Received and pieced together the Highlighter kit yesterday.

When going to test it out, I noticed the package was missing the 14/18mm Male WPA I ordered with the kit. So today, I end up using the Highlighter with a dimpled 18mm stem that's the same length as the wand tool that comes with the Highlighter kit.

Is it common to use a bowl/stem that long? It definitely works but was wanting another opinion. I could probably find a proper adapter at a local glass shop. It's inconvenient that the piece is missing from my order, but it didn't cost a whole lot so it's not bothering me too much. From what I've tried so far, though....Highlighter was producing clouds!
Shoot me a DM wit your order#, it's possible I made a mistake. If so, let me make it right. Glad the heater is working well!

I’ve used a lot of different WPA and stems with the highlighter.

It’s a native 19/22 fitting so that male fits it best although a 19/19 RBT stem works well too. You can use a 19/26 with it too.

As far as the length of the other side that’s up to you. I’ve used it with a cooling stem, wood stems, jhooks and a variety of bongs.

Since you can dial in the heat I sometimes run 4.7 sipping with a short stem and sometimes 5.5 through water.
Alright, cool. I kind of figured as long as it works, then I'm good to go lol. I appreciate you adding in the information about the different fitting stems!

Will do. Also appreciate you reaching out quickly!

No prob!

And yes, pretty much any male 18 mm male joint will work. You can even put a screen further down in any 18mm for a jointpack bowl. I tend to stick to baskets, they crush easier and don't need stirring. More flavor and less rigmarole :)

I had my first real session with the HighLighter last night.

This thing freakin' hits hard! I've never used a log style device before. I'm late to the train so please excuse my excitedness lol. But seriously, for the price- I can't think of anything else that will hit like this. Crazy how you can murder a bowl, load up another and then keep going. It's endless rips, man. But yeah, I've only owned portable devices so far, so the HighLighter is giving me a nice first impression on plug-in devices.

Soooo I built one of these bad boys a month or so ago going off the spreadsheet parts list (kits were OOS at the time), but could not get more than a pleasant flavor hit. After futzing around on and off the past week, I finally figured it out: the link for bulbs on the build sheet went to 10W rather than 50W bulbs. DOH! So now I've got the proper bulb and will rebuild and retry. Should be fun!

Took a while BUT finally rejiggered everything with the proper bulb (to be clear, I don't think that was a vendor issue, I suspect Amazon) and fired it up last night through a J-hook. DAMN. Hit like a ton of bricks with a 5-minute warmup, 8 volts. Could probably go lower too ... this will be FUN! So easy to use, too.

I built my own unit 5 months ago. Could’t find a black glass, so thin layer of ss inside the tube and the peppermill mod. I like to use it after 10 minutes, 5,39-5,28V - 17,8W. One hit.
I like to think at the HLT as the border of my vaping experience.

I just wanna thank you SHDC! Amazing job!

P.S. smartband vibrating after 10 minutes and smart plug automatically shutting down the converter after 15 minutes are so useful 😊

Does anyone have one of these setup to use really small bowl like a log? I like the idea of being able to fix this thing myself vs another log but I like the small direct draw stems for log vapes. I see the hamster log video above he is using a dyna stem but is that dropping down into the 14mm until it hits the wood body to seal?

You can put silicone around a log stem to connect it to the 18 mm female, but I think it would be better to just load less in the 18 mm male bowl personally

I can't help but remember in the past I liked how with the narrow bowls in the log stems you get nicer extraction with the small amount of herb vs say an 18mm wand. But I may not be accounting for how the giant mass of all those balls changes things. Can you get away with not stirring with the 18mm?

Absolutely, as I said, load a shallow bowl, same amount you would in a stem, you can kill it in one hit without stirring easily...

Yep, glass tube fits in the 18mm = microdose?

Today I'm playing around with controlling the Highlighter with a PID. It simply turns it on and off to maintain the temperature... not the best for bulb life, but it does seem to work. My aim is to have it crank a bit harder when in use to eliminate the refractory period between back-to-back baskets. I'll let y'all know how it goes...

VapeXhale EVO had a similar function, I like the concept. How are you running the PID? An Arduino?

Has anybody built a highlighter using a heater core with an 18mm male joint rather than female? I'm thinking it'd make it possible to use with an injector bowl. I was planning to give it a go but have not been able to find a piece of glass with a male joint that has a large enough ID to fit the components in.

I bought a small collection of 18mm male and female joints from the site I think Red uses with the same idea. The id of the male joint's tubing is too tight for the internal electronics without a slimmer bulb, base and retaining screen. I'm doing year end house cleaning, if I can find the box of glass and some calipers I'll get some measurements.

Several people have shared theirs in the vaporents subreddit over this year. If you look at the CC Halo you could probably draw some inspiration too.

Why not just leave your male to male adapter in the female of the HL, you have a little empty path between heater and your load, but if you turn the power up you should be fine to extract well that way? Alternatively you could get some custom glass made, cut off the female and instead have a male attached (like good vibes could do this)

I tried that and if you crank the power up it does work. But with a clip and the male-to-male it no longer fits in my pepper grinder heat shield, and it just looks hinky.

Getting something custom made is a good idea, but I suspect it would cost more than I want to pay for what is essentially a "lets see if I can get this to work" project that I'm just doing for fun.

Hmm I've searched reddit a bit previously but didn't really find anything, but maybe I just need to be a bit more thorough. And I'll check out the Halo. Thanks.

I think you'd be surprised how inexpensive it can be, GVB can connect the two pieces wherever, I sent him a bunch of broken glass that he salvaged for me, some of it literally was cutting broken glass and then connecting new joint in its place, very reasonably priced... He is busy though is all so you just might have to wait patiently
