RE: airflow.

The booster stem I bought has cuts in the bottom that allow more airflow.

But I have to agree with the people who are saying to pay attention to how you pack it if you want more airflow.

I actually found that hand broken up flower with it's chunkier bits seems to allow more flow than if I pack in ground up flower.

Edit: I also discovered that the VapCap and Solo are great bed fellows. The Vapcap is the perfect size for tamping down the material in a Solo and for scooping my CBD isolate powder and flower for layering in the Solo.

Are the high efficiency stems with the screens built in, as opposed to the four holes, still available?
Those solved the air flow restriction issue for many users.

Hi! I'm new to vaping and looking for a device to buy. I'm able to acquire a second hand Arizer Solo 1 for around 45 dollars. It's around 5 years old and has been used heavily for 3 years, but the battery has just been replaced and it's still working well. Only issue is the pipe, which was a bt loose but he fixed that himself by inserting a small ring in the holder. For me, around 45 dollars is the amount I'm able to pay for a vaporizer - I'm not a heavy user, so it could be a bargain for a really good device. However, I'm worried that it won't last long. Any advice on the durability of the device? Is it likely to keep on working for some time if I use it for 4-5 hits per week? Or should I get a new, cheaper model for the money rather than the Solo. I understand it might be a tricky question, but any help is appreciated. Thanks! :)
Also, he used tobacco in it - does that affect the device?

While there is an up-front cost, the Arizer Solo line is the best way to squeeze every bit of goodness out of your herb. If I only have 1 gram, and I need to stretch it, I reach for a Solo II.

I do not have a Solo first generation, but it is a good wager that it is very well built. If the battery was replaced, that is a large bit of maintenance already done. If the aroma tube is loose, there is likely a proper silicon ring available. There are lots of available parts; always try to use original. As for using tobacco, it isn't something that would worry me.

If you can get the unit for a price that works for you, it might be worth a gamble. The unit could work for months or years; it could die tomorrow? You need to make your decision, but it my estimation, it is a reasonable risk.

What I would recommend, is saving up for a new Solo II. This is a very solid unit. Another, currently very popular, XMax V3 Pro. Both are good units. What you anticipate seems to be very light use. Stretch the used Solo for as long as you can, search through the forums, and then plan your next acquisition.

Assuming there's 2 stems included I personally would buy it.
I was so impressed by the Solo that I also bought the Solo II and an EQ from Arizer.
I gave mine away to my Son (he in turn gave it to my Daughter once he acquired a EQ)

Also, he used tobacco in it - does that affect the device?
I can not imagine

Hi there,

If you are looking at an Arizer Solo you should really get one new. I looked around a bit and found one for under $70. Do you have the extra $25 beyond $45 to get one? If so go to Vapor.com and use the Black Friday sale code at checkout which takes 20% off and gets the price under $70. If this is too much money have you looked into Dynavaps yet? They have a Starter deal for $50. Either will serve you well. Trust me though, buy new! Learn from my mistakes!

Peace,

Thanks everyone for the help, it's useful to have different types of advice! I'll do some research on other vapes as well, there are suggestions I didn't know about. And it's good to know that if I go for the Solo that'll probably be a fine choice too

I own multiple Solos and some of them are older than 5 years. I've replaced the batteries myself on several of them and they came back to life stronger than when I bought them. I only had one that couldn't be revived. The internals got dirtied up and replacing the battery didn't work but I kept the new battery pack to use when the next Solo battery stops producing.

I tested the Solo II for a couple weeks and felt that the Solo had slightly better vapor production (If I remember correctly there was a very slight difference in how the stems fit the oven) and that the Solo II enhancements weren't enough for me to justify the increased cost when I can buy multiple Solos on sale for 1/3rd the price of the Solo II.

Whenever I'm asked to make a recommendation for a new vapist.....I suggest the Solo because its built like a tank, is the easiest of all my vapes to keep clean, has great taste and has excellent battery life.

Didn't see this posted anywhere but Arizer.com has a deal running right now for an Extreme Q + Solo/Solo charging dock bundle for 169.99 shipped. Didn't even charge me tax. Been out of the dry herb vaporizer scene for quite a while now and this was an easy way to jump back in with some quality devices. Was initially going to go for a Solo II or an Air II, but I've had an Air and an Argo and always found myself reaching for the OG Solo over both of them. The EQ is just a nice bonus - always wanted to try one and out of the probably hundred+ vaporizers I've owned and used over the years I've never even touched an EQ in person. Excited to try it out after looking at it online for the past ~10 years.

Their new XQ2 looks pretty cool too - didn't see a thread on that. Basically looks like a slightly fancier EQ but I don't know if it justifies a ~$90 USD increase over the original EQ. Seems extremely similar.

I'm in the US.....I couldn't find any Solo stock other than Arizer...they had a deal where you order the Solo (84.99) and get the standalone charger for free. All in it came to $99.99

aromatekstore.com has solos for $75 shipped and Air 1s for $69.99 shipped. I'm real real tempted to snag an air. Been ripping the new solo with some extremely good pot and it's incredible.
The Solo/Arizer line can't be beat.

For heavy use, the glass tubes are brilliant.

"O Solo Mio..."
"What a beautiful thing is a sunny day!
The air is serene after a storm,
The air is so fresh that it already feels like a celebration."

Sitting on the balcony in the shade of this bright, sunny, summer, January day in the southern hemisphere, watching the unseen shore beyond the horizon.
Sipping my Solo, simply 'simpatico' with my 76th New Year; accepting the too much light entering my no-longer cataract eye.
Sharing here with some that soon I shall have my first glass. Not that this 'native' is giving up hot and dry for cool and wet; not yet.
I wait for the goods to arrive from the northern hemisphere and hope Aduana does not confiscate the 14mm Arizer glass and the bubbler (FU link) as well.

My old Solo soldiers on. Stems come and go and are replaced by newly shipped straights.

@His_Highness Thanks, for some reason I could not resist this deal and impulse grabbed one. Nostalgia for one of my first vapes I guess. This will be a nice “beater vape” to have around for the rare occasion of seshing with non-vapers or to sip on with my girlfriend when she asks to partake (not super often). Hell, would probably make a good travel vape as well!

Couldn't agree more!

My brother had his for well over 7 years and it finally died which is what caused me to look for the best price for one. My brother has magic hands....if he touches an electronic device it's days are numbered. So his lasting for 7 years says a lot about the quality of the Solo.

Arizer and Planet of the Vapes didn't have any so I'm pretty stoked to find them at Puffitup. Especially for that price.

It's still one of my top 3 vapes. And its in my wife's top 2. With that position in our rotation and for that price we definitely needed to take advantage and get a backup .... or two :brow:

So I just got this today (PIU still has fast shipping even after selling out to Greenlane), and man, the nostalgia runs deep. Fired it up for a sesh and it really took me back a decade. Kinda cool to revisit one of my first vapes as I approach 10 years of full-time vaping. Just loaded up a stem (bent was always my fav) , popped it in, and enjoyed a slow temp-stepping session from 2 all the way up to 7. The flavor and vapor felt a lot more mild than what I'm used to, but the flavor was pleasant the whole way through and I was thoroughly baked once the bowl was finished. Definitely a little harsh at the highest temps, but you don't have to take long rips with this one. Better to just sip. The draw resistance was noticeable of course but manageable for me.

I honestly really enjoyed that session. I don't know how much I'll use it long-term (the nostalgia may wear off), but this will probably be the vape I pull out whenever my girlfriend wants to have a little weed. It's perfect for sharing and good for her since she has weak lungs and can't handle big hits or long draws.

The Solo endures. At $60, this is still a great option for a casual user. Built like a tank, good battery life, good taste, super simple to use, easy to clean, etc. No wonder this was a favorite when I was first starting out!

Got my order yesterday. I bought 2. We have 4.5 Solos now.

The two we're currently using, the two new ones and a third party battery pack I bought off Amazon after successfully replacing my Solo's battery many months ago with another battery pack. The second battery pack was bought to revive another, older Solo after the success I had with mine but..... the older Solo had issues with the circuit board being caked up with ABV dust and resin and couldn't be revived. Ready for the next battery replacement though.......

I bought 2 because because if they stop making the Solo we won't be buying the Solo 2 and my wife's Solo has been her go to daily driver for over 6 years .... even after getting her a XMAX V3 Pro several week's ago. She uses the Xmax V3 Pro as a back up for those times the Solo is charging or for a pocket book carry. Gotta love the Solo's battery life for a portable "couch" vape.

I switch up vape use kind of naturally and right now its all about the Tafee Bowle, Solo and EVO.
