Does the 8 count as an on demand vape? What is the warmup time? Very little info on the site.

Cool, how evenly does it cook? Is it convection-leaning?
Little bit more convection bias for sure, compared to the 7.

While I do think it roasts pretty even, I gotta say if I had to complain about something it’s that I often get a hotspot right on the very topmost layer and it looks like it could be vaped more but when I dump the cap the abv is all an even medium/darkish brown. I am finding ease in 1-hit extraction through a water piece so in that respect I’d definitely say it cooks evenly.

I’ve come to learn with most vapes once the vapour runs out and she tastes toasted, that’s probably all she’s got, regardless of how the abv might look. I have tested by throwing the abv into the anvil but the results were nill, and pretty much just tasted like charr.

I think this hotspot thing is mostly because of the lid design, with the 3 way air grooves.

It's a tempting little product as I'm starting to feel like I'm never going to receive a Nomad/Toad, and I'd love a more portable Tafee with a replaceable battery - which seems unrealistic given their recent history. The ceramic capsule is just my cup of tea, if ya know what I mean.

One thing I’m noticing that I’d love to hear about from other users of the 8

What happens to your draw restriction when you cover all 4 intake holes? For me there’s absolutely no change in the draw, like the holes aren’t even allowing air through them to begin with.

I’ve taken everything apart and can clearly see a direct path for the air to flow through the holes and into the chamber and it’s not blocked. Just interesting that blocking them from the outside doesn’t make any difference. Leads me to believe that the vast majority of the air comes through where the mouthpiece meets the ceramic chamber just under the bowl. Possibly a bit of air leakage from the contact leads which means some cold air would flow over electronics like it did in the 7. (Not a big deal for me) I’m not 100% on that last part, just an observation after taking a good look at it now that I have it in front of me.
Got it yesterday! Yeah for me it's the same. The airflow is still there when covering all holes and I also think the the air comes from the mouthpiece part, because there is space between the ceramic and wood where the air can flow up to the bowl inlet. I don't see any space to the electronics

How is the battery power for firewood 8 owners? Does the power and perdormance drops with lower level of battery?
I think it's dependend on the batterys used, some drop very fast in power and others stay nearly constant.

I recharge when I get to two buzzes and haven't noticed any real noticeable drop off in power. There might be a marginal increase in time til.it comes up to power, but I haven't timed it and it hits just the same.

www.monthsbehind.com and all, but just wanted to join the chorus in saying the FW7 is amazing! I've done two bowls at stock settings, I believe--the first preset is 340, second is 380, and the last is 420. I've mostly been using the first two presets, and the FW has performed admirably! I was kind of surprised how much vapor I got at 340--I guess that is the conduction part of the equation. With other vapes when I am around 340 its a lot of flavor, but not much visible vapor.

Doesn't hurt that its a gorgeous device, too--really love how small and well put together the whole thing is. I need to spend more time with it before having detailed thoughts, but so far its been a joy to use. So far I just have two small niggles: one, I can see the vibration feedback not being for everyone. It works fine for me once you understand it, and I think the Firewood looks much better without any kind of screen. The second is that I wish there was something that made it more obvious when I was going to pull the stem out--I can sort of feel that I'm pulling through the o-ring below the oven, but something to make pulling it out all the way a little more of a deliberate act would improve the ux a tiny bit. Still, those are tiny concerns and mostly I've just been extremely impressed with it so far! I need to put the WPA to use when I can get a little more slammed!

Yeah man I actually have a lot of thick enough vapor experience with 340, but especially for FW7 and that conduction it was best to lower it... I settled in at 320 and 310 in my two FW7s' lowest settings I think? With 30° steps for the next two settings

At least on my TP80, 340 is a pretty whispy couple of hits for me, but who knows if my 340 === your vapes’ 340. It’s a phenomenal place to enjoy terps, though!

I’ll have to try the fw a bit lower. I’ve still got a lot of experimenting to do. It’s really floored me with how wonderful it is! I was always a little put off by the oven—I really like how easy to clean the glass stem based ovens (tetra or tinymight) are to clean. I guess we’ll see when I get to the point of needing to do a deep clean, but so far just blowing out the remains and doing some empty pulls to let the heat handle cleaning seems to be working well.

Haha yeah to be clear the Tetra isn't really one of them but many others with a variety of styles, I remember when my eyes opened to the magic of 340 and was thrilled to see it as the starting temp for the FW7, even if I said it to be my middle setting ultimately shockingly perhaps lol

Yeah unfortunately this is why I don't use my FW7s as much as I used to, the cleaning is a bit more involved and it's hard to get the same purity they once had for me... I think that is a big benefit of the FW8 beyond being used as capsules per se? Being able to clean fully, like those glass stem-based chamber pathway vapes, but also just the difference between glass and ceramic, there's something special about the ceramic here though to the overall vapor signature

@Shit Snacks i can totally see that re: the 7 not being as simple to clean and maybe the 8 being easier to clean (or even just say yolo and replace the capsules if they get dirty enough). I’m not really sure what the ceramic cleaning mo is yet, but I assume it’s not to soak it in iso 😅. I think I’ll do my best to blast the empty bowl with heat and then if necessary give it a wipe with some iso. It doesn’t beat the convenience and simplicity of glass, but it’s nice to have options.

The whole package is just really beautiful, too. I have to admit thanks to folks like Dan and Ralph I was pretty dismissive of walnut, but it’s really gorgeous in person. The conduction piece also seems like it might make it a little simpler and more approachable if I’m sharing with friends than most of my other vapes, which are mostly full convection. I find that friends who mostly smoke don’t understand that a little sip from a full convection unit doesn’t amount to any vapor, but their frame of reference is a joint so it seems like a reasonable amount to inhale. At 380 the fw is producing from the word go, so to speak 🙂.

Hey guys. I've been considering adding a FW8 to my vape collection but still have some questions.

How do you pull the capsule out?

How do you empty the capsule once you have it out? (While hot)

How do you clean the capsules?

How many hits/bowls do you get from a battery pack?

Is packing a capsule on the go easy?

The best way is to use tweezers, those kind of reverse ceramic tweezers that have been shared here previously, that way you can grab the chamber even when it is hot from deep inside the oven, pull it out and hold it upside down so you can then use another tool to poke out the herbs... Would work when cold too, but the ceramic chamber could get stuck in the oven with herbal reclaim stickiness, also the herbs might not come out of the chamber as easily once they are cooled off... But you can clean with regular iso alcohol soaks n scrubs etc

As already mentioned you can use ceramic tipped tweezers (can get a 3pack for like $10 bucks) or what I do when I’m at home or posted up at a spot on the trail is just tap the bowl out as soon as I’m done with it into a little cardboard dish I have. I also tap it out into my palm after letting it cool down for a few moments if I happen to be without my little dish.

Sometimes I play a little hot potato with the cap and tap it out really quick but if you wait about 30 seconds after you knock it out of the device it’s should be cool enough you can tap it no problem. More often than not the force of the cap falling into the dish form the device is enough to dislodge most of the abv.

Little iso dip n’ scrub + a rinse and the capsules, Mouthpiece, and ceramic connector piece are good as new in about 5-10 minutes or less. Upkeep is fairly regular but not by any means difficult or cumbersome, at least with what’s been working for me.

I’d say the battery is exactly on par with how the 7 performs, if you’re at all familiar. So basically about 4-5 bowls if it’s just straight flower, but if you’re like me and like to pack a fat glob of FSE in the middle of each capsule it’s more like 3 long lasting bowls per battery… maaaybe 3.5 bowls.

I wouldn’t say packing a cap is difficult, but I also wouldn’t say it’s discreet or overly quick. You kinda gotta be sitting and have room to place things on your lap for a brief moment.

Hope that was helpful mate!

Oh! PS. I ordered a Firewood 7 stem + Walnut mouthpiece from High Artisan and it fits the 8 like a dream. Definitely a marked improvement in the airflow and mouthfeel. Plus it’s really nice to have the matching species of mp.

Might have to check out High Artisan’s FW7 stems. I don’t know what’s available for after market at all. I was figuring I’d splurge on an ogb j hook and call it a day for most of my vapes 🙂.

What did/do you guys do to clean the 7 oven? Do I more or less have it with a blast of heat and wiping with an iso soaked q tip here and there?

High Artisan and Good Vibes Boro are my two favourite glass stem makers for the FW7/8.

Personally I used a bit of acetone on a cotton swab while the chamber was still warm, and gave it a quick scrubbing. Seemed to work really well.

That sounds super annoying TBH! I know we should avoid letting our bowls cool down and re-caramelize with material inside, but let's face it, it happens regularly when using on-demand devices on the go.

When I go outside with colleagues that want to smoke their cig during a short pause for instance, I don't have enough time to fully consume one bowl in my Impcognito. So in the worst case I leave it inside the stem as is to finish it later on.

Here you say I would have to always bring tweezers with me and do some good dexterity gymnastic while standing outside to prevent having the stuff being stuck in the device? And then I'd have to find a way to store the bowl unfinished left-overs without spilling them on the floor while still trying to not burn myself? (currently with the Impcognito even when hot I can just use a poker tool to empty the bowl in the palm of my hand, then I re-suck it inside as I would when I "flip" it mid-session. When I do that it tends to clog the screen less when it cools down)

Yeah, I was hoping mine would be good for on the go like the fw7 with a doob tube is, but it's really not. It's basically an at home unit now. I love the extraction and all that jazz, but it's just a pain in the arse to use.

Honestly you’re thinking about this maybe a little too hard here, haha.

If you don’t finish a capsule, there’s absolutely no problem with letting it cool down so you can finish it later. In my experience I’m getting fuller and more flavourful hits from the 8 compared to the 7s excellent heater, so standing outside for a brief moment for quick rips is where it’s suited. If you let your device get dirty it can be a little bit of a pain to take a capsule out cold, but that’s quickly fixed with one heatup cycle. Getting cold herb out of the capsule isn’t hard and is exactly like taking cold abv out of any other device.

Swapping a capsule is definitely easier and quicker then it seems, and is all the more fast and easy with tweezers (I don’t know any vape where I don’t carry some sort of tool with at all times anyways) but still isn’t as fast as say, loading up my Toad on the go.

Easywider

Simple is the way
Could you use a toothpick or small tool to hold the capsule in place and blow through the stem to clear the material? Then dump the capsule after it cools a bit. I just ordered an 8 yesterday specifically for on-the-go use because of the capsules. Now after getting caught up in the thread I feel like maybe I may have made a mistake. I was hoping the experience would be more like the FW4, it was my favorite for on-the-go.

Hmm, I guess I don’t bring any tools along for any of my vapes. I straw suck to load my toad, p80, dynavaps, and so on. To eject a spent load I just blow it out when it’s finished.

Just providing a counterpoint to the tooling arguments. I’m sure a tweezers makes it simpler to manage, it just still feels like a bit of a miss if I need to buy various accessories to use my vape? It’s not the end of the world, I am sure.
