Newbie* question about Anvil bowls: I see lots of members with multiple bowls & know they come in 3 sizes but other than size, are there reasons to have more than one? Like do they stay hot for a while and it’s easier/quicker to swap?

If I were to get one, I’d want to get everything in one go since I understand shipping prices are rather steep. So as of now, I‘d get the Anvil and XL mp, but what else would you guys recommend? I would probably go for an XL utility case if they existed. I don’t think I’d use a half-bowl or the super-bowl honestly; full size sounds about right for me.

I use them as dosing caps. Actually, I've been thinking about a kind of carrier thingy to take them with me more easily. Swapping bowls is very easy if you have a couple lined up. I have no reason now, to pay €25 shipping for a €30 item. But if an XL case comes out, I'll try to combine them. I do want more, ha ha

Buy the case and one more bowl...really you can use same bowl back to back to back..ect....the mag cap with the case makes this easy
You dont need half bowl...just load less in full bowl...I have had a XL bowl for a few days and not tried it out yet...
I think its a mistake not to get the case...there will be a extension for it pretty soon to handle the mouthpiece

You don't need to get any extras, honestly. I'm admittedly a lightweight in Anville and mostly use the half bowl but it cools quickly and the six dollar keychain magnet turns the bowl into its own scoop to refill out of a BCG or your palm if you're careful to give it a few seconds to cool off.

Nowadays I do all my Anvil bowls as two-hitters using Whiff's technique of popping the chamber off right after the first hit. For the first hit I aim around the seam or mid-oven and even right on the copper for the second hit👌

And get that Ronx torch from my prior post. A big pointy single flame for a quick click is the only essential accessory.

The bowls stay clean really well if you empty them right away. I haven't tried the xl bowl but the other two are both great. I guess I like having the half bowl because it spares me having to resist filling the full one more than halfway

That’s the cool doodad I’ve seen in photos, usually with a badass leather case. So where does one find the six dollar keychain magnet?
EDIT: found your link to Amazon for the $6 keychain mag.

Thanks to @Roffa & @Comfortably Numb as well, this is all good information. Please keep it coming y’all!
There’s no wrong answers here, just your experiences will help.

I recently received my anvil I rather enjoy using it there is a learning curve when it comes to finding the right type of torch I've been using a dual flame scorch seems to be working out really well really the only complete that I have about this device seems to be the airflow feature because if you loosen it or restrict the airflow too much and on a water piece I like to restrict the airflow it seems the oven or copper core becomes loose and the tolerance on the o-rings is not sufficient I would like to see a better airflow control so the oven isn't so loose other than that in my rotation it seems to be the only one I've picked up for the last week or so I will say that I give this company and its founders extreme credit for their innovation and I would like to see more products and improvements made to the device over time I think after the improvements are made that it will be for a phenomenal device not that it already isn't

There are techniques that makes a stable Anvil regardless of how closed the air path is. I use the second technique ( modified ) below for a tight draw. Works perfectly.

Enjoy!

@Whiff posted:

"Also to help with the wiggling what happens is its hard to keep the oven flush to the body when closing the airflow, what i like to do is close the airport more than i want then open it back up to where i want it to be. If i want half closed and am wt wide open then i will close it to 3/4 closed then open it back up to 1/2, this will help keep the unit snug
You can also set/close your airflow then slowly turn the oven or body clockwise without applying pressure, this will screw the valve and oven back together tightly without moving the airflow...you can feel it get snug and then you can stop turning or the airflow will begin to open (its a very tiny movement)"

Hi people, maybe I'm on the hose or not, so I'd like to ask you how the joke is meant if it's one from last Sunday's post. ((( Who knows – maybe there will come a day when we will deliver a pizza with your anvil and even claim “30 minutes or it's free”?)))

I was so eager to get my Anvil because I knew this is what I was missing in my collection.

The Anvil + Full Bowl + XL MP is such an amazing native setup, I don't even use my fancy glass anymore. I wouldn't consider myself someone with iron lungs, so I am not sure why I enjoy it so much natively, it's just so smooth. And I love using it as my "desktop" setup since it's so minimal ... and hard-hitting.

the most impressive things to me are: the efficiency & how it preserves taste. With other dry herb/butane vapes, it's quick (and inevitable) to get to that "popcorn" taste. With the anvil sometimes I can go 3 heat cycles before it starts tasting spent. I often hit the 3rd heat cycle and I know it's done but the taste is still not offensively popcorny. It makes puffing on it so chill and enjoyable.

I'm not a fan of the XL Bowl, though. I'm having a lot of consistency and a good experience with the full bowl.

Does anyone think it's necessary to get the HALF BOWL or should I just half-pack the Full Bowl?

Try grabbing a nub for the Xl bowl and lightly pack it and see how you like it then. Its awesome once you dial it in, same for the full bowl.

A. John doesn’t seem to account for the cooling of the copper on the outside as it’s exposed to air temp.

B. I’m also confused? How does the copper not slide off as this ever expanding ring of air gap cools the inside faster than the outside.

C. Most importantly, I wonder if John knows 1: how many digits we calculate Pi out to and 2: if he knows how many digits of Pi we use to measure our galaxy….and why!?

Edit.

D. I’d say this has more to do with the efficiency of the heat transfer (butane consumption) than impact on the vapor. In the Dynavap system there is already an air gap used (as John explained so well that provides insulation between the hot cap and the tip) and the cool room temp air is forced between the tip and the cap, heating to the proper temp as it flows thru. Therefore the efficiency of the heat transfer is not the issue but the temp of the air based on the other variables (draw speed, torch size, heat length, outside temp, etc).

This kinda means all a user needs to do is figure out the right combo of those to make the process repeatable.

Then vary them to get what type of hit you want.

People could even post them on a forum to save others the time to figure out the timings and where to point the flame.

E: if this coefficient of heat expansion was such an issue, why does my titanium Dyna tip get hot when I heat the outside of the SS cap. Shouldn’t the air gap somehow protect the heat from getting thru?

Ha, I love John's passion and bluntness. I'm not a vestratto customer (yet), but I respect serious engineering. Won't be dropping any dimes on any simrell that's for sure.

Get the Ronx torch linked in my quoted post above. It's an excellent value and can make the Anvil click anywhere in 20 seconds.

Twisting to change the airflow confuses folks all the time but it's not even necessary: you can just screw that center piece all the way in for the most open airflow or unscrew it some for less and then put the heater side on after. The twisting only works when the friction fit of the top half is more grippy than the threads on the middle piece
Brought my Ronx with me on vacation and really love how easy flame length adjustment is.

At vapeur you can now order the
Anvil and it will be delivered in June.

Thanks I put in a pre order!

Can't wait to experience the accoladed vaporizer myself. Will be my first torch operated vape (always used IH with DV).

So I have some reading up to do lol. And I need a torch. Is there consensus on which to buy from EU for best bang for buck? I believe Ronx or something got mentioned quite often but I couldn't find it here.

In regards to the weekly post;

The Anvil is not actually competing with a 60$ entry level vape.

The price point has you competing with a very different class of devices (Sticky Brick, Vapman, TinyMight, [insert the myriad other great options]).

I don't think I would recommend an Anvil over everything else yet.

Kinda seems to me like he’s been rattled by a £10 copper sleeve, dedicating a whole Sunday post to it.

I hate to piss on his parade but it really isn’t that far off Anvil performance, despite one being a £180 device and one being a £10 piece of copper.

Besides.. why even pay it any attention if your product is that much better? You’re only legitimising it as a threat this way

There’s an American restaurant chain that famously promises to give you your food for free if it isn’t delivered within 30 minutes. This food is widely regarded as pizza by many Americans.
Ok thanks that explains it, it clicked...
