May well have happened but I am also having trouble seeing how a part so far from the heater could possibly melt. We will see ...
Agree, there would have to be a serious malfunction for that happen. I've enjoyed using it on the highest setting for two weeks without any issues

Some context: YLL discussed this incident in the 420VZ discord, he spoke with the customer and it was suspected to have happened due to a faulty temp sensor in the unit. Not much else was said, but were it not a fairly isolated incident, I'd think we'd have seen more instances of it by now.

Yeah, figures that YLL would prefer 420VZ over FC at this point.

Still a bit surprised that something so far from the heater would have melted, but I could see how a faulty sensor might explain it. I'd also think you'd notice smell from combusted flower well before plastic reaches its melting point.

Thankfully seems to be only an isolated case at the moment. *crossing fingers*

Generally ISO (99%) only gets used on metal and glass. For plastic/rubber/silicon parts I use unscented dish soap and hellishly hot water with q-tips/ear buds to clean and the same water to rinse. A short dip in undiluted white vinegar and a final hot water wash and then drip dry.

To be honest, hellishly hot water cleans a lot better than a lot of people think. If you haven't developed heat-proof hands wear gloves 😎
I do this. My boiler is set at 60 degrees C and I just put all my stuff in a sieve and run the water over it. Cleans up nicely.

So just read thru angus thread in 420 vape zone discord this is what I’ve gathered:

1. Admittance the beta testing team was not qualified to beta test a new vape and let many things slip by them. (Like nobody submerged the cooling unit in alcohol and followed the directions the manufacturer gave?)

2. Cooling unit has ”softening” point of around 220 degrees Celsius. Maker seems fine with this given obvious red flags

3. Scott pulled these off the shelf until he can get a sufficient answer and solution for what’s going on

4. Anyone who purchased this vape unknowingly became a part of their actual beta phase

5. Scott has put his customers safety over his pockets and I fully commend him for that and why I shop at the home of the heavies

The cooling unit there can definetly exceed 200 °F easily, and with it discoloring from isopropyl, I really wonder what type of plastic they used for the cooling unit, not good. Acrylic, ABS, and PETG cannot be exposed to iso, but their melting points range from 300-500 °F.

"PPSU is often an excellent choice for components that are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive media because it has exceptional chemical resistance."

Those guys have a obvious type o . It would have been better than peek ifthose specs were true,it is probably Fahrenheit. It is 180 C .Check other sources. I doubt there is any plastic that can withstand that temp.
PPSU plastics offer: (best case)

  • High operating temperature (180°C)
  • Good chemical compatibility
  • Excellent resistance to hydrolysis (suitable for repetitive steam sterilisation)
  • High rigidity over a wide range of temperatures
  • Very high impact strength
  • High dimensional stability
  • Very good resistance against high energy radiation (gamma and X-rays)
  • Good electrical insulating properties
  • Favourable dielectric characteristics
""We found significant variations of PPSU materials from different producers with regard to polymer and oligomer chain end groups (methoxylation, chlorination), while total oligomer content below 1000 Da was similar (mean about 0.48%). BPS was not detected above 0.3 mg/kg polymer in any PPSU sample. Residual DHBP content ranged between 1.7 and 15.5 mg/kg polymer. The most common oligomer in all PPSU samples was the cyclic tetramer (about 1200 mg/kg polymer), which is the only cyclic compound below 1000 Da. Residual solvent, sulfolane, was determined to a maximum of 1300 mg/kg polymer.""
_------------------------------------
Bottom line is fuck plastics in vapes. Not only they contribute to environmental polution ,but there are very few that can withstand corrosive terpene vapors combined with high temps, also they have added coloring no one seems to take in account. This starts to smell of that Dotleaf hype trainwreck .
Cleaning just with hot water,is not something i consider cleaning.
I wonder if it will be more expensive in EU since it will have to offer minimum of two year warranty.

Sound. I'm considering getting one and would mostly use it through water. Been put off a little with recent revelations so waiting to hear something more solid like how the person was using it etc.

Yeah you can also connect a 14 mm joint into the top o-ring, and use that as a WPA instead, although the air flow is a bit more restricted... The pathway is even purer (although honestly mine still does not taste great seemingly inside the unit) and it rips

Oh I am curious, any pictures of the 14mm? Do you mean just leave the cooling unit off and tje 14mm joint fits directly onto the oring? I take it you have to hold it there?

And still not tasting good? That's not great to hear. Most folk seem to have a different experience..

Yes it fits into the chamber o-ring tightly, you do not have to hold it there, what you do need is a screen inside the end of the 14 mm though... I posted photos here if you skim backwards or search for my posts

Yep, but I'm not alone apparently either, we've discussed that as well

I am sure I just missed it, but I can't find this on the discord. (Found it, main portable thread.🤦‍♂️) And it looks like it is still available on the site?

Honestly not trying to stir shit but I just want to understand where we are with this. Was the whole problem bogus?

In the absence of any real evidence, ongoing dialogue or other photos to substantiate the claim, I think it's a fair bet that something is wrong with this picture. And it's not the Angus. BTW, for every person who doesn't like the flavour of the Angus vapour, there's a LOT more who do. I've been getting nothing but raves from my peeps. To each their own, I guess.

Feels off topic in a reply to my question. However you brought it up: I appreciate the feedback but since you are actually selling the device I think I trust a buyer's review of the flavor more.

My unit produces bright terpy hits. There is a bit of a halogen signature to it that is difficult to describe but is in no way unpleasant. For me the flavour is right up there with other high end portables.

Yes Mike is done with FC. I have provided the mods some of his feedback as to why.

I also agree with your heater assessment. It's pretty far away with a whole lot of metal in between. I can't imagine how it would have had to heat up to melt it like that. And what did the unit and chamber of the bowl look like. Why no pictures of that? Seems a bit suspicious to me.

Someone on Reddit chimed in on a post this morning and said it was their unit. This person had an account with zero post history but started last year. I sent them 25 questions in PM as I was concerned and wanted to know more details. I did receive one response. It really did not answer anything that I asked. And nothing on follow up.

It will be nice to see if Mike will actually ever see this unit back. The refund comment does not make any sense either. We as retailers know how to take care of our customers and I know that Mike is not going to deny anybody especially under circumstances like that. So it's got my suspicion up for sure.
