@gangababa, you also take out the screens of the CU halves, make both hollow parts face each other and thus use that empty space to fill a bit more balls.
If not for more balls, it will allow you to shorten the distance between those 2 halves so the whole CU can be a bit further away from your lips (keeping the same bowl size en cooling you have now).
The only "downside" is that you'll need a mesh screen just before the CU (otherwise herbs can go throu the holes of the metal cylinder of the CU ):2c:

I don't think so. You may be able to use the deeper Arizer ones if you file/sand the rim though. But if your bowl is deeper than it's wide you'll probably get uneven extraction and will need to stir.

Here are the cooling stems i "created". The shortened Grav Upline Taster with half a CU filled with 4mm SS balls is probably the best short cooling stem on the market 😅 So confortable and it cools the vapor so well.
I broke a short stem but it lasted enough length to cut it cleanly and use it with the Ditanium mouthpiece and thus have one of the shortest 14mm WPA. 👌🤘
?? The shortened Grav Upline Taster - Did you cut the bowl end and pinch point off to fit the TM CU and balls? How do you cut it?

Hey guys! New dude here. I'm wondering - are there any rimmed basket screens for the 3d Cooling stem that are deeper than the ones the cooling stem comes with? I can barely fit any herb in that one. I've switched it out with a regular coned screen, but it always moves around a bit in there and it's not ideal. I've found some on eBay, but they just seem to be the regular size.
The picture shows an attempt I made to use a CU half in the long cooling stem. The CU fits and stays in place. However, one needs a way to remove it. Th CU bolt is not long enough to use as a tool when the CU is inserted as designed. The CU is pictured backward, which might work to back-up a dome screen.
look at the picture from @Momor to see screens backed by CU halves. Stems are fun.

Yes, cut right above the pinch point. But i didn't do it myself. I found a glassblower in my city and asked him if he could cut my stems clean and he nicely accepted.

Is your ditanium mouthpiece loose?
Mine is, but thinking I just need to find thicker o-rings and that should fix it up🤞

I am using 6 mm balls, or just dosing capsules without covers (not pictured).

Only one CU half is needed if you use a GRAV OctoTaster, so buy two. Use the glass screen end
as the mouthpiece end.
One could use only the CU halves with screens and open space between.
It is a bit too hot.

From my previous Arizer Solo days, I use bottle blanks and alcohol to soak stems and parts.
They need to stand upright to soak most of the length of a long cooling stem.
The stem plugs make the finish rinsing easy.

Mmmm, guess I'll have to try this solution and compare its flavour to the dosing capsules with the short all glass spike stem. If it indeed gives good flavour it might allow for a shorter stem.

Off to buy some balls...

I wonder if someone with a vigreux stem could post a close up picture or two? I'm trying to figure out exactly how the spikes are different other than being angled.

Thanks

That is the difference, they are well done spikes, rotated groupings of three, good form and length, all pointing downwards toward the direction of the heat is all really

Groups of three? Ok, I thought it was four... Rotated? So you mean each row is offset so that the spikes go into the gaps of the previous row? Sensible... How long are the spikes?

Sorry a close up picture or two would be really helpful for me if it's not too much trouble? Honestly thank you very much.

Yeah I don't think there's room for four, GVB does for sometimes but they are simple smaller straight spikes... The way these ones are longer and go deeper at an angle there is not room for a fourth... Yes they rotate for minimal gaps, but it varies depending on each stem being handmade... I don't know how to answer the question of how long though? They block the path really well is all that matters! They are just really well made cooling spikes stems... Sorry I can't deal with taking and posting a photo right now, but I have in the past, and I'm sure there are other photos, you've been searching? Instagram??

I don't have the ability to take a picture that I think would really help you. My phone camera is only okay. Probably Phineas's Instagram has the best photos. There are some interesting diagrams of Vigreux Columns (and other fractional distillation columns) here:

Nice NIPPLES!
:)

Well, because you said it, I have to reply, for anyone who is not aware, that they are called dimples, or cooling spikes, or simply indents aka vigreux (glass nipples would actually refer to a mouthpiece, whenever you see these referred to as nipples, it is actually a mistake, uninformed people keep it going)
:p:disgust::rolleyes::tup:

Yeah and they vary, between all my TM and RBT ones, and I have 18 mm female ones that are larger so you can see more detail:

Is there a good reason not to make the dimples this dense or is it just because it is more work (thus more expensive?)

I guess what I'm asking is if it affects the flavour more (but being glass my guess is not much, if at all) or the draw (again, guessing not too much). Does it help cooling noticeable more than a stem with less dense dimples? Or the only reason to do it less dense is less work, less craftsmanship and therefore less price?

If by dense, you mean the pattern? Then yes, it is better cooling, more of an obstruction to break up the flow of the vapor, like having right angle bends in a J hook which I find cools even better actually (and then there are cooling pearls as another alternative) so yes more dense clustered spikes offers more cooling although of course that means more surface for vapor to condense onto... This could potentially affect the flavor, but it also filters out all the particles, so you can have a more comfortable larger hit, so I sort of feel like any trade-off loss is negligible?

You sir, are the definition of gentleman. Thank you very much my friend 👍
No problem 😊.

The photos @Shit Snacks posted are the more common (I think), symmetrical layout. My Tinymight WPA is more crammed together but it works really well, especially with the female adapter like shit Snacks posted. Mine is clear though. That blue is incredible!

Indeed. Not sure I’ve seen that spike/dimple pattern before though I’m not the most experienced glass person. I’ve got lots of folks herein to thank for educating me (and others) on the virtues of glass. It’s been a terrific thread since the beginning and great community overall. Weekend regards to all. And the obligatory and superlative Tinymight reference: it’s still my favorites vape. I love my TM! Native too with a hollow cooling unit sans extra screen. I’ve been back to the mostly native setup, again :). I’ve bought and used 3rd party stems and love them but found going back to native really makes this a very portable vape for my needs. What can I say? I like simple and the TM is very simple to use and clean. It’s an amazing vape with flexibility for all. :peace:

Oh I'm sure you have, I posted my TM stems from him here before as have others, you may not have looked closely though...? Anyway yeah I bought out his supply of the light blue and the purple glass for these lol
