Also, since you have one of the earlier units, ask Joe to replace the coil posts. The new coil post configuration is much easier to replace the coil and angle properly.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestion, OF. I will follow through with the advice. Joe took good care of me way back when, I just kinda gave up after some less than stellar performance. The software was still being tweaked at that time. Really appreciate having your direction, convection trumps conduction for me.

You're quite welcome, glad to help when I can.

IMO it's kind of a sin to hide it in a drawer because it's lame, it should be with you, spreading joy and happiness........

Joe is, I think, the key to getting there. Good man, dedicated to making 'happy campers' it seems.

Contact him, get a RMA number, send the power unit to him (I used the small Priority Mail package which it fits very well). The sooner you get it out, the faster you get it back.......and get back to enjoying it.

Dammit! I really want this machine to work right. I can see why this vape has been walked away from with disgust.
I hear you and feel your pain!
Don't they have a lifetime warranty?
At $25 minimum shipping, this can add up pretty quick for an already very expensive vape. I paid retail minus the FC discount, from iPuffUSA.
I suggest seriously consider sending it in, better than letting it sit in a drawer?
Cheaper and a lot less frustration to just let it sit in a drawer, IMO!

Still own one of my original EV's and I still have not been able to connect to a software version that will load on Mac without crashing immediately. Have sent the vape back to ipuff on 2 different occasions, still have shitty battery life and no way to adjust factory heat settings. Now the sensor that initiates a heat response does not engage reliably. Dammit! I really want this machine to work right. I can see why this vape has been walked away from with disgust. Maybe the newer versions are better, mine is #00028.

#00048 still going strong! Still having the kind of results you initially had way back when, have sent it to Joe once a while back just for software update and coil tweak. I still have the old battery life use while charging firmware though, and old post configuration too, but a newer bigger coil now. Also PC user so no Mac issues. I don't know why some seem to struggle, but that's just nature of this vape I guess, tricky for some, amazing for others

Where does that come from? I paid seven, and could have sent it for half that (slower, without tracking).

It adds up much slower at that (more realistic) rate.......

My opinion is that is foolish. If you don't want to invest a few bucks to get it right, why sit on it? Either sell it 'as is' to someone (I bet you'll get at least $150 since it's new owner will no doubt want it sent in......) and you free up some drawer space. Or just throw it out and at least get the drawer space? Storing broken gear you've no intention of ever fixing/using doesn't make sense to me.

When did the post configuration change? I never had any problems regarding that. The bigger coil does sound tempting tho. I also couldn't get the new app to work, But i'm going to let a friend that know's what there doing give it a try. I don't feel i get the greatest battery life, But for what i use it for it has not really been a big issue.

I'm in Canada, remember. Due to custom's regulations, I cannot use a padded 'document' envelope, and there's no way I'd send it without tracking.

I believe it is equally foolish to keep sending it in only to have it returned still not working.
I may try the 'as is' route, however I don't feel good selling someone something that isn't working.

I wasn't aware the OP was in Canada. It works the other way, too. We pay a premium to go to Canada despite the 'fact' there's basically no place in Canada more than a few dozen miles from the US? It's the way postage works I guess.

I think the decision to buy imported goods should include 'am I willing to pay my part of warranty repair shipments?'.

As to selling it "as is" I see no issue provided you are clear up front. From a buyer POV it's 'good as new' when it goes through the shop on the way and half price? When I bought my $150 'demo' I planned to send it in for updates/checkout since it wasn't NIB. I've bought and sold used gear this way a number of times over the years (not vapes yet) and consider it part of the cost. As I've said already 'nobody needs 3 ESVs' or I'd offer you $150 for yours and am confident I'm not alone in that.

Your call, but my recommendations to you are the same as the OP. Fix it and use it, sell it as is and recover some of your money, but leaving it in a drawer and stressing over it would not be my first choice.....or recommendation.

@blackbur
I bought mine in mid-March 2015 and I have only posted within the last few pages in this thread. You could probably gather a good bit from there, but here is a little more:

I'm number A001143.

I started vaping with the MFLB around Christmas...never vaped before then. The MFLB got me to dislike the taste of combustion enough that I stopped smoking/combusting within about a month. I bought the Elevape to replace my MFLB as I got more familiar with the portable vaporizers on the market. I did a lot of reading/lurking before I bought my ESV. I kinda knew what I could be getting into when I bought it because I had already read much of the thread. The ESV just appealed to me more than the Crafty or FF or really any of the vapes that were currently on the market at that time. I even considered the $500+ portables. I really wanted something that would mirror the use of the MFLB but only simplify it and provide larger hits.

The first hit from the ESV, I knew I had made the right choice. I paid full price minus FC discount and am very satisfied. I had to send my ESV back twice and each time I went 6-7 days without my device which was mostly shipping time (coast to coast). Joe had my ESV repaired quickly both times and sent it back to me right away. I have not had to send it back since April and the ESV has been my workhorse. It's not my go-to vape, it's my got to have it vape. I have used the term workhorse because I basically use it in one session until I kill the battery almost...well it will be down to 20-25% typically. I'll do this 3-4 times a day typically and sometimes a random smaller session in between the battery killing sessions.

My temp settings are 310/320/335. These temp settings are obviously not accurate, but I love the flavor at 310. I get clouds on all 3 settings but they increase in volume and density as I raise the temp setting. I can get 15-20 hits on setting 1 but will struggle at the end to get out all my goodies so some hits will get wispy. 320 will get everything out in about 10-16 hits and they will all be huge tasty clouds with a slight harshness towards the end of each hit for the last 4-5 hits. I can kill a bowl in 6-8 hits on 335. My ABV will be very dark brown (it appears black unless under bright light). On 335, the vapor is still cool but has a density to it that makes it even harsher for me and the good taste gets effected by the trailing taste of border-line combustion.

I don't cough to much when hitting the ESV so I would say the vapor is very smooth. I also use the stir lid attachment to get a pretty even ABV. I cut the stir lid down to minimize its coverage of the screen and to eliminate some of the heat retainage. My coil is bent down and I have a modified mouthpiece I posted a page or so back.

The Elevape did take some effort for me to get it to be a consistent powerhouse like I wanted it to be. I had plenty of trial and error along the way. I read the whole thread and really related to many of the negative posts that have been in her, but like many that have stuck with the ESV I have found great success in it.

Great 'repost'. I recall the first and you're right there was new information/insights this time.

I agree with you about settings. The most useful guide is that bigger numbers are hotter. I have two units (one on loan right now). When I had them together I was able to tune the new one (actually 'first 100') to match the one I was already using and happy with. This was a fairly careful A/B test, alternate hits starting with full charges and fresh bowls. My notes say the two are now set to levels 1, 3, and 6 on one and 8, 10, and 14 on the other. I'm confident that the 'offset' is due to the coil/sensor window differences, the two coils ended up at different angles getting the heat across the load uniform. They both 'vape the same' on switch settings 1, 2, and 3.

You're also right I think about the nature of the beast. It's not for casual users. Lots going on. It's no Toyota for sure. A useful tool, but for the specialist? The rewards are there, but you have to work a bit sometimes to get there.

Kudos on reading the thread. It too can be a trial but there's useful stuff in there. No need to repeat errors others have reportd.

Thanks again for the excellent post. I think you've captured lots of good stuff.

Received RMA from Joe to send ESV in for a tune up. Should it be sent UPS,FED X, USPS or does it matter?

I'd like to thank you all for keeping this going. @IAmKrazy2 had a model I took off his hands that arrived today. It's now charging but reading through a lot of pages know this needs to be sent in.

So tempted to try it but best to be safe.

Looking forward to the evolution of the ESV!

... now to hit my plug-in while I wait

I don't think it matters. I used the smallest Priority Mail box (USPS). It fits very nice an was a flat six (or was it 7?) bucks with tracking/insurance. Took two days to get there.

I was bored about the woobly/loosely mouthpiece and replaced it with a piece of my Inhalater Xp hygienic tips, it fits perfectly without any leaks and improves a lot the airflow, i put too a glass mp which fit into the hygienic tip...I will post pictures later.

This vape is my portable dailydriver now, on demand super tasty and smooth vapor!

The new software resolved my batteries issues (but still can't get the 80 hits per charge claimed..)

I hope they are working on a stealthier version of this vape, I never take it with me when I quit my home, I prefer some stealthier vapes (alfa, storm, xp,boss,;..;)

Thanks Ipuff for this trully unique vape

Funny, my 'issues' came down to wobbly MP as well (once I'd sorted out coil placement, heat levels and so on). I also didn't like the metal (I kept banging my teeth when not paying attention.....). I found a plastic MP that fit much better and never looked back.

I agree, the update improves battery life a lot. I think you can get 80 'puffs' out of a charge, they'll just have to be smaller/faster hits than I take. Sipping on that sucker for the full 8 seconds seems to eat up the battery faster?

While I really appreciate the way it's built, I agree a packaging redesign is in order if you want more stealth. That part should be easy compared to making the sucker work as well as it does......

Agreed, the original delrin mouthpiece is perfect imo, haven't used the aluminum one since I got that one from Joe

I was just shopping online for delrin mouthpieces.

On a side note, wow! Great CS @Ipuffusa. I emailed and just as I hit send Joe calls me under a minute! He gave me an RMA right away. Can't wait to get it back and finally try it.

It's #105 and unused so I just didn't bother with it and just sent it in.

Hard to beat service like that!

You might ask Joe about the Delrin MPs, while I haven't, IIRC others have got them from him? I had a 'perfect' one on an old vape pen, I suspect it's a standard size.

:bang: Didn't ask him about the tips. I was just taken back by the quick turn around call that was a loss for words.
