This is what I wanted to see , what it looks like when it's charging
and heating at the same time . You have a Green Heat light on .
I don't think I've seen that yet .

But what if you wanted to heat at level 5 , and the charging level is at 7 ? What will it show ? The temp level or the charge level ?

Hi Poonman,

Here's what happens for me (from a 'cold' start):

Plug charger into wall.
Connect Solo (Edit: 'new' charging/heating type) to charger.
Blue Idle Led flashes once.
Yellow Level 7 Led flashes once at moment of Solo 'beep'.
Now:
Blue Idle Led is lit; Solo now shows BATTERY LEVEL; green charging Led is flashing (at least until battery is fully charged-then solid green; I will mention that I typically pull my Solo off the charger as soon as the battery level hits 7-while the green charging Led is still flashing).
Now until you press the Up button- this is all you get (battery level indication).

NOW SET HEAT LEVEL (say level 4):

Solo now begins to heat; 12 minute timer is now initiated; green charging and red heating LEDs are flashing.
Yellow LEDs will now indicate HEAT LEVEL (in this case 4) until the 12 minute shut-off.

At this 12 minute mark:

Solo beeps
Yellow Level 7 Led flashes once.
Blue Idle Led is lit; Yellow LEDs now indicate BATTERY LEVEL.
Solo now back in charging mode (green charging Led flashing).

Rinse and repeat?
Hope this helps?

Got it @NoName ,
Nice detailed post , so it shows charging , unless you set heat temp level . Then , it'll show heat temp level instead .

But have anyone seen the Green Heat light as shown in the pic ?

It's not lit. You're looking at the lens on the unlit LED.

OF

But isn't the Unlit lens for the Heat in Red .
It never switches to Green , I guess that's what I'm asking .
It could just the lighting or angle . idk
It just looked odd , that's all .

The top button flashes green when it's charging. The bottom button flashes red when it's heating up. If the unit is plugged in it charges in between heating up. If the unit is fully heated the red light goes off and stops flashing. The top green light comes on and flashes and charges. When the Solo cools down the red bottom button starts flashing again and the green light turns off.

I see what your talking about. The other button faintly looks like it's lighting up too, but it's not.
I looked at my older model Solo and notice it looks similar, I bought it last July.

I hope that makes sense?

Edit: I like that EveryDayAmnesia, I was trying to figure out how to explain it. Leftover charge light, that's good.

I took a closer look and the green you're seeing is just leftover green from the "charge" light. While watching it charge, it also looked a bit like the arrows were lighting up as well. I don't recall that happening with my first Solo (purchased in May of last year), but I can't say for sure.

That pic is very misleading. Just lighting and angle and leftovers from the charge light. :)

I kinda like that picture now. :ko:

I agree with Snappo. Interesting though. Did you get more then one more session before you hit the charger full time?

Here is a letter from a Arizer tech on the subject. Remember when he says power adapter, he is not saying the charger.

Hi Pipes,

Somehow managed to miss your OP (and almost the most recent repost). Interesting comments from Kevin regarding the 3v trickle charge and the "You can use your Solo with the Power Adapter 'when the Solo does not need to be charged' to 'bypass the battery completely' which will help reduce wear on the battery, as you had hoped." While his comments reference the Power Adapter, they may provide some clues - here's an attempt at extrapolating a 'theory' regarding 'new Solo' operation (with the stock 12v DC 1amp charger):

12v DC fed into Solo (internal circuitry is initialized).
Software reads voltage level-and if the Up Arrow (to start timer/set heat level) has NOT BEEN PRESSED- then Solo goes into charging mode.

When the Up Arrow is finally pressed to start timer/set heat level- it is sensed by the software which then routs 9v DC to the heater (as required) and (the remaining?) 3v DC as a trickle charge to the battery (please note that both the green charging and red heating LEDS flash simultaneously). However, if the battery power level meets a certain minimum threshold (Kevin: "when the Solo does not need to be charged"; say 4v DC minimum?) then the battery is bypassed (Kevin: "to bypass the battery completely") via software (so no 3v DC trickle charge) and (hope beyond hope) TADA! - we may have "True PA" (although at a 1amp stock charger rate- not the 5amps available with the stock PA). Please note that I have already verified that you can remove the 'new' Solo's battery completely- and still operate in PA Mode.

If this minimum battery threshold voltage is NOT MET-then I believe the software detects this, the battery is not bypassed and the 3v DC trickle charge goes to the battery; the 9v DC to the heater. As @OF has posted previously, with the stock charger's 1amp limit-our Solos batteries are being recharged at half the rate they're being discharged (2amps to heat). This charging should continue until the battery has finally been charged up the minimum battery threshold level.

Of course I may just be hallucinating. Any thoughts fellow FCrs?

Interesting thoughts NN. I don't have the new model (yet..) and can't confirm what's going on.
Kevin's letter has some hints for sure but the "bypassing the battery completely" maybe a little misleading but would be nice for sure. Although as @OF has tested, the PA supply must be very close to 9 volts to get the most out of the PA side of power. So could be next best thing..? Use with PA until needs a charge, than finish the battery normally until depleted. After a full charge use on PA again........repeat
Finding out that the Solo not only has function differences with the detected voltage but having different behavior with different button sequences could be a possibility for Solo's actions and sounds like it from what I'm reading.
I'm thinking some clarification from Arizer is really needed. Thinking another, more detailed, email to their support asking what the benefit is on purchasing their PA is?
Will let FCers' know.,

EDIT: The most important thing. This all really doesn't matter much as the enjoyment is always there. Arizer just makes these minor changes to give us something to talk about here.

The light is leaking from the Green LED over to the unlit Heat LED. It just looks like that because there's probably nothing in between the two lights to stop light leaking from happening.

My ariser solo has been turning off by itself randomly, and once in a blue boon it will last a whole session but it usually tuns off after as long as a minute and as short as 10 seconds. It still heats up and it still charges, I just have to turn the damn thing back on every thirty seconds. It honestly almost looks more like a software issue, seeing as it heats and holds a charge still. I have tried to do the "manuel reset" bullshit but it didn't do a thing. Would disconnecting the battery and re connecting it maybe successfully reset the software? Has anyone heard of this?

And I know it's not the battery, I can get through a whole bowl I just have to turn it back on every time it shuts down by itself. This can be very annoying because sometimes the damn thing will turn on and off 20 times in one bowl. Sometimes it will literally turn off 1 second after I turn it on. I don't think it's possible to run the battery until it's dead anytime soon, because I can't keep it on long enough and it's fully charged.

Sitting here now trying to use it, it seems like it might be turning off as soon as it reaches the temperature I set it at, I'm not sure yet though.

Solod out.
I have a question for the people that have sent their solo in for repair. Did you guys pay shipping?
Why did shipping cost me 20$, but today I go to the post office to send the damaged one and its $12. Its not really worth the trouble, but I was just curious.

Prove that invisible dragon isn't in my garage.

That's what you get for leaving the door opened after dark.......

You won't find one in my garage, I keep the door shut.

I demand a refund!

Actually it's a feature. You should have been charged extra for it. I suggest you just play dumb and they'll never figure it out.

PM me if you need advice on playing dumb......I can help ya there.....

That is a frustrating way to use for sure. It reminds me of bad connection type problems I've had using in PA mode.
I would not be so fast to rule out the battery though. If the battery is having a hard time delivering the power to the heater, the Solo will interpret it as a low battery and turn off after it completes the heater on state.
A loose connector would also give such a problem.
Software is the last thing I would suspect but you never know.
Good luck.

Hello,

I just received my arizer solo.
I will open the package and plug it in to charge.
I read that this is the best to prevent the battery.

Do you have some other tips to use it for the first time?

Give the stems a propper cleaning, let your Solo run empty (with open heating chamber) for 2 cycles on 7, put a screen inside the steam (the honeycomb in the glass doesn't help to much when you grind your herb fine), enjoy!

About a year or two ago Arizer did not require you to pay return shipping. It is quite lame if they are requiring it now, as it's only because of their faulty wares that you're wasting your time trying to ship them anything.

Hello,

Maybe some stupid questions. But because I'm blind they are important:
When I have the solo in my hand and the buttons are facing me. Is the left one to go a level down and the right one to go a level up?

Also to fill the bowl that's not a problem but to put it in the heating chamber I think it is the best to turn the unit upside down. Is it Right?

Last question: The bowl does not fit in the chamber. I read somewhere that it is the best to heat the unit and try it again?

Regards

The buttons are actually exactly the other way around. Left button is up, right button is down. Even with vision it took me a while to get used to that ;)

Regarding fill procedure, I do it pretty much that way. Either I turn it all the way around or at least 90°.

The stems are a very tight fit. Have you given your unit 2 empty runs with open heating chamber at level 7? You should do that, not only to make the fit looser, but also to burn off any manufacturing residue of your unit. Also, if the straight stem doesn't fit, give the angled on a try, sometimes the stems deviate a little bit in diameter. There may be a little bit of force involved at first, just keep in mind you are handling glass, so I am talking about very gently pushing and wiggling that thing in there.
