowoodworks.com

Try a reset.
Remove battery.

Possibly dead battery. You bought it new from online retailer? Let them know. Reason it sounds like the battery is because it turns on (no real electrical load) but then after heating for 20s it fails (under load). If you bought it from an actual store in real life, who knows how long they had it on the shelf before you bought it?

OMG - WOW, how does this thing make so much cloud on such a low setting with so little herb?

Taste wise it's a winner from the first toke, and I know it can only get better over time as it's broken in.

Literally two bowls and the 'robot fart' is just a faint memory and they weren't even full bowls!

OK, where are the screens? or a cleaning brush or something other than the bare minimum needed to operate the thing! Save on packaging by all means, but no accessories whatsoever, really?

The vapour is harsher than the Ascent for sure especially on the higher settings and there is a fair amount of draw resistance, but I don't mind that, you feel like you're having to work a little but are then rewarded, so it's all good.

This vape is seriously efficient with your herbage, and it seems to work well with even the smallest of pinches, where as the Ascent is rather greedy in this respect.

You know they are both great vapes, with their own plusses and minuses in different areas, from a refined and sophisticated Ascent, as you savour the journey a full bowl and precision temperature control takes you on, to the efficient and powerful Solo, that delivers instant gratification.

Both are great with the water tool, creating decent clouds and tasting good.

I want to thank the FC community for a great forum and friendly advice, that has helped me make the transition from combusting tobacco to now being a pure vapour only consumer.

I haven't craved nicotine once since I met you guys :)

...you only need the bare minimum with the solo- why its great :D

imo you don't really need a cleaning brush, just dip stem in iso and rinse
don't need screens either because of the stem, at least i prefer screen-less.

glad your enjoying your solo. there is a reason people compare other vapes to "solo quality vapour"...

Have to agree with the Q man here. Sounds like a battery issue. Good chance it's gone south. You could try and leave on the charger for a few hours extra to maybe balance out the charge some. That's if one of the two cells is weak causing the protection to shut it down. Nevertheless, getting a warranty claim on the go will be the best advice I'd think.

@1DMF Why when doing burn offs you feel you need your Solo standing up? Most of us probably did our burn offs laying the Solo down. Don't worry about laying the Solo down.

Could also be a problem with the temperature sensor in the heating unit. The sensor is directly under the heater, anything is fixed with a screw. When this screw is too loose the Solo turns off automatically cause the temperature doesn't increase enough. I already repaired 2 units with this fault.

@1DMF - I got screens and silicon rings with the package when I bought it from PuffItUp. If you didn't get any and feel you need them try the PuffItUp web site.

I agree with what others have said....cleaning wise there isn't much to do. I do a minor scrape of the bowl after it's beat with the tip of a tiny screwdriver or whatever is handy. BUT I have a domed screen in the bowl so that's what I'm really scraping. Then I blow out any remaining flakes. I've never cleaned the oven and it's been a year and the oven is clean and clear.... because I always inhale/draw through the stem as I am removing it from the oven. By inhaling as I'm removing the stem I am actually vacuuming it out that way each time.

Very interesting fault. Sounds common by your experience but haven't heard of it here before. The logic sounds sound enough. We have had lots and lots of this type of reported trouble and the advice has always been to replace the battery. The reported feedback has always proved correct. Hopefully if the battery hasn't been the trouble the owner would have reported back the incorrect diagnosis.
Now your fix would definitely not be for the faint of heart. Would not recommend 99% of folks to attempt it. Besides voiding the warranty, the thermocouple wires break from multiple bending. Once they break, it's game over. This is another fault reported many times, usually via a confession of diddling where one should not.
OTOH, good to know information,
Thanks.

Funny (odd) thing-
One of my Solos overheated. Like, all of the sudden I was tasting charcoal and I realized how far I'd come, and ew! After that it bluelighted, so I assumed it was a battery issue like my first Solo that got warrantied/replaced. I was in the middle of a move when it happened and am still discombulated with stuff, so I can't send it off just yet. I just found it freaky and cool that it went out in a blaze of glory. Rock on Solo!
In happier news, I've been sticking to my Solo in social gatherings, using my Ed's stem. I've gotten so many people curious about our buddy and am happy to be spreading the love! <3

You're funny!

I can't stop laughing!

Maybe it's the GSC talking.?

I have broke my share of Glass!

@Quetzalcoatl I have this Bent Stem you told me about!

Love it!

We have similar sense of humour, because I crack myself up most of the time!
I had to look up GSC!

Well I got a good deal on a "seconds" Shorty Turbo for my Solo, and I got one of those (70mm) Air stems with the black tip.
I reckoned a 60mm one might run a little too hot, or my face might be too close to the Solo's oven?
I'll buy a Vortex stem next time, as I'm sure there'll be a next time!!

The Nano stems have a plastic tube, maybe that works better. I've thought that it might be easy to break in the glass tube. Glass against a hard surface the plastic is softer. Try a wooden stem for easy transportation. @Ed's TnT

That last suggestion of yours caused me to do an awful lot of research on Ed's stems :) , had seen some about them before, but just realized how much they would suit me. Soon I will order a special one for my Solo!
Thank you for that tip:tup:

Because my desk was short on space, with paper, mice, and other work related crap. I was concerned pointing an open oven at it on full wack, so I balanced it precariously on the edge, so it could be upright while plugged in.

The same issue after using last night, wanted to stand it up, had to lie it down. I can see my clumsiness is going to break a stem pretty quick on this device lying it down with a stem in it.

<- Goes to check out FC stands :)

@OF
I got screens and silicon rings with the package when I bought it from PuffItUp.

Got no extras whatsoever from VapeFiend, I also ordered a GonG 18mm Easy Flow water tool adapter. The only extra, if you could call it that was a few rose petals and the aroma cup/dish, which are as much use to me as a chocolate tea pot.

The water adapter did have a single screen wedged in the herb chamber, so at least I have one!

SOLO Vaporized Cannabis is my Best Medicine
I've had times where I've wanted to medicate during the middle of the night, when I've had a lot of pain. The Solo works out well during those occasions. Since I don't have to worry about a cord it gives me the freedom that I need. I can just take the Solo in bed with me.
Not to mention that if you fall asleep in bed while medicating(that's the goal after all) you won't burn the house down. Just another great benefit from vaporizing, increased consumer safety.

It's of no use with the newer Solos. It might do some charging but not the recommended voltage as it falls short. Charger is 12 volt and that unit is 8.5 volts. Designed for powering the older models in a more true PA type configuration. This option is no longer with the units that can be used while charging. A feature which IMO, not recommended on a steady basis. Hard on the battery.

Is the power adapter that is still sold everywhere relevant to the newer model Solo? What will happen if it's used with it?

http://www.vapornation.com/arizer-solo-power-adapter.html
It will heat the Solo up but it won't charge. I couldn't remember what we talked about ( big PA)so I just plugged mine in. It heats up just fine. It was for the older model Solo 2011/12 so you could use the Solo plugged in. It by passes the battery with the older model. It's of no use for the 2014 model.

The old girl was upgraded in 2014 so you could use and charge at the same time. There has been mixed opinions if it was good or not. I don't usually use and charge mine at the same time. @OF has told us that it's not good for the battery. The battery will degrade quicker if we do that.

Edit
@Pipes and @OF can explain better or @CentiZen all about batteries.

What I like about the newer Solos is that the draw resistance isn't an issue for me any longer.:)

Maybe better, but not as classy.
I think we had mixed feedback on the charging side. Some have had it charge but later found not as it should. My guess yours was using the battery to heat. Now we have had reports that some units will work with the PA supply if you REMOVE the internal battery. But not 100% confirmed on all units. This is something that could be changed via versions that end user would never know. This is the only "possible" use for this supply but not a factory recommended procedure.
