@WelshBrok - kinda seems that way to me. The guy in that thread telling the OP to do it says he has his set to 665 and can clear a full bowl in 2 hits.

I run 660-670 depending, with the cap left on and a few pearls in the dish and my vrod can do that without the mod 🤷‍♂️

I'm still unsure of how the balls stay out of the diffuser holes too once they are inside the head

Purple heart and cocobolo handles courtesy of @iDRINKBLEACH

Love how "chunky" it makes the handles look/feel and I think the wood goes great with the ti. Highly recommended for anyone looking to upgrade their setup. It's crazy how much better the enail handle feels too vs the default rectangular beeswax one. Feels much sturdier and easier to on/off the bowl.

Awesome to finally have replacement carb cap handles as well. My original wood dried and broke away probably a year and a half ago. The fit is perfect and it feels so nice taking the cap on/off. Also much thicker and harder wood than whatever NV used, so I don't see this having issues anytime soon if I do leave it on the head. The heat also seems to bring out the purple color more which is pretty cool.

The last picture I'm experimenting with some tools I have lying around. That's a ti keyring dabber from the CH site shimmed into the handle. Pretty cool that I can get anything in there as long as it's not a bigger diameter.

Odd question: if I want to cap the showerhead for flower - just want to cover the diffuser holes & don't care if the cap sits down in the dish area - could I use either the ti import or domeless cap on CH?

Also, curiosity got the best of me and I ordered some 3mm rubies from vgoodiez for the b-rod mod. Tried it a couple times over the weekend and seems like a bust IMO. Those balls really settle in the holes and cut off airflow.

edit: @mixchu69 they've confirmed on discord there'll be a 7/10 sale

What's up guys, I'm thinking of taking the plunge on the Sapphire Dish but I have my reservations about it and hopefully I can get some quick answers from those of you who have and use them yourselves before these get sold out later today.

Since these come with a Thermal Shock warning, stating we need to heat up our metal before touching it to sapphire.. I think that kinda sucks.
Is this really necessary? I really don't want to have to do it. I've already retired my Blazer Big Shot Torch for BBQ use only and I'm going to be paranoid enough whenever handling the sapphire in the sink as it is LOL! :pI would much rather keep using the Titanium tool on the NV Carb cap or my Stainless steel Skilletools as I have been with the SIC dish. I remember I read somewhere that certain metals shouldn't be used with certain dab surfaces and I remember specifically reading about Stainless being bad.

Could someone go over what's safe and what's not with dabbing surfaces again? Are my Stainless steel skillet tools ok to use with my SIC Dish and Sapphire if I decide to get one? Please tell me you don't really have to heat up your tools.. or tell me this can be solved with a Boro or Quartz dabbing tool. It just seems to me that a quartz or boro dab tool touching the sapphire would be more appropriate? I dunno..

Seriously.. I'm thinking of jumping the gun on the $30 off this dish.. If I wake up with some answers from you Sapphire owners i'd like to hear and there are any left.. I'll pull the trigger!

Thanks!

Hi. I have the sapphire for my d cup. I wouldn't be without it as I think it makes a massive difference to the taste and ease of cleaning. For me, it's worth the money, especially with that discount.

Wrt touching with dab tools, I don't. Never have and don't need to. Generally just resting the tool against the edge will warm it sufficiently for my rosin to drop off. Occasionally I have had to blast with my little torch to get a persistent bit off, but this is very rarely.
There are also battery heated dab tools.

So I don't know what will happen if you touch the dish with a cold dab tool. Imo I suspect nothing will happen but as it is not necessary I haven't felt it is a risk.....

Good luck and I hope you find the sapphire as satisfying as I do...

On my DCup, 30mm sapphire dish, I normally drop in my shatter or wax directly from a small scoop shovel. But some types of dabs are so sticky, I use the tiny ball head type titanium dab tool from NewVape. I’ve touched the dish with this dabber to transfer the dab. Putting any large metal COLD tools in my dish, “might” be hazardous to the sapphire.

If you have an IH, even the cheap Chinese SKJ IH, they are designed to warm up metal tools in seconds, so that’s a possibility if one uses lots of metal tools.

I just used the sale as an opportunity to pick up the sapphire dish for the dcup too. I like to think given how many warnings I've seen and the anxiety I've had about buying one will lead me to take excellent care of it.

I think I'll just mop with dry q tips and only soak it in room temp water to avoid extreme temp fluctuations and it should be ok.

Yeah, DRY Qtips are fine, right after a dab.
I soak the sapphire dish in Simple Green Crystal, baked on junk, lifts off.
I use small amounts of Dark Crystal Clear, in the DCup titanium cup holder, with the PID on, warm.

Right on. I'm a big fan of PBW soak with sonication, but no way I'm adding any extra chance of destruction with the sound waves. PBW soak usually is enough to clean my bangers on its own if I'm patient. I try to cycle a couple so I don't notice.

I use PBW for my glass rigs, as well as SGC. While I have a quality ultrasonic cleaner, I don’t use it often, as the cavitation action can break glass joints, and with the cleaners, never needed to use it. The sapphire dish is so smooth, it just needs a soak in a tiny container. Never tried PBW on it, as the SGC does all the work for me.

Have you heard about the boom on Mizar 5?
I put my metal dab tool up against the side of my ruby insert to melt the dab off all the time with no ill effects, skillet tools are all I use for dabbers. I think the danger of thermal shock is really a thing when it comes to liquids or things that are colder then room temp. As long as your tools or material haven't been chillin in the fridge you should be fine.

Thanks for the input guys, but keep in mind, It's much easier to easily touch the dab and let it drip down the sides in a beautiful slow melt with the larger dish of the D cup and T bucket than it is with the dish on top of the v rod. Of course I always try not to touch the surface and just melt the wax and I'm usually successful most of the time but that moat in the 28mm Vrod dish is just too narrow sometimes.

I'm going to take the plunge now. Apparently that disclaimer gave me a little anxiety.

Hey thanks for the reply,

Yeah I bought a set of their Stainless Steels way back with my Evo set up and love them to death.. Honeybun, Glassy, ScoopDog and Flexy! I just had to make sure that they are safe to use not just with the Sapphire but also for the SIC dish. For the most part I just use the TI on the CH Universal carb cap, but for some messy sauces and budder I had to use my Scoop Dog scooper and the spatula of my Glassy and unfortunately it does need to touch the sides of the SIC for a few seconds just to make sure nothing falls out.

But of of course I always try to go for just a melt with no contact.

You should be totally safe with your sic and tools touching it, its one of the tougher dab materials. The biggest issue I've ever heard of with sic is it being brittle and prone to shattering on hard drops.
