to answer that safely/correctly you need to know the lithium battery chemistry used - different types require different charge procedures. i think i've read every post but this has not been specified.

I'm sure what Hippie says is very true. But without being too unsafe in this case I believe the 12v charger is just a standard regulated 12V 1A centre positive power supply from China. I've relegated my USA versions to the drawer and have replaced them with UK versions- I've got heaps around the house- even been using the one for my PD as well. It's been working fine for the last couple of months. I guess any issue would show up fairly early?
I use these adaptors so I didn't have to resolder the plugs (keeping the 5.5mm is more useful)

My power supplys are regulated 12V. I don't know what would happen with unregulated. Some might remember that I wrote about putting 9V through my Solo in an attempt to run it from the mains, but it would only run for about a minute before turning off. This was before we knew about the mains supply being 8.5V rather than the 9V stated on the unit. An unregulated 12V supply might fluctuate from 11 to 13V, or more (please correct me if I'm wrong here Hippie Dickie- I'm self taught in this area). Maybe this would upset the unit and it's charging cycles? However, one thing that gives me some confidence is that the official 12V car charger just seems to be a bog standard connection to the cigarette lighter- no major regulating electronics in there- would everyone agree? Atleast, there doesn't seem to be anything extra compared to the cheaper one I purchased. As I understand things the DC power supply from a car is a little variable depending on whether it's coming from the battery or alternator, and so the power getting to the Solo might be equally variable. I'm relying on the assumption that there's nothing clever in the cigarette adaptor though. I might try my car charger with my flaky Solo in the car tomorrow and report back.
So in answer Stu, I reckon you can get away with buying a cheaper one elsewhere. (those 5.5mm to 4.0mm adaptors took 10 days to arrive though. Maybe you can get them locally or from radioshack).

Search that and see if you can find something lower cost. The last time I bought a Radio Shack power block was for a flatbed scanner, still cost $30 bucks, and came with a reversable plug tip that my kid accidently flipped over when he moved my scanner and then blew it out when he plugged it back in. Be careful if you go that route.

I received my "new" Solo (ordered from puffitup to $ 189), it is a black one, and not a new Solo with the SS bowl but a new with the ceramic bowl, M104 series.
When I received my first solo, Series M102, I could use it immediately with satisfaction, no bad taste / smell.
This new M104 stinks ... I left it warmed at 7 with nothing inside, many times, but always this bad smell ... I tried with a very strong grass in taste (Sour Diesel), but not possible, the taste was horrible. I went back to the M102 with this SourDiesel, and nothing to do, it's good and it is the taste of the SourDiesel.
I will repeat several times the heat again with nothing in it, and see if the smell goes away ...

i would guess fewer recharge cycles might be a problem. i just know there is a very particular charger needed for LiFePO4 chemistry -- constant current, constant voltage, with a specific voltage cutoff, so non-regulated output would be bad. Using the wrong charger for Lithium Ion batteries is not safe imho.

Just did my weekly q-tip with just enough ISO to be 'moist' of the ceramic cup and noticed that where the stem bowl rests there is a ring of ceramic that appears to be gone and showing the metal below the ceramic (and which I feel has been caused by my loose stems twirling around all the time during use).
Although at this point there is not any chipping or damage showing beyond that seating mark, I'm not so confident now that it has started to wear off. And, I'm quite surprised I'm having an issue since its a M102 device that most have claimed no issues.
Does anyone else have this wear as well on their M102 ?
I hope I'm not in for issues because my Solo has been great up until this finding, and I'd really hate to fall into replacing it with one of the ones that have serious problems as has been stated by others regarding smell/taste offgassing and lower temps/vape production.

my warranty replacement is a M102 and it has chipped ceramic just like the 1st one.
I decided I dont really care, I dont eat the ABV & 2 solo's for the price of one was great.
both of mine are chipped quite a lot, but they still work a treat.
It had the 'smell' for the 1st couple of cycles but then went away.

My first solo is a ceramic M102, and I had a little bit of chipping, but it hasn't spread from there,
My replacement is a SS M105, which I haven't had any trouble with since I got it a few weeks ago.
I don't have any wearing on the bottom of my ceramic bowl though, my chipping is at the top where the stem enters...
I must say, I'm loving the 4 hole stems that came with my replacement.
Does anyone know of anywhere that sells replacement stems aside from planet vape?
They want $40 shipping for any order, and I don't want to pay $60 for 2 stems
Also, I haven't had any blueing of my SS, but it has started yellowing a bit.

I too have yellowing, not blue on the SS. Last night I noticed a horrible taste though... it was right at the end of the bowl, and it tasted EXACTLY like it smelled when it was brand new. This is on heat setting 6 (I have to crank this puppy a bit higher than my ceramic), so I tried it with an empty bowl, and no taste. Hasn't happened since so i'm confused. I know forsure that taste was exactly like the smell though.

I hate to be a debbie downer again, but I really think the idea that just "a few batches are bad" has gone out the window. IMO the device is unreliable. Some of you are lucky so far and that is about it. It is my opinion that if your bowl is ceramic it is simply a matter of when, not if they will go bad.

Just a thought, but maybe headaches could be a result of the 16-17hz (my estimation) frequency coming from the heater. I know certain frequency tones can cause a change of pressure in the ear that can give me a headache.
Continued negative comments about the same few defective units are really starting to shine an overall negative light on the product as a whole, which is somewhat of a shame since the vast majority that are behaving as intended are a great step ahead in portable vapes.

Not sure why Arizer hasn't come onto the forum to settle some issues. Vaporizing isn't mainstream yet so one of the only ways to target your niche' audience would be on forums like this.
I'm one of many people who were interested in this from the start, have moved onto the fence about this and now won't be buying thanks to the focus group that is FC.
Too bad, my Extreme Q Tower is THE best flower vaporizer I've tried, I cannot say enough good about it. When the Solo was announced I nearly bought sight unseen because of my satisfaction with the Q and enjoying the portability my Iolite provided.
Until they work this out, for the people who are looking for the current best portable vaping experience(IMO), try an Omicron. It rocks like you wouldn't believe and the company is always on the forum taking care of customers!

How long does it take you to take a hit? How long do you hold it? Do you exhale it all at once or in stages? How dry is the bud in your bowl? How finely is it ground? How much bud are you loading? These are all variables that make it impossible to give a meaningful answer to your question. The answer to 'how long does X produce vapor' is much more dependent on the individual and the variables above, than whether it's vape X or vape Y.Lupe420 said:

But for me, with what I'm currently using, I'll take 10-15 slow pulls, each one 5-6 seconds long. The first 5 or 6 pulls at setting 3 or 4 (depends on the bud), and the next at the next higher temp. I never go higher than temperature setting 5 (burns my throat too much).
Usually, even after 15 pulls, its still producing vapor.
