Discontinued Elevape SV

I guess what confused me, was I saw a video where the guy was replacing it, and it looked like he was pulling from a pack of 5. Usually when I buy something, I go ahead and purchase any parts that may need to be replaced down the road. Can't find them for sale anywhere.
@nosmoking Thanks! Nevermind

That was Dr. Vape's video which really should be on the ElevapeSmart website as a tutorial. I recall him having 5 as well but I am not sure why. I have bought them since and it is definitely a 4 pack.

I would recommend stocking up on the screens. It is not necessary, but it makes life so much easier. I carry around 5 screens on me at the beginning of the week and by the end of each day I usually take the dirty screen out and install a new clean one for the next day or my last bowl of that day. At the end of the week I have 5 screens to clean. A torch and 25 seconds and I'm all back to clean, however torching the screens will eventually lead to their demise so this is why I recommend stocking up and getting about 10.

Another thing I would do is request that Joe send you a screw incase you choose to remove the stir lid. I bought mine direct from Joe in March and it came with a stir cap instead of a screw going through the screen. I wish I had the screw as the stir cap seems to retain heat and my sessions are long so this becomes a big factor. I am typically on the edge of charring my flowers with the stir cap...still no combustion!

This 'he got more' thing has come up before. It's pretty clear they like him more than us. Some even whisper he married the Boss' daughter.

I doubt that though.

You're right on the video, it's useful at several levels I think.

His video is what really sold me honestly, however I probably would have given up on the vape had it not been for all the great posts by Dr. Vape and EveryDayAmnesiac. I know EDA was banned from this thread, however his posts were some of the most insightful in this thread.

Update on my experience so far:

After 4 weeks, I received my supposedly repaired Elevape yesterday. Plugged it into my laptop, the software reported 58% charge. The indicator bar moved from 58% to 59% after half an hour. Decided to charge it from a wall outlet using the stock Elevape cable and adapter.

Well. After 24 straight hours of charging and no green light, I plugged it back into my laptop to check the battery charge level. The level was at 61% after 24 hours. Only 2% charged in 24 hours!

So I waited almost a whole month for them to fix the vape and it comes back defective. WTF? Did no one do a simple diagnostic or any QC on it before sending it back to me? As it stands now, I have no option but to get back in touch with the Elevape people and wait for who knows how long to get this fixed. Again.

And where's Ipuffusa? I thought the manufacturer was going to be active here, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. He hasn't been back to the forum since posting on May 7th.

I'm so frustrated I can't think straight or even begin to explain how I feel right now. Aarrrrghhh! :bang:

Hmmn, know the feeling. Over a year since marduk's post and I'm experiencing similar issues, both with the vape and the service from iPuffUSA.
After discussing with Joe, performing firmware and software updates, and sending the unit back to be repaired, I still have a useless ESV.
Same excuses, bad coils, firmware needs updating, battery cells defective, air leaks... rince and repeat!
No shit, that's why I sent it in. But to get it back with no tracking, no indication to what was wrong or what had been done? Total BS.
If there's anyone with an ESV in the Montreal area that would like to demonstrate to me that this device does work, please shoot me a PM if you'd like to get together.
I still maintain that this vape is a damned good prototype!

Sorry you're having trouble with yours, but I can assure you the two I own work just fine although one had to go it to get the software upgraded, which was fast and effective and reported here. There are probably over 100 posts of happy owners in thread? At least some of us are real.......

ESV does work for me. Too bad you're up there rather than down here or I'd show you?

BTW with something over 1000 units built it's anything but a prototype at this point IMO. I do agree, it's an excellent vape?

I'd contact Joe, he's a reasonable fellow to chat with on the phone. It makes sense to me that if it 'passed' and was shipped to you TWICE it's not something being checked for? Sending it in without specific contact and discussion is likely to make that 3 times?

Good luck, IMO it's well worth getting it working right.

I'm not sure if I updated that update way back when, but it turned out that the problem was simply a bad charger and cable. So they did fix it and update the firmware and all was well, I just didn't know it at the time. I haven't used it much since I got my Crafty, but it still works perfectly.

Thanks for the words of encouragement OF. Unfortunately, I'm thoroughly discouraged with my ESV experience and am throwing in the towel.
I've discussed in great detail with Joe, both email and phone calls. Plenty of opportunity to 'make things right'.
I've spent more time tinkering, troubleshooting, cleaning, reading this thread, in essence giving it more attention than my other vapes combined, and in return only twice got noticeable effects.

You're welcome, and it's certainly your call, but as you might have just seen in Marduks update, you're basically alone in this problem????

Unfortunately, something is amiss. Not your problem to solve from one POV.

However, that defective unit you have gathering dust is still under warranty........I suggest offering it for sale 'as is' at some reasonable discount? You could offer to drop ship it to Joe for the new owner? There have been several reports of charger and cable problems as Marduks points out. That might be worth a try?

From the sounds of it, your issue does not seem similar to @marduk at all. From what I read @marduk had all indications of a faulty charging system. From what you explain in the above quotes it sounds like you possibly have had multiple issues that are not related to the charging system. Is your elevape charging correctly or not?

The Elevape SV can be a finicky device that can require much more attention than most devices to get it tuned in, but once you get it tuned in if you do it can be a very powerful player. I happen to feel the output and efficiency from the ESV is much better for me than other currently available electric portable devices yet I still hate that I have to go through certain rituals with it. I still use it every day like a workhorse

Correct. I can charge n/p if I don't use the included cable and charger, which I've commented on earlier.
The issue lies somewhere with the breath detection/activation. Joe even had me open the device further to expose the main board and breath sensor tube - to verify that the sensor tube was seated properly, which it was.
As it stands, I have to inhale like a banshee, and continue thru, in order to get the red led and the coil to heat up. But no significant vapor. Probably due to the cooling effect of my massive draw.
If I were to take a relaxed inhale, the device won't activate.
Joe suggested an 'air leak'. I thought the same, so I tried wrapping electrical tape around the entire unit - except for the USB port, of course. Same issue, no improvement.
Sent it in to iPuffUSA shortly thereafter and when I got it back it was as if it hadn't even been looked at. Could have just been repackaged and returned, as far as I'm concerned.
Again, contacted Joe several times to inquire what, if anything had been done. He told me they swapped out the battery and replaced the coil. Battery, sure, but the coil? I put a new one in before it left. Joe explained that it's standard procedure to replace the coil. OK, fair enough but what about the sensor and possible 'air leak'?
As OF mentioned, it is still under warranty but at $$ shipping every time only to get it back not functioning?
I've got to cut my losses and move on.

@tripwire did the tube show any signs of being squished? Just thinking out loud please forgive if I missed it before. Have you tried to activate the device by blowing (semi-softly)into the usb port. This should activate the heating coil. Is the screen behind the mouthpiece clean? Did you try using it with out that screen in place? Is your lid screen clean and the air channels free from debris? Um... I will keep pondering
Can you activate it with the chamber lid off and your thumb covering the bowl?

I think without having seen or used it, it may be a misalignment of the lid channels to the body channels. Does everything seem to line up ok. Does your resistance decrease if you turn the lid? By that I mean does it activate with a easier draw

Nope. Tube was undamaged and seated properly.

Yup. Several times! Always activated.

Yup. Everything gets cleaned and ISO'd before testing. Tried with/without mouthpiece screen. Tried with/without stir lid.

Yup.

I have tried this but can't say that I notice a difference.

Tolerances and alignment of components appear to be 100%. Screws are tight.

Thanks 1_gr8_underdog, all great suggestions!

I just received an esv I bought from a fc member. It had been sent in for coil work and I assume an upgrade because it has 103 on the box? Anyway after a little trill and error I got it to charge fully on the pc. Prior to that I charged for 5 hours on wall but no full charge.

Tried it out and it worked great for 2 sessions. Not sure about number of hits it was quite efficient, effective, and tasty. Anyway plugged back in and down to 30%. Is that normal? 340, 370, and 405.

Otherwise this thing is amazing. No burning just vape awesomeness.

I also need to get a hold of a manual. Was thinking of calling joe. I have original reciept.

Depending on how hard you hit and how far you vape the goods that's probably pretty reasonable. It doesn't carry a lot of battery to do a lot of sessions, but it's very good at a lot of 'top up hits' one or two at a time.

This should get you started on the manual issue:

By all means enjoy it, IMO it's a fun and effective little vape.......got one right here, just in case.

The one thing i can't figure out is why the battery charging indicator won't turn green. Unless I unplug and re plug the unit in. Happens when pc shows battery hovering at 99%. Anyone have any experience?

Thanks for the manual OF!

Thanks for the manual OF!

Yes, lots of people have reported similar problems, one in the last week? Chargers and/or cables seem to be the usual issue? Check out post 1959 up this page.

You're welcome. Easy Google search for "Elevape Smart manual" IIRC.

Thanks for the manual OF!

Also bc it trickle chagres at the end, stops charging and starts again back and forth when 100% is hit to preserve battery life, just pull it off at 99% its fine and normal

Well I did make that attempt but for some reason I didn't find it. Maybe didn't click the right links or had experimented with the esv too much. I did search tho lol.

No worries, like I said, easy search. The second return, the first .pdf (which is what I was looking for...):
https://www.google.com/#q=Elevape+Smart+manual

Well by experiment I meant got stoned.

I love the esv, this thing is a game changer. I was going to pass this down to a friend as his first vape once I get my gh. NOW I'm not sure I'll be able to let either go. Depending on how the gh turns out I might give him that, lol.

I know I saw it somewhere on this thread. I will try to search for this next bit.

Looking for info about compatable external batteries for the esv. I really want to use this for my outdoor activities such as fishing bUT 1 or 2 fillings before recharge might not get through the day.

There are lots of "Power Banks" that will do this fine. They have USB ports that charge phones, MP3 players and so on. Some take 18650s, some internal batteries, some have solar chargers built in......
