bio - The Osage Orange can be quite dense. I have yet to make one from it, but expect it would run a little cooler as the wood is more dense and better at conducting heat. I am going to try a Black Walnut TT next. I expect it to run a little hotter as the wood is not as dense and not as good at...
Thanks all. It is difficult for me to throw away even the smallest pieces of wood. You never know what you might be able to make. I love it when I can give them new life / purpose. A piano key that once made beautiful music can now provide beautiful medication. The wood tubes will season over...
I have been wanting to make one of these for a while. It is a Toasty Tube made from an Ebony wood piano key. I bought a bunch a while back on ebay. They also work great for pen / pencils. A great way to recycle wood.
The wood is 3.25" long and 0.4" in diameter. It has a 15/64" hole down the...
Here is the information I posted under the Solo thread. This is probably a better place to discuss this subject anyhow.
The Wicked Lasers Torch flashlight. 100watt halogen lamp and 4100 lumens. That should get hot enough to vaporize. The cost is within the range of a vaporizer too. I can see...
Exactly! The temperature can be controlled by how close you get the light to the herb. Care must be taken to not combust, but this is the case with many vaporizers.
Was thinking about high power flashlights after reading a post from Egzoset. Then I found this video someone had posted over on GS. It is definitely possible and very effective. I can see a whole new style of portable vaporizers.
Flashlight Vaporizing
There is always the Wicked Lasers Torch flashlight. 100watt halogen lamp and 4100 lumens. That should get hot enough to vaporize. The cost is within the range of a vaporizer too. I can see some sort glass enclosure that holds the herb and you just shine the light through it. Maybe something that...
Thanks mom and underdog. It is some amazing wood. I may have to get some more of it.
Got my new silicone tubing. It works great. Time to start cutting.
I'm not sure how much the silicone will off gas without exceeding its temperature limits. The top doesn't get over 500F does it?
Of course if the top ring does not provide a tight seal to the bowl / air path, then the silicone probably won't help.
I have failed miserably at trying to explain. I wish I had a Solo glass tube that I could use and take a photo to explain better.
The silicone does not fit into the heat port. It is too big. Only the glass goes into the heat port. The glass cannot go all the way into the heat port because of the...
Have you tried the silicone tubing on the other end of the glass tube? The end that inserts into the heat port? The silicone tubing does not go all the way to the end. It still allows the glass to go into the heat port of the Solo.
I did not suggest that they be used on the Solo. I was suggesting adding a high temp silicone sleeve to the outside of a Solo glass tube. I was only providing a photo for an example. A short section of silicone tubing from a whip vaporizer should be about the right size to stretch over the Solo...
Has anyone with a Solo tried stretching a short section of high temperature silicone tubing over the outside of their glass tube to get a better seal? The silicone tubing would be positioned so that the glass still extends most of the way down into the bowl, but the silicone seals at the top of...
Is it the bottom that is out of round or are you finding the top changing shape?
I have found that the bigger the hole in the wood, the more it will change dimensions. That is just the fickle nature of wood.
Rick - I want to make up some silicone sleeves to try on a Zap tube. What is the length of the exposed stainless / brass tubing on a Zap tube? Do you know if Ed uses the same length? Ed?
I like how you have your website. It is nice that they can see what they are getting and you don't have the...
Thanks much Orestes and Ed. Sorry to tease gvape. I had almost given up hope on the wood. One end had a crack big enough for a quarter to fit in and then it closed tightly back together. I was shocked. I think the microwave forced the moisture in the center of the wood back into those outer...
