I use a kayfun V4 filled with rosin, which I thin with connoisseur concentrates terpene blend. This setup performs without trouble or waste, and a whole tank full of concentrate can be consumed without any attention or maintenance at all.

A tank holds 4ml, or 2-3 grams of concentrate depending on how much of the terpene blend is required for thinning. This setup has become my favorite portable vaporizer, by far. Not only does it deliver instant and thick vapor, but now I can easily carry a few days worth of medicine, and can use it without needing to fuss or even think about it.

That Kayfun ticks a lot of boxes for me, LayGs suck if you load more than 1 hit at a time and all the liquid tanks I try burn wicks or I get sick of tossing coils out. Trouble is I know nothing about making coils, what else would I need to get the Kayfun up and running ( I do have an istick TC40w)?

If you aren't experienced with building coils, I'd suggest starting with the Squape RS, instead of the kayfun V4.

The Kayfun works very well, but is mechanically complicated, and can be difficult to coil and re-wick because of the deck design. For those reasons, it's not an ideal tank for someone new to rebuildable atomizers.

The Squape RS works just as well as the Kayfun, but is much simpler in design and much easier to build. I have three Squapes and one Kayfun in rotatation. The Squapes are much easier to maintain, so I use them for nicotine liquid. They see much more volume put through them in that capacity- trying to maintain that many kayfuns would be a chore. The one Kayfun V4 I have is left to handle concentrates, but I'd use a Squape for that too, if I had another.

Another thing to consider is that if you're using a temperature control mod, the kayfun may not work well because it uses a spring to transmit the current at one point inside the atomizer. This can cause minor resistance fluctuations that can cause faults with the operation of temp control mods.

To build the Squape, or any other rebuildable tank you'll only need a few tools and supplies:

Wire- to wind your coil. Usually kanthal is used for power control mods, and titanium for temp control mods.

Wick- Cotton wool, hemp wool, woven silica, or stainless mesh. This is personal preference- mine is cotton.

Jewelers screwdrivers- for securing the coil to deck, which is usually done with small screws. Small screwdrivers can also be used as a coil wrapping form, if they are an appropriate diameter.

Dril bit- Commonly used as a tool to wrap a coil around, since it's easy to purchase any diameter desired.

Ceramic tip tweezers- for coil adjustment

Wire cutters- for cutting the coil wire

Small scissors- for trimming the wick

Multimeter- For checking your coil resistance and builds- probably not necessary if you're using a temp control mod that detects resistance.

Here's the most straightforward build video I could find- it shows the W deck option built with a contact coil, which is my preferred setup:

One last thing I wanted to mention is that most of my tanks are clones. I have a few originals, and they are impeccable, quality-wise. The clones are also great- they're not quite as good as the real thing, but they're usually not too far off. I'd buy all authentics if I could afford it, but I can't. So know that there's the option to get in for about 25 bucks if the original is too much at 165. An authentic Kayfun V4 is even pricier than the Squape, at 180.

Awesome, thanks for so much quality info :)!

Looks like I have about half of the list, just need the wire, wick, and ceramic tweezers. So where do you get the Squapes from (far too broke to care about clones lol ;) )? A quick ebay search turned up little for the RS....

so the single wick is that much better than the double one?
I run a single coil- .168 Ohm, 6-7 wrap 26 gauge, 2 strand twisted Ti(around the fc-2000 wick) in a UD IGO-W(and W-plus, but I think I prefer the original...) This is on a Yihi SX-Mini M Class temp control mod using the Ti setting and 21.1 Joules and 420 deg. F. This is my go to for extracts on the go, and I've tried them all. I can clean the wick, coil and RDA together in an ultra sonic cleaner with iso a few times before having to rebuild.

How do you like those ultrasonic cleaners? Do they work well for their price point (~$50)?

Well enough, I believe I paid 40 on Amazon, it's used for my wife's jewelry also. I put the RDA in a small glass jar(full of ISO)inside the ultrasonic as not to put ISO directly in the ultrasonic tank.(full of hot water)

Evic VTC mini topped with a Divine Tribe 2.7 Donut ceramic vaporizer. No wick. A temp controlled hitter wonder. Although some people keep some oil in the donut chamber, seems to me it performs best as a 1-2 hit device.

I use kayfun V4s for e-liquid, and they are flawless once you learn them, but big tanks for oil scare me. The need to use thinners and adapt the e-cig design to wicking a non-water soluble and thicker substance. If anything goes wrong, there goes a lot of expensive oil. A lot to be said for the smallest tanks and disposables.

I can't see using any of the thinners at more than a few drops per ml of oil since the natural oil is so wonderful in taste and effects. And that ratio is not usually thinned enough for most tanks. If I use more, the glycols taste mediocre, and the bulk terpenes are an unknown from a toxicity standpoint. But that's just me ... I think we'll figure out a better way.

@fernand

I've had much better luck and more reliable performance with the Kayfun than the small disposable style tanks. I understand it takes a lot of oil to fill up a big tank like that, but I appreciate having that much capacity, and consider it an advantage.

The artificial terp mixture doesn't taste as good as pure oil, that's for sure, but it's still my preferred portable tech at the moment. I agree, there is still a lot of room for improvement of these technologies.

One solution would be a heated feed path, like the fuel lines used on diesel engines adapted to run waste vegetable oil. Waste vegetable oil fuel, like cannabis oil, is too thick to feed to/through an atomizer when cool. The fuel lines for these engines are electrically heated to thin the oil so it will flow.

An oil vaporizer could have a tank that connects to the atomizer wick/surface via a heated feed line. The feed line heater would share power with the atomizer- this way it would automatically feed unadulterated oil from the pre-loaded reservoir every time the atomizer is fired, eliminating the need to reload regularly or use thinning agents.

Thanks @chainz , I hadn't seen that thread.

Why do you believe that there is something else is in the CC mix? In the thread you linked, the manufacturer states their natural line of blends only contains only natural terpenes and essential oils.

We have been assured that the terpenes are pure by the company we source from, but we have also heard reports of small amounts of ethanol in testing from a customer. I have every terpene in a lab being individually tested for ethanol as we speak.

I cant seem to find the support/ Evidence i had found during my own research. I thought they used to have another document at this link: https://www.mrextractor.com/solution/formula-documentation/

After Originally trying the solution (6 months ago probably) i was disappointed by the harsh fume like hit i got. At that time it was being actively discussed in the thread "My secret to THC E-Cig PG-Liquid... Potent, Effective, Cheap, Easy!!!"
Between my own experience and some of the reports from others in that thread i decided to do my own research and read through their website paying more attention to detail.

Unfortunately as i read through it again today, i am not able to find anything that would support my claims.

They have another line that contains artificial flavors, and it looks like those may have a little pg in them, since it's used as a carrier for some of the artificial flavors used in those blends.

It is also possible, and probable, that the flavoring used in the Flavored line contains small amounts of alcohol.

Terpenes do vaporize at room temperature. I have rosin that is greasy when it's fresh because it has such a high terpene content. If allowed to sit for long enough, the terpenes evaporate and it becomes pull-and-snap, and then eventually turns to shatter.

Terpenes are one type of aromatic chemical that plants produce. Plants can also produce esters and alcohols, and other kinds of aromatic chemicals in addition to terpenes. All these aromatic chemicals are volatile at room temperature- if they did not readily evaporate into a gas, we wouldn't be able to smell them.

Thanks for the info, i didnt know this about terpenes. Since i cannot support my claim i would just recommend that people do their own research and decide for themselves as to what they want to inhale.
My personal experience has lead me to not use the samples i have.

What flavors did you get from them, and were they all equally harsh?

I have only tried the grapefruit flavor, and find it a little harsh- I figured some of the other (non citrus) flavors might be smoother.

Should I go with FC-2000 wicks or SS mesh for a porous material inside my coils? If mesh, which is a good size for this use?

Thinking I might get more use out of the mesh

I've experimented with fc2000 and 500 diagnal cut SS mesh. I like the ceramic wicks better. I hot wrap them with a torch to get it tight. That's the biggest difference is they are a little harder to build then SS mesh but not by far because you have to torch the mesh or it'll throw your ohm reading off.

QL6FnCw.jpg

This little single FC 2000 can hold a single one hitter quitter large bb siZe of wax and you get a massive cloud and high from 1 big hit.

I wrapped it using a blowtorch because unless you miraculously find the perfect diameter core to wrap on your wire will be too springy to wrap it like you wrap a screw driver and the wick will be loose.

New to coil building here and I've been trying to wrap a coil with a stove top design that would lay flat on the RDA base (just barely above it though, not touching), unlike a barrel, so as to 'slow vape' concentrates in a puddle, instead of dabbing individual pieces. Similar to something like this:

I installed this 2nd coil because my 1st one, after a few successful dabs and 1 or two not so successful ones, had concentrate starting to pool under it (even with SS) so I removed it. This has a SS mesh bottom piece as well as a rolled piece inside. It's also very slightly angled so the bottom wire gets as close as possible to the RDA deck, with the hope that I avoid potential pooling and trapped concentrate.

Testing in an hour or so..

Pardon my dumb but would any of these work?

Well, it's been fun, but my temporary trip into coil dabbing has some to an end. Got an enail desktop rig that should be finished in a few days and a new clearomizer for vape juice just arrived today!

Oven cleaning the RTA worked out pretty alright, too. Still had to do an ISO wash to get everything off, though.

damn ive been gone for too long. how are my pocket dabbing heads doing?

i see some talk of tanks in here on this page? are heads loading larger amounts into a tank or has this thread gotten into liquids as well?

im on the hunt for a new two post RDA. ive got a stubby and have been using it forever. ive been wondering about flavor in an RDA. i know that with evaping that those guys say the smaller the internal/overall the RDA is the better flavor. wondering if that rule applies to errl as well. my stubby is very small and produces great flavor, but im looking for something new.

been over to 3F and see what theyve got a few more two post design RDAs with potential. some of them are larger and im wondering if id notice a decrease in flavor. then i saw the "lowpro" RDA and its fucking tiny, but im worried that the coil will be waaaaay too close to the mouth when ripping errl off if it.

anyway... feels good to be back home!

I am still running the stripped down rose v2 atty and the round fc2000 wicks for errl. I wrap it with one coil only now about 10 wraps in 24g ti @ .45 ohms.

No tanks for me yet.

Edit:. Plus a bit of silicone tube for sealing to a 14mm joint.

so no clapton? just straight wire and fc2000?

what are your thoughts on internal space and flavor? in regards to more or less?

Yeah, I still have not tried Clapton yet. Just straight wire and doughnut wick here. I did have to bump the temp up to 520f when switching to the single coil for clouds.

As for space, I like this one because it is so compact. Any splatter just drips back down with a little heat. If you want more space, you can take out the ceramic cup and run without but I have not yet.

The flavor is good for me. 3-4 weeks on this coil and it still hits hard.

Is Ti bad to use yet? Lol.

Still want to try stainless but when it's not broken....don't fix it, i say. :)

as far as i know Ti is only bad if it oxidizes. so if your keeping tabs on temp we should be fine. im curious about SS wire as well, but i know that Ti is one of the most inert materials known to man. i cannot imagine that SS could be more safe than Ti. it may be as safe though within certain temps. im going to stick with Ti until i hear/read otherwise personally.

and i still have never posted my current build. ive decribed it before, but never posted it. its a micro coil with a clapton wrapped around it. so basically the inner micro coil takes the place of a wick/fc2000. the clapton holds the errl due to the "capilary" effect and the inner coil will vape the errl also instead of absorbing it like a wick. more surface area = more clouds. the outter clapton can get gunky after quite a bit of use, but even when it does a fresh dab still tastes amazing.

the coil im using now is MONTHS old. lol. it looks like shit and isnt as efficient as it used to be, but it still tastes great and ive been procrastinating on building a new one. me thinks this weekend will be good for a new build. i need a new RDA now though. liking the looks of that Aeronaught. looks like lots of space between the posts.

more to come.

My current RDA dab setup is just a dual clapton build, no wick. I load both wicks but only with enough oil to do in one go, on an RDA that is built for clouds and not flavor, and get minimal splatter. The space and nooks and crannies in the clapton coils seem to hold the oil very well. Just kanthal claptons at low watts, I imagine with SS or Ti it would be even better with temp control.

so what two post RDAs are yall using out there? my stumpy is great, but looking for something with more space between the posts.

currently checking out the aeronaught, but not convinced its a good choice considering the air flow paths. regarding reclaim leaking.

also found one last night that has clamping plates for the leads. looks promising, but cant find it now.

what say you?

I'm looking to get a new setup, but the stumpy RDA I was going to get is currently out of stock on fasttech. Are there any other good 2 post RDAs people recommend? I'm also trying to decide on which TC mod to get. I want it to be as low profile as possible, but I also need temp control and regulation. Thinking of the IPV D3 or the istick pico. Istick has a bad rep, so I'm hesitant to go for them, but the pico looks nice. I've also considered going for an even smaller mod like the volt mini.

I'm also interested in hearing other peoples opinions about using oil in the super low profile RDAs. My plan is to get 5 or 6 RDAs that I can preload and fit in my pocket so I don't have to bother with reloading when I'm out. I should also not I'm only using this for oil, so I don't need the extra battery power for ejuice.

i dont get much concentrates anymore, due to being in a non legal state. buut im about to move to southern california at the end of the year, so that will change.

still use and like my aeronaut and evil monk rda. always looking for something new to try but never really see anything. i really need a taller cap for my evil monk, mine is too low, not enough room for bigger coils i want to try.

just saw these, interested in trying them out. maybe with a quartz rod as a wick type deal - http://www.lightningvapes.com/collections/wire/products/ijoy-tss-coil-3-5mm-10pcs-for-tornado-rta
