Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Sorry to hear digger42. Maybe we should start marking down serial numbers/batches of failed ascents. Even color.

Only a little useful at best (statistics of small groups and all....) I think, and that even only if there is actually a difference between the numbers which the maker says there isn't. In fact, he reused some numbers IIRC?

The important part is as long as you buy from a legitimate source, 'they' will make it right should you have problems. It's worth noting that very few aren't delighted with theirs once they get to vaping with it. IMO no need to shy away.

My unit is 1AA1. Does that mean it WILL die??

Of course it will, provided you like and use it enough. It is supported well, and should it falter it'll be repaired/replaced as agreed. IMO you'll like it so much wearing one out isn't seen as a bad thing, many of us have more than one you know. I've loaned my spare out several times, making new friends.

It's a tool, and IMO a very good one. Tools are meant to be used to do a useful job, my advice is to do so without fear or concern. Enjoy it.

Hey all, new here, quick question about the Ascent. I've been tracking this forever and can now finally get one at a shop tomorrow.

However, everyone here seems to be getting them straight from DV. I know there's been some bad units shipped... Any way to tell before buying? Serial # on the box, or something? And would it be advised to not get it in store, will the warranty cover even if not bought online from them directly?

Pumped for tomorrow. Thanks!!!

Meh....based on this review, still makes me hesitant to get one. Efficiency is very important to me.

Still hoping for lots of improvements before I order.

Hey FC Members,

I wanted to pop in and let you guys know

Also a quick update: The first spacer sample the factory sent me was a complete fail, so that's still in development. Seems like it should be easy, right?

@Davinci_vaporizer Thanks for the update on the spacer.

Even though it did not work, it is the closest thing to an official notification that DV IS in fact looking for some form of spacer. Do you know if suggestions from this thread are looked at by those trying to come up with a solution?

Yes, holes in the bottom of the jars IS easy.

Didn't drill any holes in the bottom of my jars but they still worked great.

Finally got a diamond tipped dremel bit. It's a pointed engraving bit. Fucked up the first jar because I went too fast and without liquid and needed something to hold it steady.
Decided to press the jar open side down into an apple. Yes an apple that you eat. This kept it steady and the juice from the apple kept the temp down. Successfully drilled two holes in the bottom starting on (for the dremel), low rpm. then higher with plenty of breaks to make sure it was going well. Drilled two jars with clean holes though you have to be careful just as it drills through. Because the bit is tapered the hole could get too big or break.

All was very good, better than undrilled jars, better (yes) than flowers and better than sea glass. You can only put so much herb under one of these, so it helped massively with efficiency. Got bigger clouds without having to go beyond 380 degrees. Still have to pause a bit between hits, but not as long.
Then I dropped one on my tile floor. :( Then, one was stuck b/c of sticky resin and I broke it getting it out. Should have poked it from the bottom holes. Shit two down in one day. :/

Ground the edges off some sea glass to make it fit without getting stuck in any direction this'll have to do for now.
I'll drill the last two jars tonight and be more careful.

Got to put it next to my buddy's pax. Taste is better on the ascent, but on the stealth factor pax wins. The unit gets as smelly as the product you're vaping and the Irene kush I have is quite pungent. I need a good small odor proof case to be able to take it into places with close quarters - bus, train elevators etc. but very happy with performance.

Yes, isolate vibration & low RPM are the key to drilling holes in the jars. Very easy once you get the hang of it.
Glad someone else is finally reporting in with the same kind of results I have with two holes in the bottom of the jar. And yes, much better then flowers.
Clean often. Keep a jar lid handy for when they get stuck. Press it on and use the tool to remove.
If ground well, you will be amazed at how much will pack under the jar.
For me, 370F, bakes nice little cakes that I blow out.

When home, I use an empty tuna fish can to support the unit when filling. Just the correct height and the magnet in the top part of the unit holds well.

I use a golf tee to push out the screen stem. The flared part of this is EXTREMELY FRAGILE. I use a small Gum cleaning plastic brush to poke the holes with. Metal and glass do not mix.

Just a bit of an update: Replacement unit has arrived and not only was the unit not DOA this time, it appears at this point (just running through my first bowl [with flowers, both glass and organic] after an initial empty cycle) everything seems good. Initial results are positive overall. Not producing huge clouds with first bow, but definitely getting visible vapour and will likely improve as method is perfected. Got about 3 minute flecks of herb through the mouthpiece, but nothing really at all. Besides that, at this point anyway, I am quite happy with the Ascent and the final results.

I wish DV would take a hint and put holes in the oil jars and just use that for a spacer. Some of us aren't quite as talented as others working drilling holes in fragile glass using a dremel.

Hey guys I've been lurking these boards for a while enjoying everyone's input, I've never had a reason to start an account... Until today!

I finally caved and ordered an Ascent, I've had it for a few days and here are some of my impressions. I don't have any offgassing or any other problems that people have listed and I'm happy to say the unit works %100 as described. I pack about .3 - .5 every session and I can usually get 4 - 5 really nice hits. The ABV is perfectly uniform but I noticed if I take as many hits as I can and stir it I can get another nice fat one at the end. I'm new at vaping and the first few times I topped out my temp at 390F and was wondering why it I wasn't getting the most out of my packing. Then I started vaping at around 400F and ending at 420F, this yields much better results with vapor density but obviously is a little more harsh on the lungs but this is what seems to work well for me.

Overall I'm SUPER stoked on using this thing and think Davinci has delivered big time despite a few faulty units.

I’ve read through MOST of the 158 pages on this thread

:clap::clap::clap:

Now... you do realize there are two other Ascent threads, with maybe about 400 pages total, right? Enjoy your weekend!
:) :p

[I kid here about reading all ~400 pages. I congratulate anyone that takes the time to read even a large part of a thread before posting. :) ]

Why isn’t that cloud making its way to me when I’m inhaling??

Uh, how do you know it *ISN'T*?

Isn't the purpose to bring stuff inside of you and KEEP IT THERE?
IMHO, using how much one expels out of one a a gauge is mis-placed, if not wasteful. Don't you want as much stuff to condense and stay in you? But. try taking the unit and blowing on the other end, and see what comes out the straw. I've done this many times and am quite satisfied with what I have seen. :)

2) The bottom half of the device gets HOT.

Well... it gets quite warm. Mine initially feels hot, but then I hold it for a sec or two and realize it isn't as hot as I thought, and I rather like the warm comfort of that in my palm. (DISCLAIMER: I am weird.) But I don't think this is necessarily an indication of anything wrong. (I can't actually test yours to touch, but am guessing it is like mine.)

Again, this is based on maybe 2-4 small bowls over a few day period....This doesn’t seem like a very efficient use of greens.

Since you are a person that actually bothered to read the thread, I'm sure you saw the exchange with @lwien, myself, and his "micro-loads". I did quite a few tests of 0.05g and 0.025g with quite positive results. It took a little bit of testing for the right technique. Hang in there, play with it, and have fun with the discovery.
:):science:

2) purchase some glass flowers.

I can't see the stem in the first one, but I presume it has one. I think that helps a lot. The second one is close to what I bought. The third looks like what another FC'er has been using, but make sure you know what they are made of and/or any glazing that might be on there. You don't want to be inhaling anything other than what boils off of your (non-glass) flower.
;)

Lastly…I ended up with 2 of these metal oil cans (http://www.davincivaporizer.com/the-oil-can/). Is there any usage for these?

Yup. In the original DaVinci.

Your spot on

*You're

Sorry. I have a sickness. I can't help myself.

Meh....based on this review, still makes me hesitant to get one.

Uh, rather than depend on some reviewer, who for the most part are focused on cycling through as many vapes as possible to get as many reviews out there quickly so as to get enough social media juice (NOT nec saying that about this reviewer as he seemed to take more time than most, but the point still stands), why do you choose to ignore all of the hard work done by all of the people here over the course of many months?

There is a *LOT* of really good info from people here that have spent, not a few days or a week, but 3-4 months since the release (or since prior) testing this device.

Finally got a diamond tipped dremel bit.

Taste is better on the ascent, but on the stealth factor pax wins.

Thank you for your report! Good info for those that want to repeat what you have done!

In terms of the comparison: A) You seriously under-state the taste difference. :) (I'll allow for some of us are MUCH more sensitive to taste than others.) and B) I've used all of my Ascents in all kinds of public places. I've never had an issue. I brazenly pull out the Ascent and use it. No questions. If you look, however, like you are trying to hide something, THAT will draw attention. :)

Hey guys I've been lurking these boards for a while enjoying everyone's input,

Yea! Someone else reading the thread before posting!:clap::clap:

In terms of temp, keep in mind you are doing different extractions at different temps. Depending on what you are after, you can get quite well medicated with ZERO vapor. You might be leaving "other stuff" in the flower, but you can. (Experiment: Try vaping EXCLUSIVELY at lower temps for a night. Don't worry: Just dump the ABV for use another day to extract stuff at higher temps later.)

I personally don't go above about 392°F (Benzene) as I really enjoy the taste component and can't stand the burnt popcorn. I'm not saying that's right, as there are as many different ways and as many different results as there are users.

Jus' saying there isn't one solution, but *MANY*.

Cheers all!

I got mine a few days ago and am pretty impressed so far, although the battery life is nowhere near as good as they claim (however that may improve after a few full charges), and I find it a pain in the arse to fill. I have a jarz pot I fill with ground herb and that's perfect for filling my pax but not the ascent. Have any of you found some sensible way of doing it and not getting weed everywhere? Also, and I totally expect some rinsing for asking such a stupid question, but where do I put a screen? It doesn't mention them in the instruction manual at all!

holy crap, big warning everybody !!

I was cleaning my ascent with iso today (the stealth) and when I was finished I noticed that I had
a bit of iso (97%) on my hand and it touched the ascent.
I don't know if it was exposed for a long time or just a short time but this was the result :

and I'm fucking heartbroken !! I treat my vaporizers (and all my electronic gadgets) with so much care and love and just a little bit of iso makes my Ascent acting all wrinkly old fart on me !

*edit* I have the same result on the back, should I rub the whole ascent with iso and create a new look nobody else has?

it was 97% iso, but I don't encourage anybody to try it with a lower grade iso ;-)
I only use herbs but I like to clean the bowl on a regular basis because when it starts to
stain it's hard to get rid of those stains

Thanks for the info Belgian Vapor . I like to keep all my gear clean and well maintained with ISO so we're all forewarned to be careful.
I wouldn't consider this to be a warranty issue as ISO probably will react to a lot of different substances,
I wonder if Davinci is able to do minor repairs or troubleshooting in their home office in Vegas ?
Even if you could buy the new panel and install it yourself might be good.

I want this over a pax, but is it better? Im only gunna be using for flowers, i would get a solo but its gotta be comfortable in my pocket for riding. So if someone could rate this 1-10 on vapor quality and battery. That would be great
