I ordered a solo II from 420 EDC. They have a very nice package deal which includes a very nice hardshell case and a choice of a glass piece. O got the wpa and bought a second wpa for an easy swap. The case is very nice and 420 EDC offers a lifetime warranty on the case. Package deal was $174.00 Considering the Solo II is $149.00 on the Arizer site, I feel this was a great deal!
I bought this as a replacement for my HerbalAire tabletop that we use every night with our bong. The HA still works but the temerature regulation is failing I think, the AVB is looking more toasted that it use to. I wanted to upgrade to their Elite but was told supply problems have put the Elite off until likely next year! So when I saw this deal I decided this might be a worthy replacement. I have the Argo and enjoy it, it's my second favorite portable next to my Dynavap Tectonic.

Waiting for this to charge for the first test vape!

420 EDC is the best. I highly suggest buying their 3D hubble bubble bent stem. It’s much better than the stock stems. I see you snagged the wpa, that would’ve been my other suggestion! Great buy

I miss my original Solo!
It was one of the pivotal units that transitioned me to vaping exclusively. It died years ago and I bought a replacement before the Solo 2 was released, but I believe it was the second generation. It works well but it does not reach the heat levels of my original. I have an Air as well, first-gen, good vape, but not comparable to the original Solo.

I’m considering a replacement and hoped to get some expert input on the Arizer product that most closely matches the performance of the original Solo.

Couldn't agree more with your Solo 2 assessment. I tested a Solo 2 for a week and found that I liked the OG Solo vapor a little more. I feel like the stem sits a little further into the oven of the OG Solo.

Why not buy another OG Solo? OG Solos go on sale all the time and can be found, even without the sale, for under $90. Whenever a really good sale comes up I consider picking up another. The Solo is also my "recommend or buy for a new vapist" unit.

We currently have two OG Solos and if they keep making them we will keep two of them around..... One for me and one for the wife. The battery(s) died on the oldest one and I picked up a battery pack from Amazon and replaced it. Wasn't hard or complicated. The battery pack was slightly more powerful than the OG battery pack and after the replacement the Solo was BETTER than new. If you still have the broken unit you might want to pick up a battery pack after taking a look at the circuit board.

Another Solo stopped working so I bought another battery pack but it didn't work this time. I inspected the circuit board and unlike the other Solo it was a mess....coated with reclaim, dust and AVB. So now I have an extra battery pack waiting in the wings if either of the working two need a new battery pack.

At the risk of committing blasphemy (I too, am a very happy Solo albeit II, owner), have you looked into the new Arizer Air Max?
That’s certainly nice and shiny, but as I’m writing this I’m realizing you should get as much out of the Solo you have! Go forth and breathe new life into that noble Solo OG with a new battery. Long live the Solo OG!!

Thank you, that is exactly what I'd like to do, but to clarify, I was distinguishing between my original Solo and a replacement original Solo(not Solo 2) that I believe was a different generation, mainly because the performance was markedly different. If original originals were still available I will jump right onto one.
Is it possible to share links to the OG and the battery pack? I'll see about upgrading the replacement Solo with the battery pack.

Ha! I am a sucker for "nice and shiny" and am open to Arizer's other products(LOVED my Extreme 2) but could you compare, or do you know of a comparison of the performance of the Air Max to the Solo?

I love Solo2, and have owned 3 over the last few years. Two stopped functioning after about a year, both with the same issue. It would turn on, just not heat up. Anyone know if this issue has been addressed recently? Thankfully, my remaining solo2 and air2 are working just fine. Instead of ordering another Solo2, I went for the Air Max, and I'm patiently waiting on its arrival.

Here's the link to the Solo/Solo 2 battery replacement on Amazon:

Make sure to check the circuit board for issues before buying the battery pack. It's not expensive but if the circuit board is a mess the battery replacement may not work as I found out.

Arizer is selling the Solo LE (classic limited edition) for $94.99 and it comes with a free charging dock. If I remember correctly the original battery pack was 2 2800mAh and the replacement uses 2 3400mAh so you can see why the Amazon battery pack would make it better than new.

I would use the original battery pack until it needs replacement versus immediately replacing it with the 3400's. I would also wait till the 420 sales to see if more units turn up at a better price.

I'm with you here. I too find a slight advantage to the OG Solo. The model with 'true PA' ability, back before we demanded 'use while charging'. My theory is it's due to the (original) smaller ports in the cup (another 'improvement' we insisted on....). The built in restriction forced slower hits against the evil 'milkshake like restriction' the OG used. IMO Arizer experimented and decided on the smaller ports intentionally knowing the unit would be marginal WRT power. If you watch the videos of the heroes of the craft 'chalking' their glass they draw very slowly (taking a minute or so to fill a large WT) getting that lovely dense vapor? Intentionally slowing the hit down doesn't come naturally....... For sure drawing in a bunch more cool air robs the system of heat that would otherwise provide more vapor?

One other point, HH's theory, which might be true (but doesn't fit the 'original vs 'second generation' observation) points to the fact that Solo is conduction based. Convection vapes, as many here 'bouts held to be the case, would not be effected by cup depth since the good work was being done by super heated air, not conduction from the cup?

Anyway, IMO the size of the vents in the bottom of the cup might be the key to getting 'the OG performance' edge?

@OF - I applaud your consistency when it comes to the Solo and convection vs. conduction. I'm not even tempted to use the word "hybrid". :brow:

Just ordered a solo 2 and it'll be my third vape. I have dynavaps and a nova from Doug's woodery but this will be my first session vape. Is there anything I should know or expect when it arrives? I'm excited to try something different...

Expect it to arrive not fully charged (for maximum battery lifespan). Fully charge it before first use, then afterwards avoid full charges (stop at 90% or so when you can, again for maximum lifespan on the useful life of the internal battery.

Start low in temperature, say 390F, for best flavor. Grind medium to fine (although intact budlets will work) with a modest pack for best conduction without blocking air/vapor flow. It's a conduction vape so allow time for 'heat soaks' between hits for replacement heat to work into the load, Say half a minute to start with? Hit it slow for best (highest density) hits, honking on it will draw more cold air than necessary into the load robbing heat that would otherwise make more vapor.

Expect great results, you've made a very wise choice with Solo, congratulations.

I recently got a brand new Solo 1 for $45, actually 2 for $90 and gave one away as a present. From vapor.com about 6 months ago. ;-)

It's a happy reunion.
I ordered, received, and installed the replacement battery into my OG Solo, a quick and simple process with the help of the link @His_Highness provided, as well as this vid:

The difference is clear, the OG set on 5 provides equal to better performance than the 2nd gen set on 7.
It was so easy and effective that I'm considering replacing the battery on my 2nd gen.
Feels good to have revived this old friend.

Being old, the little tab holding the rubber stopper to the cap of the OG broke off. Not an issue, but if any Solo veterans have run into this, is there a home repair, or is that a replacement? It still functions, I just don't want to misplace it.

Also wondered if PVHES Turbo stems(or any equivalent) are still available, particularly angled ones. The clear tube/screen as opposed to the four small holes was a game-changer.

After two years of owning both, why am I just discovering that my e-nano stems work with my Solo2? Saw it mentioned in the comments of some old Solo2 review from 2017 this morning and immediately had to check. Looking forward to trying out my e-nano ice stem on the Solo2 tonight.

Because the original ones get a bit expensive over time.
