I have to agree with @badbee that it is unlikely that the mAh values matter that much ... I'm not sure how it would actually read this either as I have no idea how it would (beyond estimation as @badbee mentioned) I would tend to agree that charge/discharge should only be limited by cut-off...

You could do it with a simple open source bluetooth LE app as well that allows reading/writing characteristics (assuming it lets you write this characteristic) Here's the UUID's you need to actually know what you are looking at...

In the way it is used here I see no issues. It is acting as a heat sink, not a cooking surface that gets scratched where one would actually consume any aluminum. aluminum oxidizes in air extremely quickly, making it highly unlikely that in this usage you would have any exposure to aluminum...
