    Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

@farscaper What kind of numbers did you think the small press is putting down? I've been trying to calculate a rough estimate, but the D-nail mechanism is more complicated than a simple class 1 lever (below). Found this diagram online which seems to be closer to the D-nail mechanism: So if...

Haha thanks...it's often said imitation is the greatest form of flattery :D To stabilize the press I tried clamping it to a table, having a friend stand on the back, but the best option was bolting it to a piece of plywood. Then for extra support you can just wedge the back end under something...

I've used 25um and 90um screens (nylon mesh) when I pressed bigger amounts (1g+). Works pretty well but the screen needs to be wrapped tight around the bud and the excess tucked under, otherwise it'll suck up your yield. I'm no electronics expert but I'd start by visually inspecting the dead...

someone on IC Mag had some SS plates made to try this with. Idk if he had any success but metal plates will retain heat much longer than parchment. This will decarb the rosin until you scrape it off or cool the plates down.

I've hit 20% with a good strain and grower. And also 10% from the same grower but different strain. Basically rosin is going to be quite a bit more expensive ($50/g @ 20% yield) than the $25 BHO, but it will prob taste a lot better.

Nice looking setup! I'm moving away from the arbor press personally. With my lever extension, the pressure was overwhelming the plates I could build in my living room workshop. Also w/ my longer lever it wasn't really ideal for one-man operation, since the plates were just slightly out of...

Alright I came up with 2 quick solutions that might work better than the cast iron: 1. If you have a garlic press, cover the holes w/ a small coin or piece of metal (I'd cut a piece out of a can). Heat in the oven and you're good to go. 2. Heat 2 butter knives in the oven. Once hot press...

@BoogerMan I'd use the smallest pan you have, ideally with a shim under it, so you can reduce the pressing area as much as possible. Let's say you weigh 150 lbs and stand on a 9" pan. With its 63 sq in area, you'll only be putting down a little over 2 PSI. I don't think that's enough for...

It sounds like the sapphire insert isn't flush against the nail bottom, allowing it to remain cooler than the actual nail. Then when you add the carb cap, it contacts the nail, heating up, which in turn heats up the air coming through carb and vaporizes your concentrate. this pic from the d-nail...

Haha I imagine that rosin juice would taste like straight chlorophyl:puke: I JB-Welded some plates to the the vice grip clamps. I'm heating it by squeezing the hair iron strip heaters in between the plates. Works almost as well as the arbor press.

yeah if there's a lot of small plant matter it's gonna be harder to get clean rosin, since those particles will get pushed through the screen. I've used these pressing screens as a filter before and they work decent. Just compress the hash into a little log and wrap it in a couple layers. You...

I tried this with my harbor freight locking c-clamp pliers and it worked pretty well. temp control was difficult though since my IR gun can't read bare metals accurately. I tested it by pressing some printer paper and observing the discoloration. Once the discoloration lightened and eventually...

getting it back to a slab?

coffee warmer plate works great for this. hold it on there for like 2 seconds/side and then roll it out with something smooth (I usually use a drinking glass)

    Vac Purge of BHO

pretty much what you said- less waxy components make it into the end product since when cold they do not dissolve as readily as terpenes and THC. there's no secondary filter or cooling, so I guess it's not really a traditional dewax but I couldn't think of a better term. if you're getting...

    Edibles dose calculations?

I doubt there's a calc but the math is pretty easy. Here's an example... This recipe (my favorite for choc chip cookies) says it can make around 60 cookies but for me it's always been closer to ~45. Now to get 10mg per cookie you'll need 450mg THC (45 servings x 10mg). Let's say you have 1...

nearly a 70% return from some dispensary bubble: pressed through a 90um screen. material was maybe half melt and would barely stick together when pressed by hand. curious if a 25um screen would have improved clarity.

    Vac Purge of BHO

Sounds like your BHO is autobuddering in the chamber. Some strains (such as blue dream) are more prone to do so, but typically that's attributed to high heat during the purge or lots of plant waxes remaining in the oil. Are you dewaxing or winterizing? I suspect that's going to be your...

double sided foiling tape is not a bad idea. I'll prob end up using that on my next iteration of the plates. speaking of which, is going to happen sooner than later. I realized that the steel I used (3/16" flat bar ) is just not rigid enough to use unsupported. check out how the top half is...

@GuyLeDuche I haven't actually rosined anything with the adjustable revlon yet- I made some new plates out of a cast iron bar that've been a real hassle to mount onto the arbor press. But when I did the temperature check, I just turned the dial all the way to the right (counterclockwise)...

    Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

@GuyLeDuche in terms of temperature control, this revlon is the best one I bought (reads ~240° with an IR gun after 10 min on the lowest setting). I'm just pulling the strip heaters to use on my arbor press so Idk how well the hair irons will work by themselves. If you want a recommendation...
